You may get them in the popular places in lagos like berger, festac and Co. Diesels are not high in demand and are therefore cheaper.
I'd advise you get one with a timing chain like the BMW 318d, 320d or Mercedes.
Volkswagen and skodas are good but you wouldn't know if the belt is due for replacement since the seller will most likely not give you the service history. If the belt snaps, you can kiss the engine goodbye.
My belt was changed just before I bought it by julius berger so I am good for another 80k miles.

Oga Siena is far away in the UK, talk to 9icetoo, he is a diesel user in Nigeria and he warned against the vw engine because of the time belt they used, said if it cuts on motion you should kiss the engine good bye. It is an interference engine. You should have just bought a toks engine with that 400k

The 2.0tdi engine on ur car I presume is same with that in other volkswagen cars of same year. The engine management system will be different though. I will advise you get a replacement engine. Setting the timing on that engine is a nightmare. Very few people can do that and without the vagcom, the mechanics have been working blind and may never be able to fix that car. Contact siena, he may be able to source a used engine for you from UK and ship it to his guys at iyana itire for you to pick up.
With a snapped belt, the following items could have been severely damaged; con rod, piston, valves, wrist pins, main bearing camshaft etc. Best bet is to get a tokunbo engine.
If you downgrade the engine by converting to manual, you will lose all the fun.

What year was your car made?
I do not think there is a dpf cleaner of sorts you can pour into your car. Have you considered doing it manually? Or taking the car on longer drives with high rpms? That usually helps the dpf regenerate.

2010 , don't know any shop for manual cleaning I hear you require specialist equipment to even attempt to do that

2010 definetely has a dpf. It does require specialist equipment to clean. How many kilometers has your car covered an has the sign been displayed on the dashboard yet? To force a regeneration, take a out to a highway, get it up to speed on third gear above 60km/hr and keep your revs higher than 3000 rpms. That should force a regeneration on most cars and clear out t soot. Hope you are using low ash engine oil cos ash from engine oils eventually clog up dpf no matter no matter how often you regenerate.

If that is the route you're considering, I would advise you to sell the truck as it is, before it is destroyed further. If it needs a replacement engine, then get the CORRECT one for your year of Amarok.

With regards to your timing belt snapping so early, all I can say is there must be something in Nigeria, that prohibits decent cars built after the year 2000.

That thing you speak of is sheer carelessness and the lack luster attitude of most people in Nigeria towards cars (and almost everything come to think of it).

I have seen many decent cars ruined by drivers and mechanics who really don't know and don't wish to learn. Rather than learn, make up excuses about how this is unreliable and that is unreliable and everyone should buy a 4 cylinder Toyota.

It's sad really.

Please, let's keep this thread alive and active.

Can we get a database of good Diesel engine mechanic in Nigeria, state by state.
If you know any good one, post his name and address.
Some of us are very interested.

Thank you.
Re: Diesel Engine Club, You Welcome by ivoryhouse(m): 12:49pm On Sep 29, 2016
Hello guys, we are working on importing additives for engine oil, and fuel treatment from the UK and USA. If you are interested state your car stats and what you wish to fix. I know for sure that these additives work and we don't have to 'surgically' fix a lot of issues. I will place the orders in early October and will receive them same month so your feedback is required ASAP! If you want dpf please state your car stats(year of manufacture, model, etc).
Thank you

Please help me with info. My mechanic is working on my mercedes lorry and is charging 70k for servicing of injector.
Is this reasonable? Does he need to buy anything to do the servicing? I feel he is cheating me. Please help if you have any information. Thanks

Try to do market survey in your area first in order to know his character.

There are more petrol caravelle on Nigerian roads than diesel.

Ensure you do a survey of diesel technicians if available in the state you are interested in plying. Also diesel techy charge much follows the economics of less supply increase in price.

Due to the quality of diesel sold in naija and engine oil you will use, that engine may not last long.

As for manual or auto, manual is fun to drive and easy to maintain, I will pick it over an auto for this class due to work load

I have a 1989 landrover defender 90 with a four cylinder 200tdi turbo diesel engine which I bought as a restoration project.
I know that tdi engines run cooler than other diesel engines so do not expect cooling issues from this engine unless it is abused
I have learnt that diesel engines require care as much as petrol engines. Correct manufacturer recommended fluids and filters should be used, care should be taken to use genuine or high grade after market parts so you don't experience failure of parts.
You also should change your air filters and keep an eye on your glow plugs to ensure you enjoy your automobile.
@op,good thread
Oga ivoryhouse how far with the land rover defender restoration project, i was following that thread bumper to bumper. Were you able to finish the restoration job?

Hi all, i decided to open this thread so diesel engine owners can let us know what it entails to own a diesel engine, how to maintain it and the difference you notice between diesel engine and petrol. Also we can use this thread to find help on diesel engines and diesel engine experts can come in and assist/shed more light on using diesel engines.

i know diesel engine has few advantages over petrol in terms of
1. mpg advantage over its petrol counterpart
2. durable and last longer than a petrol variant

gurus please come in and throw more light on advantages one can derive from diesel engines that out classes their petrol counter part

i have decided to start saving for a rear classic on our road and this is the configuration i intend to get
CAR: volkswagen
MODEL: new beetle convertible
ENGINE: 1.9L TDI
HP: 104 @4000rpm
TRANSMISSION: manual
YEAR: 2006
MPG RATING: city 41/highway 61/combined 53
the major issue known to this vehicle is the electrical, which can go berserk but replacement by a reliable engineer would fix it also the plastic of the convertible top gets faulty which causes leak, replacement is cheap as researched online.

others please state the diesel car or bus you using or have used, lets know its known issues when in use etc. thanks
I have used a Toyota Avensis with D-4-D engine. The beauty of this class of diesel engine unlike others is it low emission

Hi All

I noticed this thread has been quiet but very useful in the life of those of us that have diesel cars.

I have a BMW X5 e70 3.0D and now I am having the first major issue with the engine - The Valley Pan seems to be leaking coolant.

Ofocurse every mechanic in Lagos runs away from Diesel.

Please does anyone here have a similar car or can point me in the direction of a good mechanic? I hope its not a tough question!! haha!!

thanks

Let's bring this diesel club back abeg. When you own a diesel car in Naija, you are on your own ooo. Because it's difficult to find mechanics that know what they are doing, and the parts are scarce. Groups like these will help you diagnose and DIY your routine servicing and repairs. Come back diesel owners! Haha.

2010 ML350 Bluetec. Correct machine if you maintain it well.
