Which Is The Right Finger To Wear Engagement Rings? by Oluwaruth: 3:10pm On Jul 07, 2015 |
I was at the bank the other day and I saw a guy accusing his female friend of getting married and not inviting him. The lady defended herself and said she wasn't married but engaged and will soon be getting married. The man then challenged her for putting the engagement ring on the wedding finger and not the index finger. I got confused and started wondering which is the right finger to wear an engagement ring on. Any idea guys...? |

Engagement ring is supposed to be worn on the same finger as the wedding ring. The reason why we Africans or should I say Nigerians have the mentality of wearing the engagement ring on the middle finger might be because we feel like the girl isn't yet officially engaged, what I mean is that the engagement party isn't yet done or something. But technically, you get engaged first bfr you are married, u wear your engagement ring on your wedding finger' bfr u the the wedding ring, that is why you See two rings on that finger. Have u seen a sane woman wear her engagement ring on her supposed engagement finger and wear her wedding ring on wedding finger?! NO!!! In Nigeria marriage settings, the bride gets her engagement ring alongside her bible, the groom them put the ring in her wedding finger and later that day or second day they go to church or court to officially put the wedding ring on top of the engagement ring. Whether u engage on same day as your wedding or two years bfr your wedding, engagement ring and wedding ring is supposed to be worn on same finger. Sorry for long post. I hope u got my analogy 11 Likes |

The western world use the fourth finger for engagement and wedding rings. In Nigeria we use the middle finger for engagement and the fourth finger for marriage. This is so in order to differentiate between the engaged and married women |
