Be wise.. before you sack yourself. make sure you have all the contact details and emails of all your customers. Spend time to relate a simple message via SMS. you will be leaving the employ of your company in a couple of weeks, or months (as you prefer) You thank them for their patronage and will like to keep in touch as soon as you find a new place of work. The idea is to make sure you make your Boss look unprofessional and uncaring in comparison to you. chances are they will move wiith you to your new business if it is similar to your present one. You can also use this as a bargaining chip when discussing remuneration with your potential employer. Take care and never give up or lose hope 1 Like 1 Share |

Elegantdiva: Lie to him that your mum is sick or any other lie and beg him to give you some of your salary... If he does then you quit.. Believe me its better to sit idle at home than work a hypertensive job... As long as you are sure you are not the one to blame. I Am in a similar situation and I get my pay steady no excuse and my job security is sure, but my boss is my uncle and he doesn't treat me with as much respect, so I tendered my resignation to quit this month end... Don't ever be scared to quit ur job becos u have nothing yet... All u need is a plan. 1 Like |

Your boss is not a boss, but an imposter who cannot live up to it. Dont disgrace yourself by associating or subjecting yourself to such people even if it is for a survival wage which he is not paying anyway. Every moment you spend working for no pay, is taking away precious time from looking for other work while having no pay. The fact that you recieve no pay will be the same either way, if you stay on the job or quit to look for another. Better chance for better things if you are out and about searching or making other things happen. I have seen street sellers and hawkers do better to feed themselves daily than a grown man with masters degree and head of department status. Every day he was at work with no pay for many months. Always hungry children at home who saw the uneducated farmers eating and uneducated street hawkers making at least something to survive by. Your time is your survival even if it is hawking or sellling something on the street to get paid on the spot every transaction. Also chance to grow your own business. And if you are not so successful, it is better to fail for yourself than to waste your life and energy failing for someone else who uses you with no appreciation. Your own failures will be in your own command and that is the same command that brings success out of the ashes and lessons of failure. Take care and do what is right in your heart because we dont know your entire situation, but no situation justifies being a slave(unpaid labour)... The ashes from the farm burnt to the very ground, is the richness for the success of the next crop which will thrive upon those ashes. |

I think I can relate with the fact that your business is suffering a decline due to the reasons you enumerated. Because, no business can survive competition if the prices it charges are relatively high compared with competitors. However, I find it disgusting that you were talking of a pay-off from an owner whose business is suffering. To tell you the truth, you would work for free for a long time, for that man, if the conditions stay the same except you immediately take the decision to cut your losses by resigning or walking away. |

Obviously, your service is not needed by his company. If you had suggested ways of improvement to him and he did not see reason in that, then just tender your resignation letter. As regards salaries of months you have worked for, I advise you just let it go. Many businesses are merely surviving now. Get your self confidence back, find something doing to engage you and go job hunting again. |

dustydee: I tell you this, he is bound to pay, whether there was appointment letter or not. The action is deem implied. His employee can seek redress. Your empployee is not useful, even if he works for a day, pay him and let him go. |

Op. It's like you are desperate to be seen going to work. I guess the main reason people work is to earn a living. You are not being paid, neither are you adding to your worth. Is it by force to work for him?. Despite him telling you...how you brought negativity to his company, yet you still can't figure out your exit. As regards outstanding salary, you had better let go. Take your destiny elsewhere. Having had opportunity of managing people's business, I make it a priority to pay staff salary first and ontime before paying myself. And if the owner has problem with that...I make it known to him and resign. No time for bullshit. Also if the owner is the type that pays peanut, despite company making money, I discuss it and then work out increment. If the owner doesn't like it. No time wasting...I just resign..No big deal. If the company is fond of owing suppliers and there is good cash flow with no reasons to owe...I just go ahead and pay off all outstanding debt. That's it. I can't recall how much outstanding salary I have had to forfeit from one working place to the other. Yet life goes on. The next thing you here is oh...he is taking kick back, he his sleeping with staff and all sorts. As long as I have done the right thing. I don't really care what they say. Most company owner's in Nigeria don't have the welfare of staff in mind. All they do is make money and spend recklessly elsewhere, while the hardworking staff plead to be paid. 2 Likes 1 Share |

Elegantdiva:Quit that job, why work without an appointment letter. I know your problem, you are afraid of staying at home. Who told you there are no jobs out there, its not a must that you work for company. The education sector employs more than any other sector in the Country. |

Start your own business. If you can survive 4-5 months without getting paid, you can as well start working for your self doing the same business that boss employed you to do and do it better. |

dustydee:. By implication. That is means, he may not be expressly employed by appointment letter, his employment can be inferred. Ever wondered how one man-shops (businesses) in Nigeria manage their staff? Do you think employees in this sort of settings cannot prove their employment or seek redress in industrial court if their effort and human dignity are not upheld? Never think of allowing anyone you know try this in the hope of getting away just because he never gave appointment letter to any of his staff. |
