Armour and Artillery components would most definitely feature considering the terrain and the proximity to neighboring nations. 1 brigade infantry sokoto and 1 battalion brinin kebbi are both infantry inclined so I expect both armour and artillery units to complement them.

ARMY COUNCIL APPROVES ACCELERATED PROMOTION AND COMMISSIONING OF MASTER WARRANT OFFICER GARBA ABDULLAHI TO THE RANK OF CAPTAIN

In recognition and reward for gallantry, unprecedented show of bravery, courage and selfless service, the Army Council has on Monday 16th October 2017, approved the granting of Executive Commission to 79NA/21553 Master Warrant Officer Garba Abdullahi of 159 Battalion, Nigerian Army, to the rank of Captain for gallantry. The accelerated promotion was due to observed outstanding qualities of military professionalism such as gallantry and dedication to service demonstrated by the Non–Commissioned Officer.

Garba Abdullahi's leadership qualities endeared him to his Commanding Officer who deemed it fit to assign him a higher responsibility as platoon commander of one of the arrow head sub-units of the Battalion, the role he played excellently to the admiration of both his superiors and subordinates alike. Under his able leadership, his platoon achieved great exploits of daring, bravery and courage for which the Battalion was reputed.

The 159 Battalion is of one the rugged and most experienced cohesive fighting unit that make up Operation LAFIYA DOLE. The Battalion covers five Local Government Areas in Yobe State and serves as the Brigade’s first line of defence in the northern front adjoining Niger Republic and Borno State.

The Battalion primarily occupies a blocking position from where it conducts Counter Terrorist and Counter Insurgency operations to defeat Boko Haram terrorists, deny them freedom of action and assist the civil authority in maintenance of law and order and restoration of socio-economic activities within its area of responsibility. Since their deployment into the theatre about two years ago, the unit has contributed immensely to the decimation of Boko Haram terrorists and also involved in humanitarian activities to the host communities. The elevated Garba has played a significant role in all the successful operations achieved by the unit.

The newly commissioned Garba Abdullahi has since been decorated with the badge of his new rank of Captain at the Battalion Headquarters located in Geidam, Yobe State by his Commanding Officer Lieutenant Colonel Owoicho Augustine Obochi, to the admiration of both officers and soldiers of the unit.

The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General TY Buratai has congratulated the newly commissioned officer.

NAF DEPLOYS AIR ASSETS, PERSONNEL TO JOS TO MAINTAIN PEACE

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has deployed some of its air assets and personnel to Jos, the Plateau State capital, to support Operation SAFE HAVEN to maintain peace and curtail senseless killings as well as possible spread of violence in some parts of the State. The deployment was ordered by the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS) Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, in compliance with the directive of the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Muhammadu Buhari, to ensure that an end is put to the current spate of violence and killings in the state. The deployment is also to ensure the prevention of reprisal attacks, which could escalate the conflict. The deployed NAF assets include the L-39ZA aircraft and the EC-135 helicopter, which are to provide necessary air cover to the surface forces participating in the Operation in the State. The L-39ZA aircraft operates from its base in Kano while the EC-135 helicopter operates from Jos.

It would be recalled that the NAF has always acted in aid of civil authority, whenever called upon to do so, in line with its statutory role. The NAF, apart from its presence in the North East to fight Boko Haram insurgents, has also deployed its air assets and personnel in recent times to Kafachan in Southern Kaduna and Takum in Taraba State to stop incessant communal clashes. The NAF remains focused on its primary responsibility of ensuring the security of the citizenry while continuing to count on their support and understanding.

NAF COMMISSIONS MACHINE TOOLS WORKSHOP, TO COMMENCE LOCAL FABRICATION OF AIRCRAFT PARTS

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) today commissioned the newly resuscitated Machine Tools Workshop at its Base in Makurdi, in line with ongoing efforts towards robust logistics support and maintenance culture to sustain platforms and equipment serviceability, one of the key drivers of the vision of the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar. According to the CAS, the import of this key driver "is to increase self-sufficiency, reduce dependence on foreign organizations for maintenance of military hardware and saving of foreign exchange for Nigeria. Machine tools enable the fabrication of some aircraft parts, thereby facilitating effective and efficient repairs of especially aircraft airframes. Accordingly, the newly commissioned Machine Tools Workshop would be invaluable to some of the processes through which the NAF sustains its equipment and platform serviceability.

Today's event, which took place at 131 Engineering Group, Makurdi, is one of the numerous benefits from the strategic partnerships between the NAF and several universities in Nigeria, as facilitated by the incumbent NAF leadership. Other benefits derived from the collaboration include the modification of the antiskid system of the Alpha Jet aircraft, construction of test benches, receipt of 2 patent rights and emergence of the NAF as the best overall research institution at the 2017 Nigeria Technology and Innovation Expo, among others. According to Air Marshal Abubakar, more than 6 research projects are currently ongoing in partnership with universities and research institutions in the country, which conforms to another key driver namely “strategic partnership with MDAs for enhanced Research and Development.

The Air Officer Commanding Tactical Air Command, Air Vice Marshal Mohammed Idris, expressed appreciation to the CAS for ensuring the reactivation of the machines in the Workshop, through collaboration with the University of Maiduguri, 25 years after they were abandoned. The machines were renovated in a record time of 4 weeks and at a much lower amount compared to the quotations received from different companies. The commissioning ceremony was also used to induct the first set of trainees to benefit from the newly introduced Machinist Course. The successful trainees would later operate the equipment in the new Workshop and similar workshops in the NAF.

PRESS RELEASE
NIGERIAN AIR FORCE NEUTRALIZES GATHERING OF BOKO HARAM TERRORISTS, SETS BOKO HARAM STRUCTURES ON FIRE

On 19 October 2017, the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) Component of Operation LAFIYA DOLE conducted an attack on a location in URGA area close to KONDUGA. Previous intelligence reports, gathered through Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) missions by NAF ISR platforms, had indicated the presence of a large number of Boko Haram Terrorists (BHTs) in DURWAWA settlement in the outskirt of URGA. Accordingly, one Alpha Jet aircraft was detailed to carry out air interdiction on the target. Overhead the location, the aircraft acquired and attacked the target twice with bombs. Subsequent Battle Damage Assessment revealed that the aerial attack set off a fire, causing damage to the BHT structures within the settlement and neutralizing most of the BHTs while a few of them fled the location. The aerial attack by the NAF is in furtherance of efforts at ensuring the complete decimation of the BHTs and breaking their will to continue their terrorist attacks on innocent Nigerians.
