Why would I be campaigning for APCheat for that matter
Simply reminding ourselves of the promises made by the winchious assembly of coven dwellers.

BTW, is there no LIBEL civil charge procedure that a LAWFUL person is supposed to follow? Why involve the police, arrest & detention?
Is lawlessness not the grandfather of CORRUPTION

Nigerians do not really understand the concept of free speech. You cannot just be flinging damaging, unsubstantiated allegations against somebody and then hide behind the principle of free speech. I hope an example is made of this fella so other prats with uncouth mouth will watch themselves

When GEJ allowed all sorts of jabs, accusations, and innuedos against him and his ministers, people thought he was retarded.
Welcome to Buhari 101, first quarter in office.
From Sahara reporters, to paid N/L bloggers, to news manufacturers and cheap political activist, I'll say good morning!

ABEOKUTA—The Ogun State Police Command, Monday, confirmed the arrest of a blogger, Emmanuel Ojo for accusing the wife of the state governor, Mrs Olufunsho Amosun of allegedly laundering $300,000 in London.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, who confirmed the arrest on the telephone, said Ojo is being detained at the command’s headquarters, Eleweran, Abeokuta, for questioning.
Vanguard gathered that Ojo was arrested for a story exposing the alleged quizzing of Ogun State first lady, Mrs Olufunso Amosun, in London for money laundering.
Ojo was said to have been trailed and arrested on Saturday and detained at Ibara Police Station, Abeokuta for wrongly accusing Mrs. Amosun.
She has since denied being involved in any money laundering saga.
Adejobi said the command received a complaint from the state government about the blogger, which led to his arrest.
Adejobi said investigations on the matter are ongoing.
He said, “We received a complaint from the state government on the suspect, and he was arrested. Presently he is with us at Eleweran, we are still conducting our investigations. If he is found wanting he will be charged to court accordingly.”
The Secretary to the State Government, Mr. Taiwo Adeoluwa, said governor Amosun, was not connected with the arrest of the blogger as being speculated in some quarters.
He, however, confirmed that the state government made a formal complaint to the police and the director of the State Security Service, about a false allegation that the blogger made against the First lady.

Newsflash!!! Newsflash!!! Newsflash!!! Newsflash!!! Newsflash!!!
Defamation of character, and or libel, is not a criminal offence. It is a civil one. If it was, every single person on NL, including seun, would be in jail by now.

This is a step in the right direction!

Just because the use of the internet is now virtually free does not mean jobless people can sit in their bedrooms and make up all sorts of stories because they want to direct traffic to their useless blogs.

Nigerians want accountability from their leaders but refuse to do the same in their own affairs.

Just the other day, a notorious illiterate on Nairaland opened a thread falsely accusing the APC of closing his Facebook accounts. In my opinion, he should have been invited by the security agents to provide evidence of his claim.

Freedom of speech is guaranteed by the constitution but also, individuals have to account for their statements if they are false.

Now, a precedent has been set. Hungry bloggers- BEWARE!

And 40 m.orons liked this post. The ignorance of Nigerians is really alarming. Show me where it says that libel/defamation of character is a criminal offence. If you don't know, you should be afraid because at anytime you yourself could be arrested.

I missed GEJ, during his tenure, you can say, write, imagine anything, it is your mouth, nobody will arrest you. You may even be made the chairman of his campaign organisation.

That is the beauty of democracy but now even if your story is true, you will be gagged, intimidated and arrested. I remember decree 2. "....dont publish anything about my government even if it is true" - General Buhari

Change is where there is no freedom of speech; where people are not allowed to associate freely; where people are intimidated for their comments...
A few months ago, people could write anything, say anything, insult the president, insult the president's wife, and the government allowed it as freedom of speech. Today, an ordinary wife of the government is pulling this negative weight?

We asked for it!
Nigeria, welcome CHANGE!

Unfortunately, You are incorrect. That power belongs to the media when it is true... If you are a mass communication student read about the libertitarianism theory; which allows total freedom expression except your freedom infringes that of another person.

Secondly, if his story is false, he can be sued for slander... Sha, even the state government no know their rights

did u read the story at all?
The govt said the govr isnt involved in the arrest but the state govt, abeg who controls the state govt?
Also why send police to go arrest the poor blogger? Why not institute a case against him n sue him for defamation or somethng? This aint right esp now that we r in d era of freedom of speech.

First sensible thing I have read here today. Most comments here are naive, ignorant and just outright juvenile. No matter what anyone writes, he shouldn't be subjected to harassment of any sort. The simple concept of democracy allows everyone to have a say even the most dishonest one. The government has no rights under the constitution to arrest anyone for opinions aired or shared. Government can only sue. Slap a libel suit on the guy or defamation of character. Something so large that the guy will think twice before writing any rubbish again.
If we allow this new trend to persist, we are giving the government a free hand to even arrest and jail the guys with legitimate stories.

People can be bias tho..what if the blogger has a genuine source? undecided
Just threaten the good-for-nothing NPF & OGSG, you will end up being paid to sweep every evidence under the carpet.
These state governors will continue to cart away state funds to foreign accounts leaving the residents in the state to contend with deplorable social infrastructures

How can you arrest someone before conducting your investigation? So if I go to the police and complain that the wife of the governor made a libelous statement against me, will they arrest her?

What evidence has the police to deny the claim that the governor's wife didn't commit the alleged crime. Rather than defend their own, Nigerians often quickly defend the political class that perpetually puts them in penury. Nigeria is irrevocably doomed.

Truly, the guy in question committed a serious offence but is it right to keep him in jail for 3 days?
I am an ardent supporter of Gov Amosun but I will never support the kind of treatment meted on the guy.
The first thing is to charge the guy to court but not the other way round by taking him to court after jailing him.

This should serve as a lesson to some people on social media. The rumour mongers, those that would sit in the comfort of their houses and be cooking stories against their real and imagine enemies.
