What happens next after the element of surprise wears off? How many battles have been won based on element of surprise? Do you even know how many battalions and garrisons were in Lagos and the South-West? And their military strength? Any offensive won by using an element of surprise does not last long, if your opponent is better armed and better fortified with men, materials, resources, strategy and decisiveness.

True! Am still at a loss as to how they thought that expedition to Lagos, would have given them an edge in the war. The Biafran soldiers would have been wiped out in a matter of hours, once they landed in Lagos! How much ammunition did Banjo have in his kitty en route Lagos, anyway? Did they think the federal forces would have keep quiet in shock, on sighting the Biafran soldiers in their territory?

Ojukwu just wanted to use them as cannon fodder to buy more time for himself in the South-East. That's all!



Your post make sense, die! Even their entry into the old Midwest region was also flawed. The Biafran troops entered Benin and declared the place a "Republic," claiming they had come to liberate the inhabitants. Who told them the people of the old Midwest were in bondage? And this was after Ojukwu had agreed with Ejoor, that 'the Midwest would remain neutral, o!!'

Next, the soldiers went on a looting spree and committed different atrocities against the local populace, which led to those ones fighting back using underground methods. There were reports of Biafran soldiers killing unarmed non-Igbo civilians in Abudu, and other parts of the region. Eventually, the federal forces arrived and put paid to the whole thing. Sadly, the Asaba massacre occurred.

Some folks say, if Biafrans had not occupied the old Midwest, the federal forces would not have entered that region to dislodge them, and the massacre may never have taken place. May God continue to grant the departed souls, eternal rest.

Lagos would actually have gone down,if not for the betray of ifejuana,Alale,Agbam,and the humble victor banjo. The Biafran forces has already captured,Abuchi,igueben,Benin,as stronghold,advancing down ore,now if you don’t understand your history.
The federal army,was actually made of more middle belt infantry men,with the north and east holding on to high ranked position. Especially the east,who where the best experienced then. The yorubas actually had little to no army power. At ore,prior to that point in time,the northern shoulder had already been sent north,and western shoulders in the north down south.

Unluckily the American attaché to Nigeria who was at Umuahia got a transcript of banjo conversation with Awolowo via the British high commission. Banjo withdrew his troops back down to Enugu without firing one shot in the Midwest,not one. Those men where not saving no millions of people,it was all personal interest and vandettas. And posterity did judge them,even the great Awolowo said it in his bio,that he regretted never seceding the mid west.
Most of you look at the war and think it’s ojukwu’s war no it’s wasnt,it’s a people’s war,the Biafran knew their fate was sealed,but would take no more of the redundant stsytem that doesn’t work. I am not surprise form the above post. The coup was never Igbo thing but Nigerian army’s stuff coincidentally led by officers from Igbo extraction. Those who partook in the coup were soldiers who knew the level of rot such nepotistic tendencies will impact on Nigeria army. However, few miscreants in Nigeria turned it into Igbo thing.

1) Biafran rag tag Army will march from Ore at 3am to Lagos unhindered and the FG will just surrender to Biafran forces by 6am.

2) A ceasefire will just be arranged.
If mistakenly, the Biafran forces succeeded in taking Lagos, Ojukwu would simply replaced Gowon as Head of State of Nigeria with first class igbo hegemony.

I have read and re-read a lot of books on events from the first coup to the civil war. Truth be told, whatever situation Nigeria is today is as a result of the events of those periods. Infighting, lack of trust, nepotism etc grew so much within those periods.

Reading accounts from different sources has given me a broad view of these events. If you read widely, one would understand why each party in the war did what they did whether right or wrong. As for me, I have learnt not to blame anyone for their roles in the war. That's why it is called WAR.

I have spoken with elderly ones on both sides of the war. It is not a thing to pray for at all. If there will be a clamor for Biafra, the best way is by nonviolence. It may tarry but it is achieve able.

The "expeditionary" thrust to Lagos via the SW was ab initio ill-conceived. If Ojukwu had stayed put in Biafra, It would have been difficult for Yorubas to enter the war. The war should have been kept simple.

Is that what you were told? What if The trio were actually right, and the ceasefire prevented further carnage? I really find it laughable when you all think taking Lagos meant victory. 3 years down the line..a cease fire was still negotiated. I mean who uses 9 year old kids to prosecute a war.. 'bravery abi? Ojukwu wasn't senior to Ifeajuna, banjo or Nzeogwu. They saw something he stubbornly remained blind to.
The senseless killings of Igbo's post Jan and post July was tragic.But fighting unto death was pure arrogance, when it should've ended 2 years earlier. Ifeajuna, banjo ojukwu and sardauna all of them they all played the game of thrones. Nigeria came out worse. Everybody lost.
