sunnydayasaba: It depends on the location thou, but if you ask me that's too much. 270-350 is a fair price. And it will be impossible to determine the number of cartons 330sqm will be, unless you are buying tiles of the same size. |

dgitrader: I deal in sand and granite and I can bodly tell you I don't do this. Out of many suppliers there are still few trustworthy ones which I believe I am one of. Always request for WEIGH BILL and not handwritten RECEIPT for your Granite supplies. I supply all my Granites with weigh bill(which cannot be manipulated) and it would have been so easy if sand too has weigh bill. I ve even supplied to a lot other Nairalander who doesn't want to reveal their identity,as they want it to remain a faceless forum. they only called me for the supply which made me not to know their names and also hajj Mufutau55,he can say how straightforward of a person I am. Chekitaut: I am a very straightforward person who believes in the Satisfaction of my customers who has given me the chance to prove my honesty and I will not want to fail them. To me I don't think there is any reason for me to use a quarry without a computerised weigh bill which cannot be manipulated because I love doing clean jobs. @all the ones using handwritten weigh bill you mentioned above, I will never go there because they are not the only one in Abeokuta. For INTEGRITY Sake, I use quarry with computerised weigh bills because that's the only best way I can use to convince my customers of their supplies without having to talk too much. There are lot of suppliers who supplies 12-15tonnes in place of 20tonnes and provides handwritten receipt of which some quarry even give them an empty receipt to fill whatever they want in it. Thanks and God bless. |

No one has talked about Iron rods.. That is where they have ripped me off twice. I bought about 4 tonnes of different sizes of iron rods.. After loading, I left in my car and waited for them to arrive on site. Miraculously, 0.5 tonnes disappeared before they got to site. It was later I heard from a reliable source that my Iron bender called a cabster to meet then end route and they offloaded some rods. Now I follow the trucks bumper to bumper till we get to site No more monkey dey work baboon dey chop.. 4 Likes |

SCAM 5 Have you ever bothered to see what the roofing height specification on your building drawing says? I guess not How about climbing up there to measure if the roofing height is same as the one you are getting, which of course was quoted for and paid for? I guess not too Now this is where a smart fraudulent roofer could rip you off, he can reduce your roofing height to suit his purpose and then pocket the balance on the wood as well as roofing sheets. I know most people are afraid of heights, so you can play right into their hands culled from http://amazingviewpoints..com/

dayomide70: Even if the correct quantity is loaded from the quarry, is it possible the drivers can discharge some before getting to site? How do you guard against this? |

PeoplesArmy: That has never been my problem because I have team mates who ensure that aspect is monitored. No driver has ever gone alone to load for me. Myself or one of my team is always on the truck with them. My clients here can testify to that. Also, it's not as easy as you think to discharge granite on the way o. It's not sand that will be so easy to level with a shovel. Try using a shovel to take granite from the top,you will understand what I'm saying better. |

Question for Oga Spyder or any other person that may care to share. One of the ways that I've been able to accomplish so much with so little is that I'm serving as the General Contracor on my build and saving the third party expense. I'm approaching the German floor phase of my build. The most expensive single line item is granite. Being that I'm physically available, have the time and opportunity, what is the best way to go about reducing the cost? Can I go to the quarry myself of do I need to be a registered member of some specific association? Can I rent a truck with a driver? How much is this? Will my ploy of after being armed with the bill of lading (I'm assuming it will be date/time stamped) and driving behind the truck from quarry to site remove any chance of nefarious activity? Thanks. PS: I can see a quarry that is about 10 miles from my site on Google map. 1 Like |

EgunMogaji: Oga me sir, how much savings are we looking at if you go through all these stress? 10k, 15k? Do you really think these people in this business line make a lot of money? By the time you know the full length of stress they go through and end up with profit of 5k-8k, you won't even bother to go through the stress. Let the people in this line give you what you want. They have the license to lift granite from quarry while you don't. 3 Likes |

EgunMogaji: You could follow them to the quarry and see the loading document, making sure it corresponds with the qty. you paid for, and drive behind them so they will not stop. But I have done all those with minimal success. I once went to the quarry and laid vigil, I even tried to enter the offices and monitor the payment and printing of the load document, in the end, they played with my intelligence, they even printed a quantity more than what I paid for, and when I sent the picture of the truck to Checkitaut, he assured me the truck is at least 10 ton smaller than 30 ton load. I drove with them till the border to PH, they parked and claimed they must wait till 12am in the midnight before they can enter PH, because of the state revenue task force, I insisted they enter, and they asked me to pay the N25k they will be forced to pay first. I left them to lay siege in the site and they came and dumped their load at the site before I could reach the site about 5 am. They claimed they had to get out of PH city or the task force will wake up and still catch them. There's a whole lot of organized trickery going on there, and it will mess up my business if I continue to run after them. I now have a trusted agent that supplies me, maybe he is also crooked, but he is fast and I get a regular fair size of load, fast and without chasing him to Calabar every time. 5 Likes |

PeoplesArmy: This is very possible and the drivers do it almost everytime. This is what some customers get when they want to cut cost by all means by contacting a driver to supply you instead of contacting the company the driver works for. It's called Yodi, they do it on their way to site. This is how they do it, when they get to where they want to do the Yodi, they don't tip up the bucket neither do they use the shovel to offload but they leave d granite as it is in the bucket balanced they then open the bucket's door... Automatically, granites resting on the buckets door would fall off and come down. This would make you loose like 2 tons or more depending on how full the bucket is and the size of the bucket. It stops till they are able to close or lock the bucket comfortably and conveniently without any hassle. How do you get to know if the driver has done Yodi? If u order for a full bucket of material, when it gets to your site, before tipping tell dem to open the bucket's door first and if a reasonable quantity of granite doesn't wash down or fall off before tipping then just know the driver has done a Yodi. Nb: Not that I'm supporting all suppliers on here becos I'm also a supplier but this is a common sense question. Would a fulfilled supplier ever do that? The answer is a capital 'NO'. Why becos those drivers sell dos things cheaply. Imagine, selling a Yodi of about 3 tons for like 2k. would a supplier dat is registered wit a quarry do dat? something dat costs up to 7.5k. We at Smiley, we sack those drivers immediately and the nurtw union the drivers belong to doesn't even support them on this but us and sack them as well. How can u avoid this? Just get a good, registered and trusted supplier/agent that coordinates her operations very well right from receiving order to d dilevery of materials. And also one dat fears God and always puts her customers first. I can swear with anything that if u r nt used to the system and ur think u wanna go to d quarry to get ur stuffs ursef and even if u r igboro guy, they would still cheat u and u tend to even loose more. But I don't tell those ones not to do so, but please share a true experience after, of ur dealings with them and we would all love to read it on here. Another name for quarry is deceit. All u need to do is get a very good supplier dat has good name to protect. That's why our customers always come back for more at Smiley001. It's God's will, not any man's power. Goodluck. |

Still looking for positive like minded people who has credible opinions to share. But I supposed nothing can be done about scare tactic sales attempt Thank you. PS: For those sitting on the fence, this is just basic materials management, it's simply conveying materials from source to site and it's not an unattainable rocket science. Take charge of your project, you can do it and you don't owe anyone an explanation. 1 Like |
