Federal character and quota system are embedded in our constitution and PMB and his VP must make sure they adhere to it by appointing qualified people from all Zones.

With this ridiculous idea they will now field a lot of people from about 2 zones claiming they are the most qualified as if other zones cannot have qualified people for the post or ministerial job.

After fielding people based on zoning and winning the elections, they want to jettison zoning as if Buhari was the most qualified person without zoning the presidency to the North within their party.

My point is until we do the right thing which is practice true federalism or regionalism we will continue to try to be smart by half. What they are proposing will only cause more disaffection in the country if any zone is marginalised further.

I don't want to believe what was written about the restructuring of NNPC and the speculations of appointments thare but its what might happen here too.

Here we go again! I've got to engage. The mention of 'Federal Character' was first coined by OBJ and Zoning is nothing but a PDP consturct, an extra-consitutional Party rule which is not stipulated in the constitution.

Federal Character and Zoning are virtually unworkable priciples that are not practiced anywhere in the world. They can never be guaranteed because of being naturally limited by nature. There will always be anomalies in Nature. Man is mortal hence the only way that it can be bolstered to a certain extent is if both no 1 and no 2 positions are awarded to the same zonal region, which in itself would be self defeating. This was the problem with Yaradua and GEJ which almost destabilized the polity.

Bearing in mind that the Nation State has serious short comings and we cannot even successfully run a national postal service or telephone corporation why should we further complicate things.

I mean where else is zoning practiced? UK,US, Germany, SA, India? Zoning is a joke.

Lets take SA for example, after Apartheid, they could have zoned the presidency to Mandela's (ANC), then Buthuleizi's (Zulus) and then back to the Whites

or USA

Northern Presidency then Southern Presidency

or UK

England, Wales, Scotland

or India

Hindus, Sikhs, Moslems


I could go no and on, but seriously, its a crude and primitive form of Politics that will eventually destabilize the Nation State as a collective.
