Anambra Govt To Chase Non-indigene Okada Riders From State by Abagworo(m): 1:07pm On Jun 27, 2015 |
By Enyim Enyim Onitsha—Anambra State government may have concluded plans to chase out of the state non- indigenes operating commercial motorcycles over alleged activities capable of causing a break down of law and order. Commissioner for Transport, Dr Ifeanyichukwu Ejikeme, gave the indication while addressing newsmen in his office on the activities of the Anambra State Traffic Management Agency under his ministry. He said those already blacklisted were Okada riders from Abakaliki, Nsukka, Calabar and Kogi. According to him, Okada riders from these states are responsible for incessant violent crisis in the state. “ I tell you that the crisis you see in the state emanating from the Okada riders are from non indigenes especially those Kogi who have been engaging us in communal war, destroying our properties and killing our people over the orient petroleum sited at Anambra east local government area of the state. “ There should be decorum amongst the Okada men and it is unfortunate that those who graduated from Okada to Keke (tricycle) are the same people and have the same methodology of operation,” he said. He said government of Dr Willie Obiano had good package for them but failed to appreciate it. He said they rather chose to be reckless in their operations which had led to the death and maiming of passengers and passersby. He said because government could no longer fold its arms and watch the activities of the Okada riders, a policy that banned them from major roads and expressways was enunciated. “ We are trying to protect them but they do not know. There are many deaths in the state as a result of their recklessness. The same policy obtains in other states and Anambra can not be an exception,” he said. Ejikeme said government had already purchased saloon cars that would be given out to commercial motorcycle operators and Keke riders on hire purchase to cushion the effect of the ban. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2015/06/anambra-govt-to-chase-away-non-indigene-okada-riders-from-state-ejikeme/ |

There might be a good intention but the modus operandi have to be such that won't create bad blood because we are all Nigerians and we have a right to hustle any where. Why don't they just jail all those committing the crimes and let innocents continue their hustle. 2 Likes 1 Share |

Okada has been banned in major roads in anambra and guess what happened; these Okada riders moved into villages and towns causing mayhem as they go. When they are caught in a crime, these criminals disclose that they're not from anambra so they get deported. I would say it's a good move cause most of them are from a particular area which is disturbing in a way 1 Like |

PentiumPro:Point of correction, it is Ibaji, a half bake of igala. They only have 1 local government. Not more than 50,000 in population. If you combine Igala from Idah local government alone, they will finish the entire Anambra state. 3 Likes |

SSPX: The truth is that our conscience should always play a part in whatever we do or say if truly we are religious. Fashola sent destitutes to their States of origin and it was made a Yoruba vs Igbo crisis by Peter Obi but Obiano today is doing the worst by sending away Ebonyi, Enugu and Kogi indigenes going about their normal Okada business. Enugu and Ebonyi are Igbos for that matter. Ohaneze has kept its mouth shut where it should be useful. Obiano needs to be called to order. No State has expelled Anambra indigenes for their high involvement in spare parts trading or heavy duty transport which constitutes nuisance to road users. Okada should be banned for everybody and not selective as there exists no evidence that all crimes are commited by Ebonyi, Kogi and Enugu indigenes. If I must say Anambra has more people with criminal tendency than those States. 2 Likes |
