Nigeria’s Boko Haram Islamist militants have stepped up attacks since the May 29 inauguration of President Muhammadu Buhari, leaving at least 31 people dead.

In the latest attack on Sunday, an improvised explosive device planted by suspected Islamist militants went off in the Gamboru district of the northern city of Maiduguri, injuring four people, Hassan Ibrahim, a local vigilante group leader said by phone.

At least 26 people died in the city, the birthplace of Boko Haram, when a suicide bomber blew himself up at a mosque on Saturday, Aderemi Opadokun, Borno state police commissioner, said on Sunday by phone. At least five people died in an attack on the city repelled by troops on May 29.

Boko Haram, whose name means “Western education is a sin,” has carried out gun and bomb attacks in which more than 14,000 people have died across northern Nigeria and the capital, Abuja, since 2009, according to the government. The group wants to impose Shariah, or Islamic law, on the country of more than 170 million people.

President Buhari, who succeeded Goodluck Jonathan after winning elections in March, vowed in his inaugural address to defeat Boko Haram, describing the group as “a mindless, godless group who are as far away from Islam as one can think of.”

Its only going to get worse as Buhari visits Chad tomorrow to plan more attacks (according to El-Rufai's logic).

Enough of all these appellations to boko haram. Our media writes to make them feel indomitable. We make unnecessary gratification of them. The more the news about boko haram is published, the more they get strengthened in their ideology, the stronger they become in their belief.

Even some yeye bloggers will come up with irrelevant propaganda all in order to make traffic. I swear LASTMA go arrest you
