The festering leadership crisis in the Senate has forced resumption of plenary from the scheduled July 21 by one more week.

Senate will now resume in plenary on July 28.

Saturday Sun gathered that three reasons forced a shift of resumption of Senators in plenary. One: There is the need for the All Progressives Congress (APC), which controls the chamber with 59 Senators, and has been embroiled in a leadership crisis since June 9, to communicate the eventual resolution of the matter to its senators.

It was gathered that the Senate Unity Forum, a faction of the APC caucus loyal to Senator Ahmad Lawan, who is the party’s candidate for Senate Presidency, has refused to recognise the legality of the Tuesday, June 9 election of Senate President Bukola Saraki and his deputy, Ike Ekweremadu.

The Forum has also refused to acknowledge the appointments of Senator Ali Ndume as Senate Leader and Senator Bala Ibn Na’Allah as his deputy.

Last month, Edo State Governor, Adams Oshiomhole was mandated by the party and the APC Governors’ Forum to mediate in the crisis in the APC Senate caucus.

A National Assembly source disclosed yesterday evening that the major reason for the shift is hinged on the visit of President Muhammadu Buhari to the United States of America. The president is scheduled to be away from Nigeria for four days beginning tomorrow.

“In addition to communicating the terms of the resolution to our colleagues, the president will not be in Nigeria on July 21. We don’t want to take any decision behind him. We want to wait for the president to come back, avail him of any resolution that may be reached in his absence and if there’s any need to adjust, the president would be in the country to guide us…

“Third, it is important to allow senators settle down, resolve outstanding accommodation issues so that when the Senate resumes in plenary, legislative business takes off full blast,” said he.

They are not serious at all.
Going on recess with no work done and here they are again extending their resumption.
I am sure after two sittings on resumption they will go on a three months recess again.
I see these guys becoming an issue to PMB's success
