Shake-up Looms In EFCC, ICPC by jukaizer(m): 8:59am On May 28, 2015 |
A major shake-up of the anti-graft agencies, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), will be one of the major executive tasks to be performed by the President-elect, Major General Muhammadu Buhari, after his inauguration tomorrow. New Telegraph has learnt that Buhari, with his avowed commitment to fight corruption, will in the shake- up, replace the heads of the two commissions, Ibrahim Lamorde (EFCC) and Ekpo Nta (ICPC), within a few weeks on assumption of office. A source said Buhari was considering appointing Assistant Inspector General of Police, Zone 6, Mr. Tunde Ogunsakin, to replace Lamorde. Ogunsakin was once EFCC’s Director of Operations before he assumed higher responsibilities. He added that the ICPC may be led by either a former military governor of Kaduna State, Colonel Umar Dangiwa (rtd) or a former Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Abubakar Tsav. It was also gathered that a nationwide surveil-lance has been mounted to ensure that outgoing governors whose immunity had stalled proper investigation of “some serious petitions against them” do not go on self-exile to avoid prosecution. Aside the governors, others being put under watch are ministers and some presidential aides whose closeness to the outgoing president, Dr Goodluck Jonathan, had made investigations into graft allegations against them impossible and worrisome’. Another source said the EFCC and the ICPC had mounted a nationwide surveillance in order to prevent probe-prone outgoing governors as well as other top officials of the current administration from escaping from the country. He said already, travel schedules, especially those for foreign trips of such officials for the next three weeks were being monitored. Also, airlines operating foreign routes have been mandated to furnish the nation’s anti-corruption bodies with travel schedules of top officials of the current government. According to him, the move is aimed at ensuring that officials who have pending petitions against them, but whose closeness to the outgoing president has prevented them from being investigated, will be made to defend such and possibly cleared before travelling abroad. “There are several petitions against most of the officials, some of them are governors whose immunity will end on May 29; but the most impossible and perhaps worrisome was the case of those without immunity but who are close to President Jonathan. http://newtelegraphonline.com/shake-up-looms-in-efcc-icpc/ |

Both ICPC and EFCC are non-existence throughout Goodluck administration. When a president doesn't believe that stealing is corruption, how do you expect EFCC and ICPC to perform . I hope the shake-up will start from the top to the bottom. |
