pseudonomer:judicious procurement process is what a nation like nigeria need to survive its present doom not computer science. what do you say about the contracts awarded to unqualified contactors which would have been prevent if a due public procurement process had been followed? what do you say of our companies that have lost out in the copetitive race but now rely on procurement function as their cherub of clemency? |

what as computer science been doing to the uncompleted and abandoned projects we have today in our country? what solution has computer science been able to proffer? procurement and supply chain management deals with bottom line. it is not self centered like computer that gives timeliness but takes busyness. PSCM advocates win-win, computer science propagate win-lose pseudonomer: |

darrytoz:Citing of the two states is just to mention but a few. We have states like plateau state that produce sweet potato, Irish potato and vegetables among others in large quantity. Also we have States in the east that produce palm kennels and rubber in large quantity, western states we have yam, plantain to mention but a few. In recent times, mushroom farming has been introduced to Nigerian farmers and the importation of hybrid plantain and banana suckers from Cameroon which is yield a large profit to farmers. |

@ Darrytoz, Don't you think this statement is ambiguous? In view, plant physiologists have not been contributing to nation building for the following reasons |

sammyscholar: We are taking of Computer Science a course of study in building the nation, how do you separate humans from the applications that human built, it is saying separating procurement and Supply from the people who actually do the work. We need more people to study computer science if we are ever going to see any significant growth. You said "Nigeria has a country has also not been lagging behind when we talk about computer application and it science. you will agree with me that one of the most repute computer guru in america today is a Nigerian" yourself, meaning we are lacking behind economically because we are also lacking behind in Technology. Nigeria as a developing country, if we need to develop like US, UK, Australia, Japan, Canada, South-Africa and the rest of the developed Country we need to take a look at importing our IT. Even Former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan said we need to shift out attention from Oil & Gas to Technology if we ever want to become great. |

sammyscholar: This cannot significantly contribute to the National Development like Nigeria having a company like Google Inc., Apple Inc, and Microsoft. Do you know how much America generates from Tax alone from these companies. The National Security Agency (NSA) which is an intelligence organization of the United States government, responsible for global monitoring, collection, and processing of information and data for foreign intelligence and counterintelligence purposes – a discipline known as Signals intelligence (SIGINT). The NSA alone makes world trembles on hearing the name of U.S |

sammyscholar: There are still so many abandon projects in Nigeria. If we can create a unique database that I guess the Federal Government is working on, it will be so easy to keep tracks of so many things and many people which will improve this country greatly. If we have the record of all working class and retired, students and so on... It will be so easy to allocate funds and looting will be checked. The issue of ghost workers will be a forgotten story. My brother, technology is the way forward in the 21st century. 1 Like |

pseudonomer:one of the issues that have become identified with computer scientist is non-challant attitude. can we talk about nation building without talking about people? why are we building a nation? to whom are we building nation? animals or human being? like a yoruba adage says, "the child that is not trained is one that sells parents property when he becomes adult" computer science is good but it is not important to a nation building where there is no good intrastructure; where budgets are not having apparent effect on the populace; where pucblic fund is syphoned by government officials thrugh undocumented, unjudicious and falsifiedprojects. what have computer scientists done in these areas? |
Re: Nairaland Interschool Debate Second Edition Winner::FUNAAB -Congratulations- by pseudonomer: 9:45pm On Jul 05, 2015 |
Darey4u2010: Yes with Computer Science, by creating a unique database that will include all Nigerian records(Crime, education, background, marriage, properties and son) like the database U.S use that is linked with the SSN(Social Security Number). It will be so easy to keep tracks of so many things and many people, it will be so easy to allocate funds and looting will be checked. The issue of ghost workers will be a forgotten story. 3 Likes |

pseudonomer:if we can? how? are you leaving us to wonder about this? give us practical solution. can computer scientist do vendor/contactor ratings? how do you measure the worthiness of contractors? do not forget that all these need the involvement of repute procurers. i can go on and on to mention national issues that we (the prcurers) have workable solutions to. building nation, business, and people is what we can do best. we do not take peoples job like computer scientists do. we make sure all parties win. |

sammyscholar: What do you mean by nonchalant attitude? Nigeria is a country that is just beginning to take the full advantage of IT and we are still far behind but with more young people going to school to study computer science, we will get there soon. In the military regime, the foreign investors that supposed to bring IT to Nigeria refused to because there's no democracy, the market will be unfavourable for them that's why we still lack behind. Look at what America has done with technology, how they use it to improve their economy and well-being of their citizens, Don't you like that? 1 Like |

Darey4u2010:the major mole eating ruthlessly into the fabrics of our nation is corruption. and this is mostly perpetrated through public procurements and contract award. the procurements proffessionals, have in 2007, enacted a law that all public procurement and contract award should abide by. this i belived would erradicate the endemic soonest. see link below: theleaderassumpta.com/2014/02/15/an-overview-of-the-nigerian-public-procurement-act/ 1 Like |

Cool83:The government has made provisions of agricultural loans to farmers and intending farmers. They have also made available subsidised farm implemented and hybrid seeds at cheaper rate. There is also the cooperatives who are willing to grant loans to farmers. Agriculture is something that an individual can venture into with little capital and it develops in no time into a large scale enterprise. |

suco01:how come up with the conclusion that administrative work in Nigeria is baseless. As we all no, no government can function without administrators because we are the machinery upon which the functions of the government are being carried out. |

sammyscholar, appreciate your debate. i want to ask you, is procurement division really necessary for for departments of government? as you stated, they are loopholes for siphoning government funds into private pockets there. is it not better to outsource the function? example - ministry employment is established, they have a building with a procurement department that is in charge of maintaining the building and their other buildings. and in charge of procurement, from everything for tissue paper to repair of toilet seat, generators and even maintenance of lifts, and be paying people for simple things like pressing floor number and gratuity for such things. rather than employing such a huge task force for them, why not just outsource it to a management company and assign only one or two staff to manage the procurement needs of the company and liaise with the outsourced company. |

@sammy,procurement section in d civil service are d most corrupt, they add to d problem of Nigeria. They purchase substandard goods at exorbitant price in order to enrich themselve, i wonder what would happen to d live of patient when u procure fake nd substandard hospital equipments |

@pseudonomer, your writeup was all about computer science. what about Mathematics? mathematics was all about why computer was invented. computers were actually invented and developed to solved complex mathematical equations. as for those alleging that it will make human beings lose jobs, on the contrary, it creates more. if not, why are there more jobs in advanced countries that are more computerised than less developed or underdeveloped countries like Nigeria that are less developed? |

As a marketing manager and a brother to a procuring manager I will say procuring manager is very essential to get a standard goods from the market. A procuring manager source for the right good from the right source, at the right time. The 5RS serves as the dynamism of a procuring department which no other dept can does it better than they do. |

meforyou1:instead of out sourcing, goverment should rather establish a procurement commision (filled with repute proffesional procurers) who will take charge of the purchasing function of all goverment parastatals and ministries. we need to understand that public procurement function in this country is handle by people who just take accidental charge of the function. they are not proffesionals. they do not have negotiating skill, their vendor/contactor appraisal and rating skill is sinqua none. until we (proffesional procurers) take the rightful position, i am afraid to say that we will continue to live with this ugly situation. |
