Chief Samuel Onunaka Mbakwe(1929 – Jan 5, 2004) was the late Governor of Imo State,a Lawyer and a Political Scientist(December 31, 198).Sam Mbakwe International Cargo Airport which is located in Owerri, the state capital, was renamed after him. In 1981, Samuel Onunaka set up Imo State University. Chief Sam served as an Administrator of Okigwe Province in the Republic of Biafra(1967-1970). He did a great job though.
