A Christian pastor in Florida is caught on video telling women their job is please their husbands by cooking, cleaning, and looking good. Pastor Bill Lytell of Florida’s Gospel Baptist Church took a moment to explain to women what their role is in life: You manage your home. You’re responsible for buying the groceries, make sure there’s food, make sure the house is kept impeccable. You have a hot meal waiting when your husband gets home, you have the house all cleaned up, laundry all done, dishes all done, baby all fed, squared away, and meet him at the door looking like a [kiss gesture] million bucks. That’s probably some of the best marriage advice you ever got… Ouch. Earlier this year, Pastor Lytell went on a wild rant , yelling at his congregation “This is a man’s world!” while arguing that men must rule over women and in so doling implying that women are inferior to men in “every church that’s right with God.” The following is an excerpt from Pastor Lytell’s sermon explaining to his congregation that it is a man’s world: Don’t you be ashamed you go to a church with male leadership. Every church that’s right with God oughta have a sign: ‘Male Leadership.’ Because that’s the only kind of leadership, both from Adam all the way to the last part of the Bible. It’s all been male. This is a man’s world! And all the men said, ‘Amen!’ There aren’t many places where men can’t even rejoice anymore without feeling about half-ashamed because they try to put you down or sue you or something, but brother this is a man’s world. You can say what you want, you can do what you want, but God made Adam in leadership and it’s going to end with a man in leadership. Bottom line: Pastor Lytell’s imaginary God wants men to rule over women, and wants women to cook, clean, and look pretty for their husbands. And while this may be amusing for reasonable adults, it is sad that there are some people who actually believe this misogynistic non- sense, and tragic that there are children being taught this destructive and morally repugnant message.
