seppuku: "Severing" ? Kikiki. I don't drink, btw Noone is hiding the fact that SOME South Africans are Xenophobic or how would we explain the attacks on foreign nationals. I actually had a conversation with a Ghanaian friend of mine about the article I just posted & he asked what I thought about it. I'll tell you what I told him. I told him that, at one point or another, most South Africans were Xenophobic. Myself included. Hell, I have family members who are still xenophobic to this day. But it's each & every single individual's dragon to slay. Meaning, you learn to overcome it as you allow yourself to interact with people. I even likened it to someone saying they don't like cheese even though they've never tasted it before. Until you taste all different kinds of cheese, your dislike for it will still remain baseless. By tasting it, you're opening yourself up to find one that agrees with your palate. As I write this today, I'm not going to sit here & lie & say I like all foreigners because I don't. Personally I get along well with Ghanaians. It's a hit or miss with others. However, I don't like Somalians, Pakistanis & the lot of them from the Asian countries. I don't dislike them because they're foreigners but because of how they are as individuals. My dislike stems from interactions with the said people & not out of some unfounded phobia I sucked out of my thumb. Even with that said, it still doesn't mean I dislike ALL Somalians etc because I don't. I only couldn't careless about the ones who show characteristics that I associate with Somalians, through my interactions with them. I hope you get what I'm trying to say here. 2 Likes |

seppuku: Again, that's YOUR own issue. I once stayed in a flat where we had people from across the continent. Every Christmas, all of us who didn't go home, paid money so we could all have a braai & a few drinks. I'm talking South Africans, people from Cameroon, Zimbabweans, Ghanaians & Nigerians. None of them feared being attacked because we all knew each other. Hence I mentioned INTERACTING with as many people as possible before coming to an "educated" conclusion. |

seppuku: Ah well then. She overcame her own fears & opened herself up & because of that, her perception changed. The guy also had to prove himself. It takes two to tango. The fears you have are the same fears they have & until a step is taken, both will remain in their distrust of the other. 2 Likes |

seppuku: You are contradicting yourself. Apply that " wisdom" to South Africans too, why don't you? But you can't do that because you are a victim. You have been hurt badly by South Africans and now you walk around with a chip on your shoulder, on some crusade. When it comes to foreigners, "the content of the character defines the human being and not their nationality". But when it comes to South Africans, no, no, no. No such luxury for them. Do you know how crazy you sound? No logic whatsoever. Zero thought. Zero sense. This is what happens when your views are driven by bitterness. 3 Likes |

If you were well informed you would have known that because of the policies of Health Minister Aaron Motsoaledi, SA is gradually winning the war on HIV, new infections are declining....you would"nt know that hey villager? 2 Likes |

justwise: On the contrary, you do need to be educated on this point. Nigeria leads the world in AIDS deaths. http://allafrica.com/stories/201407280986.html Also, Nigeria has the highest number of AIDS related deaths, globally, in 2013. The country is closely followed by South Africa with 13 per cent, and India with eight per cent. (quote) ___ Lots of other stats that I needn't share because the point is made. |

DieVluit: Dude you can only fool yourself....this is from that link The report stated that Nigeria has the second highest number of people living with the disease, with nine per cent of the 35 million persons living with the virus by the end of 2013. South Africa tops the chart with 18 per cent. Nigeria is also second to South Africa with 16 per cent as the countries with the highest number of the 2.1 million new HIV infections that occurred in 2013. 3 Likes 1 Share |

DieVluit: Are you afraid of those statistics? Number of SA living with HIV as compared to Nigeria? Now you are banging on about death figure. |
Re: Things You Must Know Before Coming To South Africa - A Nairalander In SA by DieVluit: 9:54am On May 15, 2015 |
justwise: Are you afraid of the statistics below? This comes from your very own source. Death is worse than walking around with HIV. HIV is a manageable disease, as South Africa has shown. Nigerians die more from AIDS. To die from AIDS, you must have HIV first. So, the picture is clear here. What is also clear is that South Africa is winning the battle and Nigeria is not. It follows that prevalence remains if infected people live longer, as they do now in South Africa. Nigeria also leads the world in Mother-to-Child infections, which means it is building a future of HIV positive people, which it fails to treat, hence the deaths.
