That a slowpoke decided to spite his party so as to please the opposition does not mean that what he is saying is right. Why did he wait up until now to say this, what is his motive. Truth is this administration will be rejected and spoken against because it is the in - thing to do. I have a feeling that all the policies that the opposition vehemently opposed during the tenure of the out going administration will be re-enacted by the same people that protested against them and it will begin with fuel subsidy removal. If subsidy is removed and the fuel price goes up then Nigerian ' s owe GEJ an apology, but if the subsidy is removed and the price comes down then we will know that GEJ was wrong about how he went about it. 3 Likes |

enigmang: To start with, GEJ failed woefully in the way and manner he tried to remove the subsidy (if there really was). You don't wake up one morning to announce such removal and increase in pump price without sensitizing the nation; without discussing with major stakeholders. And the partial removal that he did, what did we get in returns? The SURE-P program, as has been revealed just last week that the employee figure was inflated from 12k to 35k, is another evidence of the scam. The buses that were promised, where are they today? The refineries, where are they? Bottom line: 1. I believe there was no true subsidy in the first instance. What we had was an imaginary subsidy. 2. If there truly was subsidy, GEJ could have handled the removal in a more responsible manner than just announcing through the radio, on January 1st 2012, that subsidy was removed. No where in the whole world will such action go unchallenged. He needed to have discussed it with major stakeholders the need to remove subsidy. IBB, Abacha and even OBJ removed some subsidy and we witnessed how they handled it. 3. Nigerians, by rejecting the subsidy, were able to reduce/limit their loss had we allowed full subsidy removal. 4. Now that majority of Nigerians believe we have a more trust-worthy president in Buhari, they will accept a subsidy removal (if there was any) provided they know what they'd get in returns in predetermined dates. 2 Likes |

“Why were we having the problems? It is because those who have been enjoying the subsidy have seen the sign that it may be removed and they are afraid. Subsidy is a cartel for corruption. All those thieves and crooks that have defrauded Nigeria and Nigerians in the last 5 years must be made to return the money they collected by defrauding Nigeria, including the one that panicked and quickly released some liters of fuel to one of his filling stations and went to town to announced it. Fuel subsidy cannot work in a country with very porous borders like Nigeria and where the neighboring countries don't have fuel subsidy. |

chuna1985:What is the basis for that? Is population the only variable for consideration? How is it a disadvantage for 177 million and not for 2 million . It is like saying eggs are good for a family of 2 children but not 177 children. That does not sound analytical at all. Eggs are goo for all children and depending on their peculiar circumstances the family of 177 may be better able to afford eggs. Opinions as they enter our heads need to be screened with a filter of analysis and logic. All governments subsidize one thing or another whether they choose to subsidize fuel, education, healthcare or agriculture or defence industries etc is a local choice. No two countries have the same priorities |

Fed Govt then claimed it spent 1.3trillion naira on fuel subsidy annually. If it must be withdrawn and diverted/re-invested atall, I was then of the opinion that the best area should be overhauling or upgrading of our refineries. That way, it would have been that we suffered for the period of 5years and we now refine what we consume as a nation and the excess would now be exported. Pump price by now shouldn't be more than #25/litr Sincerely, this is what I expected us all to insist on. 1 Like |

I don't like that man one bit. He sounded more like mole in the PDP all along. he had been dining with the PDP government just to satisfy his personal gains. Now that the vhips are down he is saying rubbish on the same government he was part of. Why say this now .he thought we don't already know his antecedents? .i never trusted his ways . Jonathan was just too daft not to notice him. Then again what is he waiting for to decamp to the APC after selling off his state to the APC hausa led government. The road is now clear to him now that has spilled his own thrash about the PDP government. I dont know what is delaying his devampment . If you dont know this are the people the xore northerners always use to tilt the balance of discord against the south and south east. |

But, are majority of Nigerians so foolish? When the pdp attempted to remove this fuel subsidy, the now apc, as usual, used it against GEJ, as they used boko haram against him. They made all most all Nigerian to shout out. They so arranged it with every body that should GEJ remove subsidy, this country will go on flames. As usual, GEJ carefully increased it by a very small per cent, thus bring it to this present N97:00, and stop further discussion on it. if GEJ had insisited that fuel subsidy should be removed completely, Buhari and his apc would have caused some deaths again and use it against GEJ. The truth will come to the open. GEJ, no matter what Buhari and his Fulani northerners have, in order to disorganise you, your name will remain vindicated and will continue to raign for ever. Amen. : |

DaBullIT:Mayb the name is what confused u most the subsidy money pay to those cabals are coming from federal account. The one Gov Aliyu, Sure P is talking abt also comes from federal account. Mayb the federal govt was looking for a way to land softly becos some nigerians rejected their offer to totally romove oil subsidy. Alot of things happened that time becos the cabals had their way as they are doing now. But, thank God now alot of Nigeria want it to be remove totally at last. |
