TheFreeOne: Because you see the word 'strong', you probably assumed strong institutions are made of cement. That's so wrong. Institutions are managed by people and if it is effective it means you either have the right leadership or there is an effective external check or both. |

Zikkyy: Is your cement analogy all you can deduce from my post or you are trying to be funny? So its not necessary encouraging strong institutions cos there's an assumed strong leader with strong body language |

TheFreeOne: Take an institution like efcc. Why would anybody consider it to be strong? Is it because the commission is effective in handling economic crimes? If the efcc is seen to be effective, the question is how was it achieved? Is it because we have angels working in efcc or is it because to do otherwise will result in sanctions? So who or what system ensures personnel continues to do the right thing by adhering to policies/processes? Leadership? Other External checks? Institutions are effective because people running them want to succeed or some external forces/regulators want them to succeed. So back to your question, to encourage strong institution means ensuring these institutions functions as intended and it's not just by empowerment. Effectiveness is most times a reflection of that institutions perception of the altitude of the ultimate oga at the top. So body language matters (for now). |

M16: Appealing to religious/ethnic sentiments is common during electioneering campaigns. But after elections a reasonable leader should be father to all. Try to learn and understand politics and zip up if its too much for you.

modath:If you are placed side by side with Buhari in terms of senselessness, both of you are equal. You, Buhari, apc and her friends have not seen anything yet. Who do you thing is as foolish as you people are that will allow Buhari to probe? Your apc government, including Oshiomhole returned with Buhari from the US and told lies that an American from the government told him that GEJ has a bank account which figures are damn too big such that the amount has crippled the Nigerian economy. Within a short time, the US government refuted it. The Oshiomhole told us again that the cost of Onitsha Bridges is rocking the highest heaven, whereas the actual amount Oshiomhole claim is even very far from less than what Oshiomhole claimed yet your dunce Buhari is not burdered to call his party members to order. In such a case, who with the normal brains will allow apc to carry out any probe? If Buhari with his half inch neck can comfortably appoint his Fulani members and abandoned people from other regions, why do you thing his probe will bring any fair results? I beg and tufiakwa to both of you. 1 Like 1 Share |

billyG:Am very sorry that I have continued to insult Buhari who is a little senior to me. But apc has set the pace for others to follow. It is not actually our tradition and custome to abuse abi insult our seniors. Come to think of it if you can recollect how apc rubbed GEJ into the muds. Nothing will ever change this insultive attitude of mine over Buhari and apc. I swear I will on daily bases finish up Buhari and his apc members even in his presence, the SS,, police etc. I swear, it has come to stay. I advise, let us learn to stay with it. Thanks |

Contradict myself? May be you misunderstood cos didn't subscribed to your strongman ideology. I am not a fan of Buhari but I hope he genuinely encourages strengthening of strong institutions in the fight against corruption/societal ills and eschew playing to the gallery, ethnic bias and nepotism. |

TheFreeOne:U dnt hv to be a fan of PMB u kno...and I guess u are d one who has misconstrued who strongmen/women are as it relates to govt institutions. Sir "strongmen/women" doesnt jst refer to a principled, hard talkin fellow in d mould of a PMB but one who goes ahead to take hard decisions. Yes, hard decisions which might not b popular but ultimately it is to serve d greater good. For example, bringing an outsider into d Customs to clean dt place up. So how do u suggest he strenghtens those institutions? |

shaqhead: He should encourage/support making policies that'll curb corruption like Gej did with TSA & IPPIS. The constitution protects the rich/powerful hence our present laws and the judiciary are not helping matters. I still maintain that our best shot at a better Nigeria lies in the NATIONAL CONFERENCE RECOMMENDATIONS but unfortunately our leaders are fond of throwing the baby away with the bathwater when it doesn't suit their selfish interests. |
