NBC, Stakeholders Collaborate On Digitization Process by Nobody: 11:04pm On Sep 04, 2015
The Electronic Media Content Owners
Association of Nigeria (EMCOAN) has indicated
interest to work with Nigeria Broadcasting
Commission (NBC) as the regulatory board
expressed willingness to partner with her in the
actualization of digitization of broadcast industry
in Nigeria.
...
While EMCOAN stressed the need for the NBC to
collaborate with stakeholders in the industry for
effective and successful switch-over as a result
of the board’s inability to meet the initial June
2015 deadline, the association mentioned that 18
months extension by NBC can only be actualized
if stakeholders are carried along.
Speaking at a media briefing in Lagos, EMCOAN
President, Mrs. Debby Odutayo said, “Digitization
worldwide demonstrates that industry and
political considerations prevail in the discussions
concerning the planning and the implementation
of the digital switchover polices.
Regulators in Nigeria hitherto failed to recognize
the inherent opportunities of using readily
available expertise at its disposal just as
consultation across board were not wide
enough.”
Represented by the association’s PRO, Toyin
Ohio-Alegbe, Debby Odutayo who was re-elected
as the President of the association for the
second term said that EMCOAN which is
responsible for over 85% of media content in
Nigeria, should be integrated in the process
because of its strategic position as a body of TV
and radio program producers.
“In the next 18 months as
extended by NBC, Nigeria should be joining otherAfrican countries like Ghana, Tanzania,Kenya etc, which appears to have gone ahead and readily
serves as benchmark for successful switch over
from analogue to digital broadcasting–where a
simulcast services is run by TV stations such
that a set-up box could easily receive more than
20 DTT channels.” She said.
...
Odutayo also reiterated that her association’s
participatory in the international events coupled
with the upcoming Mipcom festival which holds
in France in October, 2015, is an indication that
EMCOAN is fully strategized and fit to work in
partnership with NBC.
...
She also indicated that the association will be
open to throw her weight behind the regulatory
body by deploying viable platform and resources
to sensitize the generality of Nigerians on the
massive change of switching from analog to
digital broadcasting.
