I just wanted a platform to share knowledge and concepts to solve issues, but unfortunately most people lack the spirit of debate and decorum, perhaps they really don't understand what education means. I got the post from first bank BBM channel which I stated clearly but to my greatest dismay some uncivilized entities decided to attack me because they felt their opinion to the answer is right which is different from mine. I would love to have a contest with those individuals on nairaland maths debate some day.

Bro, do not let that bother you. There are a lot of miscreants hiding behind the keyboard to type insults and rubbish.

I am sure you are still writing aptitude tests.

You finished secondary school ten years ago doesn't make you an adult cos you don't act like one. By the way, I still don't understand how my lack of arithmetic skills is any of your business. Are you a v0yeur?

Handsome4real:

Point of correction I don't use BIS but Android subscription. Also I'm an adult and not a kid. I wrote WAEC ten years ago so you should Dobale. You don't have simple arithmetic skills and you still displaying more foolishness. I pity you.

3+3*3-3+3=12. why is it 12? now we introduce BODMAS and can only get the answer if we use it how it should be used.let's start now
B for bracket( )
O for of
D for division
M for multiplication
A for addition
S for subtraction.
from d equation we are concerned about> MAS
I.e we do d multiplication first so we have
3+9-3+3 which is 12-0 coz -3+3=0. so d answer is 12. for better understanding u can even rearrange before u subtract I.e 3+9+3-3.

U started out well, but in the end u fumbled... 3+9-3+3.....using d simple MAS u tink u understand well... Addition comes up (3+9)-(3+3)= 12-6=6
FINAL ANSWER IS 6..

No sir. He's right; the answer is 12.

The second bracket in tour solution caused you the problem.

And where you put a bracket, it's supposed to alter the + sign and concerns it to minus, hence it becomes. .

3+9-(3-3) which equals 3+9-0 which clearly equals 12.

True, the introduction of bracket ain't required....i had written d answer and discovered him introducing bracket initially to (3*3) got me distracted... 12-3+3 =9....maths fan for life

I know this will give 0. But usually when there are more signs in a given equation bodmas rule applies.

We might decide de to tweak it a little : 12 - 3 x 3 =

12 - 3 x 3 = 12 - 9 = 3

Multiplication comes first.

Now see this: -3 = (-1) x (+3)

Do u agree?

agreed multiplication comes first. But between addition and subtraction which comes first?

Yes I agree (- x +) = -

Addition and subtraction have the same precedent.

Eg, 0 - 3 + 3 = - 3 + 3 = 0 = 0 - 0 = 0

Multiplication and division have the precedent same

Eg. 2/2 x 3 = 1 x 3 = 3 = (2 x 3) / 2 = 6/2 = 3

1. 0 is a figure and can't be discarded. Ordinarily, I'll say the answer is - 6.

If we were to tweak the question like (a) 3 + 3- 0 =
(b) 3 - 0 + 3 =

We'll have different answers.

We're all here to learn
