Why did you locked the thread , " Nigeria cannot afford an Ibo president"
Re: A Question For The Moderator: RichyBlacK by udezue(m): 7:53am On Mar 20, 2009
Coz we don't need ur hateful stupidity u OAF. But thanx for honesty tho. I wish more and more Nigerians like you can just spill out their hatred openly for us so Igbos will know who and who they are dealing with.

@kayg1234 and @udezue

You guys should get a room and ease the tension tongue
Re: A Question For The Moderator: RichyBlacK by KnowAll(m): 4:01pm On Mar 20, 2009
Nigeria cannot afford an Ibo president - The heading is tribalistic to say the least and should have been locked ages ago, every Nigerian can have a go for top job irrespective of your tribe. The poster should have at least try to modify the title if he really wants a debate to something like " Can Nigeria really afford to have an Igbo president " this kind of question is open to debate and as long as people are not getting over heated and into self degradation the thread will be left open. Mr moderator keep the good work going.
Re: A Question For The Moderator: RichyBlacK by deb(m): 4:39pm On Mar 20, 2009
All those with 'biafra' added to their status are the ones denying Igbos Nigerian presidency.
You need to repent.

Richyblack,  I'm waiting for an answer

I've not heard your argument. Tender your argument and I'll tender mine, my answers to your question. However, if you don't like that approach and just want an answer to your question, then here its is: "I locked the thread because I concluded that it should be locked".

Want to try the better approach of submitting an argument? I hope so.

Now let's see how smart and intellectual Billygoat (Bilymuse) is. Time to test his logic skills and how he arrived at the warped notion that Igbos cannot be afforded the Nigerian presidency.

You're not getting the point. I want him to tender his argument so we can discuss the issue. I'm giving him a chance to air his views. If I find his argument compelling, I will unlock the thread. This is not abuse of power. I want him to make his case. What is wrong with that?

Do not waste your time. That guy, bilymuse, can never sustain any argument. The guy is a bloody illiterate and an utter ignoramus.
Re: A Question For The Moderator: RichyBlacK by Depilot(m): 6:40pm On Mar 23, 2009
I see nothing wrong with the topic. Being an Ibo is not an insult and the term "Ibo" should not be seen as an insult.
It is obvious that the topic is twisted, but it is also simple and straight forward "Nigeria can not afford an Ibo president"

It is the same as:
Nigeria is not ready for an Ibo president.
Ibo people are not ready to lead Nigeria

It is all about educating each other. The best we could have done was to educate the poster of the topic, by proving him wrong.
Locking up the topic with no explanation defeat the purpose of this forum, it also shows lack of creativeness and receptiveness to the opinions of others.
Re: A Question For The Moderator: RichyBlacK by asha80(m): 6:54pm On Mar 23, 2009
Chinua Achebe was not wrong in citing the 'igbo problem' in that his book "The trouble with nigeria".Nigeria as a country is a failed state and some people are only interested why a particular ethnic group out a possible 250 cannot rule nigeria.Nigerians and their foolishness.

The priceless value of this forum should not be depreciated, I think the moderator should be fired or laid off (which ever sounds better).
Re: A Question For The Moderator: RichyBlacK by blackspade(m): 7:26pm On Mar 23, 2009
Why is there even a discussion on this? The thread needed to be deleted, not only was it offensive, but it could have also been used as something to incite violence against Igbo's. Good job RichyBlacK.

I say lock this thread too, this is a meaningless discussion. . .
Re: A Question For The Moderator: RichyBlacK by Depilot(m): 7:49pm On Mar 23, 2009
I disagree.
We are all brothers and sisters, topic like this one will only keep us closer to one another.
There is no need to hide your feelings or brush anything under the carpet. Just bring it on and allow others to educate or help you understand things better.
This should be the main idea of this forum.

Blackstar,
do you want me to start listing other extremely offensive topics on this forum that did not get deleted?

Regardless of the intention of the poster, every topic has value.
The way people respond to topic like this one is the only black dot. Therefore, instead of locking up the topic, I think careless members with ridiculous or degrading comments toward the topic should be the ones to be locked down.

Biafra is our history. U can never talk about Efik, Igbo, Ijaw without the word Biafra somewhere. To deny me that right is to deny me the right to be who I am. Its my heritage. If u don't like it that is your bloody business. We don't need ur stinking approval especially when Nigeria is nothing but a useless jungle. I love my history. I'm proud of the men and women, my uncle who fought back instead of letting you bloodthirsty people aided by UK, USSR, and Arabia to rape and pillage our land and our people without a fight. My only problem with Biafra is that she did not succeed but till today the very word "Biafra" still sends shivers down ur spines. Biafra never die. Until u change ur wicked way u will hear BIAFRA BIAFRA and when u learn to respect that part of our history and urs you will not be bothered when u see Biafra anywhere. You will go back to the map and recognize that the Bight of Biafra exists.

There is nothing wrong with the topic, it is part of reality of life.
Fingers are not the same, people are different, people think and see things differently. And not everyone will like the identify of your ethnic.
Part of civilization is agreeing and disagreeing, this is what keeps earth rotating.

The topic should be reactivated and allow Ibo people to present their case, let them educate the poster of the topic.

Yes not everyone will like the id of your ethnic but did not allow that group to break away when it wanted to.
Re: A Question For The Moderator: RichyBlacK by Depilot(m): 9:40pm On Mar 23, 2009
The moderator has only locked up the topic, he hasn't given a single reason for his action as yet.
I do not think its right.

I don't care if you're speeding or disobeying any other traffic laws, the police officer gives you the reason before writing you a ticket. But it seems that our moderator he's doing things in a reversal mode.

It would have been much better if our moderator showed the members some respect. eg:
The topic has been locked up because it is too sensitive or offensive for some members to handle. Therefore, to show some respect and encourage unity, I (the moderator) have decided to lock up this topic till I discover a good reason to release it.

It's funny how some of you are so eager to attack the moderator over the closure of that thread. . .it makes me wonder, are some of you illiterate? In the rules, it clearly states:

NO SEXUALLY EXPLICIT OR HATEFUL CONTENT

Please do not post any pictures, multimedia content, or writing that is sexually explicit (lewd, suggestive, bawdy, dirty, erotic, filthy, gross, hard core, immodest, indecent, indelicate, lascivious, licentious, naughty, obscene, off-color, pornographic,  X-rated, smutty, suggestive). We will also not allow any comments that promote hatred or discrimination against any race, ethnic or religion group, gender, sexual orientation, et cetera.

https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-1026.0.html

Why does RichyBlacK need to explain himself when the rules clearly justify why he closed the thread?
Re: A Question For The Moderator: RichyBlacK by chidichris(m): 8:28am On Mar 24, 2009
MandingoII,
if u are sound enough, u can provide 1000 reasons for ur foolish friend on why the moderator must lock that thread.
there are rules and regulations guiding this forum and fools can go through them before using the forum.

i have said it here times without numbers, the forum needs more actions to avoid this forum go the ways of nigeria where we have constitutions that are never active.

that we have a free forum here can help us address problems of nigeria and not to start tribal wars.

i know it is not easy, otherwise, i will urge the moderator to be more active with people's behaviours here but the most unfortunate thing is that we have a lot of crazy ideas in the house.
Re: A Question For The Moderator: RichyBlacK by Pataki: 8:49am On Mar 24, 2009
That topic should have been locked down ages ago. In my own view, the Politics section still has the least measure of moderation; or how else can one explain why people suddenly bring tribal sentiments into Nigerian politics when there is a Racism, Tribalism section on nairaland, where you can go type your rubbish in there.

A call has been to the OP to state his arguments as to why the thread should be opened again. I think that is truly a fair call and very reasonable. The onus is now on the OP or whomever, that feels a responsibility towards that thread to state his/her arguments for opening the thread once more.

A holistic look at the outcome of the thread in the Politics section indicates that:

1) Certain tribe felt offended with the topic;

2) The thread was having no direction and insults became the order of the day;

3) It led to an increase in tribalistic threads being created within the Politics section.

Ever since that thread was locked, with two other thread following the same lock-down from the moderator, tribal sentiments - threads creation have been on the decline.

However, I still wish to enjoin of the moderator and administrator, if there can be an additional rule to posters found erring in interjecting tribal insults to thread, which leads to thread derailing and annoying other posters, by placing a one week ban on such posters. If such posters are reported to the moderator, I think the moderator can best use his discretion to know what appropriate measure to undertake.

@ RichyBlack

People given position of trust to administer must be willing to explain their actions when called upon and take full responsibility for their deeds. To deny somebody his the right to air is view is to take away his fundamental human right. By locking the thread without explanation, RichyBlack has acted like the Abacha regime who would closed a newspaper house simply because they don't like what the paper wrote. Peace is not the absence of conflict, but the presence of justice.

In this scenario, RichyBlack is acting like the prosecutor; the jury does not expect the defendant to explain to them why the prosecutor has brought him to court. The anus lies with the prosecutor to explain to the jury why he has brought the accuse to court.

RichyBlack took an action, it is for him to explain why he took the action. He cannot expect me to enter into his head and speculate on the reason behind his action. How do you expect me to defend myself in a court when no charge has been proffered against me.

I believe have done absolutely nothing wrong, nor broke any law in Nairaland that warrant the thread to be locked. I presume innocent unless prove guilty.
