Nigerian President, Umaru Yar’adua has expressed regret that Nigeria was not invited to the G-20 meeting of world leaders on the global economic crisis held in London.

Yar’adua, who was addressing members of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Thursday in Abuja, said: "Today is a sad day for Nigera as a country. This is because we are not invited to a meeting of the 20 world leaders. We have the population, we have the resources and we have the potential.

"The global financial crisis is not a joke, it is real and demands the sacrifice of all to contain the crisis and make sure that Nigeria comes out stronger,’’ he said.

Arguing that all predictions about the crisis indicated that there would no solution this year, he urged all tiers of government in Nigeria, the labour, non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and the private sector to work to reduce the impact of the meltdown on the country.

He expressed confidence in the leadership of the ruling party and the government to generate the capacity for Nigeria to come out of the economic crisis stronger and attain the Vision 2020.

He told party chieftains that a bill on the government electoral reform process would soon be forwarded to the National Assembly for the necessary amendments to the constiution and the Electoral Act 2006.

"The Electoral Reform Committee submitted its report, the government issued a white paper on the report, and the white paper was discussed with the Council of States.

"We will soon send a bill to the National Assembly for necessary action.

"The reform of the electoral process is the responsibility of all Nigerians - government, security agencies, political parties and civil society organisations,’’ he said.

Yar’adua announced the intention of the administration to concession some major roads in Nigeria next year and that private investment in the road sector, through concessioning, was strategic to the provision of infrastructure in Nigeria.

He reiterated Nigerian government’s commitment to supply 6,000 megawatts of electricity by the end of the year, and an additional 1,000 megawatts by 2011.

In his address, the National Chairman of the PDP, Mr Prince Vincent Ogbulafor, said that the party would on April 20 hold a special national convention to amend its constitution, "as part of ongoing efforts to reposition the party for national development’’.

Must this man make a pillory of himself? What is this nonsense about? Who would invite a nation battling with high corruption, mis-mangement of funds, former president (Obasanjo) has been implicated with the Burton drama and corruption in the US? We have an ailing president, whose picture is worse-off than that of Michael Jackson. Who would want to snap picture with all those color combinations on his face?

What single product are we producing in Nigeria to be branded as: ''Made in Nigeria''? And yet we want to talk of climate change, global recession, etc. Have we tackled any of these problems as a nation in Nigeria? Have we even identified them in the first place?

They should all be ashamed of themselves in Asshole Rock. South Africa was among the G-20, Indonesia was among, and yet the stupid ''Giant of Africa'' could not be found anywhere near.

I can now confirm Yar'adua is mentally-ill.

You sir Yar adua are an idiot.

For how long are we going to be living on inflated population? India and China have the population but they also have the ideas and the leadership which is why they are in the G20! Pakistan has the population but who cares? Sure we have the resources but at this rate we wont have it as a bargaining chip in the next 40 yrs . . . where is your vision to diversify the economy? What potential do we have sir?

Nigeria's problem is not the "global financial crisis", it is the rapacious greed of your government, your own inefficiency and total lack of relevant ideas. How has AIGs problems affected Nigeria? When the world's economy was booming 5 yrs ago where we any better off?

Sir, i think your problem was that you were not invited for a photo-op to burnish your tattered credentials . . . congrats to the G-20, about time they stopped legitimising illegal and irresponsible governments like yours.

What would you have added to the G-20 summit? What is the point talking of regulating banks when you and your government officials brazenly rob the CBN?

Of course, it is very unfortunate and sad Nigeria is not a part of the G20. But, Mr President may have missed the memo that G20 memberships are not randomly doled out on a platter neither can a country bribe its way into the exclusive club.

Rather than lamenting over their failures, our leaders should tighten their bootstraps and get the $%^* to work. Give us a top 20 economy, and not even neo-imperialists can keep Nigeria out of the G20.

All of you are right on the money on this issue. Besides, non of those presidents are sick and a lame duck. Non of them will leave thier c\ountry for weeks in prestest that he is praying to Allah whereas he is recieving a kidney. Non of them still continues to travel to other countries every other month to get medical help while paralying the whole country. This idiot did not even handover power to his vice and left the whole counry in a stand still, a state of confusion and wonder. If we had a real democracy, this fool will have been impeaced a long time. He should lament on the poverty of nigerians, the killings of people in the north and niger delta, the diseases and poor education of northern children, the lack of accountabity in the country he presides and all the stupid and ill defined decisions he has made throughout his tenure. I have lost total respect for this Animal,

the punch also includes this most insensitive and dishonest comment from President Yar Adua - On the global economic meltdown, the President urged Nigerians to brace up for hard times, saying that there was no hope that the crisis would end this year.

I wonder what "hard times" he was asking us to brace up for - no electricity, no water, fuel scarcity, hunger, poverty, lecturers strikes, bad roads, no water, no jobs, 50% illiteracy?

Anyone have an idea what he meant by "hard times"?

Nigerian President, Umaru Yar’adua has expressed regret that Nigeria was not invited to the G-20 meeting of world leaders on the global economic crisis held in London.

What Yaradua should be regretting is the usurping of power by the north since independent which led to complete decay, retrogression and waste of every opportunity of Nigeria being developed, It will never be well with northern Nigeria. 2015 is it, is either things get done for the benefit of every one or we would screw the country for the disadvantage of every one, the G20 thing should be a wake up call, but it won't cause they are not even smart enough to see it.

Nigeria is not yet ready for G20.We need to breed doctors, lawyers, businessman, scientists, teachers, public speakers, congressmen. And, we must find a way to instill these alternatives into the minds of our youth. Even though it may take a little longer and they may have to study a little bit harder, the results will be long term success.

Nigeria under Musa Yar'Adua has been since May 29 2007 on a boat cruise without a defined destination making so much haste, but less speed. Sorry 2 say, this govt is a purposeless one and G20 leaders and countries are people in govt with defined purpose hence the initiative to hold the meeting. He should stop crying over split milk and face his so-called '' PDP POINT SORRY SEVEN POINTAGENDA''!

Talk is cheap. Pass some bills through the house first.

What happened to the summit which was supposed to be convened for the purpose of redrawing the constitution? Any news on that?

What happened to the bill to allow EFCC to prosecute sitting Government officials? Any news on that?

What happened to the planned Niger Delta Ministry? Any news on that?

Whats all this talk about a shake-up of the electoral system? Sack Maurice Iwu first and let your actions show us that this bill is serious. Why is he still in his position despite cocking-up the last election entirely and having many of the election results overturned at the court?

Instead what we get is 'rebranding'.

There is no follow-through in Yaradua's Govt, just one speech after another with no action.

No wonder you all stay away and write rubbish, a country you despice so much can not add any iota of value to your life, so why not just live her and her leaders alone while y'all f off?

G20 is for the Obamas dat will talk, smile, run and demo like hale and heart men.

Shut-up! What a blind bigot. Did you read the title of the thread? Yar'Adua Laments. . . . . . Has he lamented on the high state of corruption? Has he lamented on the high joblessness in the country? Has he lamented on the poor infrastructure in the country? Has he lamented the high environmental pollution in the country? Has he lamented on the poor refineries in Nigeria? Has he lamented on the fact those who stole this country dry still enjoy FG money till tomorrow? Has he lamented on the poor security of lives and property in Nigeria? I was watching the live transmission of Obama in France, and he said that if Kenya wants America to help in its development, then Kenya has to start tackling its' corruption.

Is that not applicable to Nigeria itself? Have we tackled the high corruption prevalent in Nigeria? Yet a mumu like you, would be quick to say it is those abroad, that are now pulling the nation down. You need help seriously.

Wow! for the first time in my nairaland life, i have decided to follow the crowd.
the hearam and doam shld be concentrating of how best to use prof. iwu in 2011.
he shld be talking about how pdp will rule nigeria forever and ever.
he shld look out for the best ways to further take nigeria back to early 30s.
how on earth can all these elected presidents have meeting with a selected president?
is he not feeling the heat of what happened to his oga(obj) in london?
someone, somewhere can somehow make yar adua to understand that g20 is for presidents from countries where there is electricity and security going to another country with same.
how can a man from the dark world (nigeria) go to such meeting. yar adua is supposed to be used to darkness, poverty, hardship, lack of security, fraud and embezzlement at high and low places.
i told ppl that obama is going to be more radical than bush and from the way he talks, idiot like yar adua will soon begin to feel the heat.
with pdp and these crop of criminals, nigeria has to wait till they form G 1 million as that is when they will get opportunity to attend meetings with such action men like brown, obama and sarkozy.
by the way, will yar adua leave ekiti election to attend g20?
the nigerian london students made mistake of using eggs and tomatoes on obj. every goliat needs stone and as such, nigerians abroad shld learn to always have their stones in waiting for our leaders outside nigeria so that they will always return with plasters and bandage as the price they have to pay for making us slaves all over the world despite the rich kingdom God created us into.

G20?

No electricity, no water, no roads, no accountability, no real elections, back breaking poverty.

First of all, we're not G100 (literally). Please see the Human Development Index (UN website or Wiki "HDI"wink. Nigeria is lower rank than Haiti, Bangladesh, Pakistan, India, Cuba, Vietnam.

All of those countries deserve an invite before Nigeria as they are more developed.

G20. HA!!!!

"We have the people". HA! (Drowning of the coast of Lybia)

"We have the potential" HA! (To Loot)

"We have the resources" HA! (That we can't manage)
