However, the forex reserves of Africa's top crude exporter were down20.9 percent from $$38.8 billion a year ago.

The growth in reserves for the month was attributed to efforts of the present government to plug leakage and demand management by the central bank.

The central bank restricted access to foreign exchange by last month and introduced tight control of the foreign exchange market to curb speculation and conserves forex reserves.

As things are now, a wise Nigerian President will preoccupy himself with developing the country rather than building up reserves that will be squandered by his successor at the end of his tenure. From our history, Abacha liquidated what was generated before his regime. Jonathan squandered all that Obj handed over as foreign reserves and took us back to square one by incurring debt.

Wailing wailer, what you have written up there is poo. You have book knowledge but no practical knowledge or application.

The government have block leakages and allowed those who want to exchange to go to the parallel market and find their dollars or pounds, euro or whatever. Obviously there are a lot of traders who want to import reserve wasting items and other unpatriotic speculators who are in it to make a few bobs. These saboteurs are the ones offering creating the satanic demand for fewer and fewer hard currency thus colapsing the value of Naira.

The government is correct to restrict access to our reserves. Let those who are desperate for the dollar buy it from the parallel market.
