Unpaid Salaries: “publish Imo Accounts” – Archbishop Obinna Dares Okorocha by GOATandYAMtheory: 3:33pm On Aug 09, 2015
The Catholic Archbishop of Owerri Ecclesiastical Province, Most Rev. Dr. Anthony Obinna, has challenged Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha, to publish disbursement of the state funds.

Obinna spoke yesterday, while delivering a sermon at Maria Assumpta Cathedral, Owerri, the state capital.

He said disclosing the expenditure would enlighten the people on the true financial status of Imo.

Wondering why workers and pensioners were being owed, the cleric said “Lack of salary creates room for murmuring. It is necessary that parents receive their salaries and pensions to take care of themselves and their families. When parents do not provide for their families, it will lead to murmuring.

“If there is money, why is it not being used to pay workers and pensioners? If there is no money, it is important to let people know. Lack of accountability and transparency could lead to murmuring”.

According to him, government account was not a personal thing and should be made public, if the government truly wants to be accountable.

“Publish the account so that everybody will know that there is no money. But as long as Nigeria is considered a rich country, as long as oil is still flowing, everybody is looking up to see when the oil money will get to the state”, Obinna said.

I am of the opinion that men of God should stick to the pulpit.

Religion and Politics do not mix, especially since we are not operating in a theocratic setting. Okorocha is an APC Governor, those in the APC do not loot or steal public fund.

Let the Governor concentrate on Governance please.

And since we are talking about making accounts and financial statements open, the Catholics should make all their financial Statements open too for us to go through it. Why was the last POPE told to resign?was it not because of financial impropriety? and if properly investigated, we should not be surprised this Bishop talking, has a SON somewhere with a wife, even if he suppose to be celibate.

Honestly, the Catholics Bishops have no moral standing to question any Government, not with the moral Decadence in the Catholic Church and at the level at which these Priests keeping sleeping with little boys, actually is suppose to make us not take them serious.

If the PDP decides it is the Catholic Church they want in the fight against APC, let them bring it on. After all, the Catholics have lost relevance a long time ago.

The religious leaders need to intervene, most of these big men go to church and mosque, the religious leaders need to talk teach them morals since they tend to "respect" them(religious leaders)

Obinna is too opionated but on this one, the arch-bishop is right. . Okorocha seems to be taking the loyalty of imo state people for granted. He should come clean on the financial state of imo. . The situation we find ourselves in at the moment is very allien to us. . Pensioners are dying without receiving their gratuities. Workers are not being paid and most projects have been abandoned. . Something fishy is going on. .

Really? Aren't you (APC members) the same persons who cheered Rev.Fr. Mbaka and termed him a "true patriot" for consistently attacking GEJ/PDP and endorsing Buhari?

So if the accused person is a PDP member, religion and politics can mix?

Hypocrite!

Nwokem jee duro ala. Your popularity has dwindled for supporting Jonathan and fighting Okorocha. You lost both at State and Federal level. I expected your type to be vocal like Mbaka in condemning Jonathan's wickedness to Imo State, Igboland and Nigeria but you chose to dine with the devil.

Wail on!

Mbaka was truthful on that occassion but this man has killed his integrity by dinning with Jonathan. I used to respect his guts but not anymore.

I think is right for Rochas to break his silence on the financial status of his state whether it is red or green.
