Who told you your politicians want you to enjoy these things?

You want them to loose the only thing they have over you?

What were the politicians before they got elected by US into power?
What will they be after office as they will not be there forever, talk less of all members of their family?
Ordinary folks like everyone else, not so

They are only being stewpid mumus like the majority of us by not doing right when they have the opportunity to do so.

Its amazing how we can wish and wish then drop all blames on the government. when the Brt first started in lagos, nurtw kicked against it as being against the interest of drivers of danfo. when government decides to ezpand road to accomodate more traffic, residents petition the courts to give orders of injunctions. when commuters board buses, they encourage the drivers to be lawless "this driver is not sharp, take one way na". Our road users use d roads arbitrarily... you may find a car owner stopping to chit chat wit a pedestrian in d middle of d road, you find people parkng cars illegaly on the road, traders taking chunky spaces from d road to advertise their wares, bus drivers pick passengers at all kinds of stops, drops passengers off in the middle of the road(is d driver alone on this illegality? surely he is in cinnivance wit the passenger). Suggestions exist that sometimes potholes are intentionally created in some roads by road hawkers(gala lacasera chips).

Are our leaders corrupt? undeniably Yes! However, many of these projects cited above are either too lofty at present(the canadian interchange expressways and bridges) or clueless as a new innovation(the new york/dubai cab) we already have cabs y increase d number of vehicles on the road, the netherland bicycle too is not much of anything, the accomodation deficit in lagos means dat people are forced to live very far from work...i couldnt possibly ride bicycle from badagry or sango to ajah or apapa.

surely, the government has a lot to do...but private citizens are not left out of this. Private entrepreneurs can take up d idea of the amphibious buses for instance or ferries, purchase dem and take up license of practice from government...afterall, the government doesnt buy danfo for people, people buy and get licenses afterwards.

we can sit on our butts n criticize all day, i am however certain dat all d projects cited by the op were not projects completed by single regimes. each successive government is however charged to have massive improvements on ifrastructures from what their predecessor managed to accomplish.

This is so educating and at the same time inspiring. Our so called leaders travel alot and they see all these in those countries they go to either on vacation or business or health tourism and they come back home to Nigeria and pretend as if they did not enjoy those facilities abroad. The painful truth is that they prefer to travel to UK, USA, Canada and other developed countries to enjoy this common facilities than bringing it to their home to the same people that stood under the sun for several hours to vote them into power. I am in the opinion that if we can unite as youth and say and demand for our rights, only then can we choose leaders that will put this country first before themselves and develop our great nation nigeria. enough is enough

Will this work?

Imagine having thousands of bikes littering about a hundred bike stations across Lagos or VI. Instead of adding your car to the traffic, you can just stroll to the nearest bike station to your house, pick a bike, cycle to work and drop it off at the nearest bike station to your office. Like that again when you're going home undecided
Not with the bad roads in the country

It does not matter the ideas that you bring, what matters is the mentality of the people you are bringing it to. You and i both know all these ideas won't work until Nigerians change their mentality.

3. Seperate truck lanes will reduce accidents, trucks/containers falling on cars.
Those trucks in that photo are on the last lane NOT because they have a separate lane, but because they are following traffic rules by driving on the slow lane (unlike in Nigeria where madmen without proper training in driving trucks, and high on weed and all kinds of banned substances insist on driving dilapidated trucks on the fast lane). You have not addressed the real issue; which I just mentioned in bracket.

The ones in charge have all travelled....and even if not looking... have seen the major mass transit systems in operation... and without thinking... would know which would be most effective in Lagos. Why not try to implement at least one?..... because they don't have the will to..... and more importantly.... whether they do or not... the masses would vote them back in office. They are not held accountable for their inactions. When voters can see past party, tribal or religious lines and unite to force or vote the parasites out of office we will begin to see the introduction of mass transit systems in Lagos.

SOLUTION TO TRAFFIC IN VI,
Short term solution, Ambode should immediately buy 100 new buses that would be entering VI and Lekki .Then discourage car owners driving into this area .This can be achieved by taxing all car owners say 100k monthly if you must drive your your car in these areas. He would have provided 200 direct jobs and about 400 indirect jobs whilst increasing the man hours and productivity of companies operating in the area .

let be reasonable and be honest all this will not work in Nigeria because we can't produce anything of ours. so how can you maintain what you can't produce. The government know that so all they can do is kill the system and collect as much money as they can and after travelled to live in those countries.
1. Everybody don't care for his next brother or sister but those country is very important to care.
2. Our major problem of traffic is caused by police.
3. let start producing something or more try to maintain things than throwing them away.
4. Put more brt on the road with air condition and at fair price. And make it work by employing good people to maintain them in Nigeria.

Lagos, Nigeria’s port and commercial center, is notorious for its chronic traffic congestions and terrible accidents. Lagos is the only city of its size in the world that doesn’t have a city-wide rail system. That’s 15 to 21 million people (no one knows exactly how many) who are forced to commute by road only everyday. Exposing motorists, passengers/pedestrians to long hours of heat and inhalation of harmful vehicle emissions.
cc: : Afam4eva,OAM4J,dominique

Lagos state's is seriously under heavy infrastructure deficit when it comes to transportation sector. The state is loosing huge millions of naira as a result of everyday gridlock and unorganized traffic congestion. A city-wide railway system is the way out, while successive governments continues with the project regardless of political affiliations. We lack true patriots in this generation, our population is growing geometrically while infrastructure is growing arithmetically.

Combined strategies and efforts should be explored to give people some relief. Cable car system is also another alternative, ferry services should commence from oworonshoki to VI/IKOYI/IKORODU and other water ways. Transportation is as important as good health system, bad transportation network subjects people to stress and subsequently health problems.

APC needs to be more proactive about transportation in Lagos, open a public forum and let people express their views on the way out.

Thank you.

And you think the clowns in government don't already know these options? They just refuse to implement these things.Look at the Lagos Metroline project, although laudable, why award it to CCECC?Its sad 9ija can't plan for d future and until urban and regional planners are taken seriously in infrastructural planning,we shall remain where we are.Which is,governments hailing themselves for rehabilitating or constructing "2 or 3" lane inter or intra state roads that could pass for county roads in developed countries.Imagine Lagos to Asaba can only be done via dual carriage?Big shame!!!

We can't have those infrastructure in Nigeria. It simply is not possible. You could blame the government all you want, however most in the government were once ordinary citizens. The government is a reflection of the citizenry.

Nigerians are short-sighted, have zero maintenance culture, and have chronic Alzheimers.

We do not have the discipline or know-how to plan effectively, we do not have the capacity to follow a plan even if we had one. Then what about the markup in price that can inflate the cost of a project from as low as twice the price to as high as a dozen times the price. N170m was used to build a borehole I remember. And that's where the borehole was constructed. In some cases, the same amount of money will be used to construct an artificial reservoir to collect rain water. In the worst scenario, no project will be done.

Now if any of those happened, there is zero accountability. If any one were to be convicted then all of it is politically motivated, how else is Ibori in jail and Tinubu is not?

Even if we were to get the project going, how are we sure sub-standard materials and personnel will not be used? Our roads are a good example of what I mean. Going further, do Nigerians have a maintenance culture? When last was the Third Mainland Bridge closed for maintenance (The answer is Never)? So what makes you think we would start with those mega road networks.

Our politicians travel, heck even the citizenry do. We are amazed by what we see outside. And you ask why not they replicate those stuff here? How about we replicate following simple traffic rules for a start? Do you adorn pigs with precious stones? How is it that a typical Nigerian will not litter Shoprite with the packaging of their sweet, but will litter sachet water packaging in the local open-air market?

You see, Nigerians like to blame everyone other than themselves for their predicaments. The government, another tribe, their kins in the village. Keep the blame games going while everyone else is moving forward.

If the perpetual traffic gridlock in Lagos were stabilized (note not eliminated, Manhattan, Beijing still experience traffic gridlock for several minutes at a time), Lagos will be the fastest growing local economy in Nigeria.

All Lagos state needs is to dredge the waterways, open up the water channels.
1. Build more jetties along Iyana Oworoshoki, Ogudu, Ketu, Magodo, Kara
2. Partner with Ogun state government to build a huge jetty @ kara /Berger
3. Government should give investors in Ferry business zero tax to encourage the venture and allow them bring in more ferries either by their company or govt/venture partnership
4. Build car parks that can contain 2000-10000 cars with the available land to allow workers drive in to in the morning then drive out @ end of day
5. People living @ iyana ipaja, alagbado, agege, ogba and rest can drive to Kara park their cars and queue for tickets and enter the ferry to Island
6. Ikosi, Magodo can drive to thier jetty as well, likewise Alapere drive to Ogudu while Gbagada, Anthony & Oshodi can catch thier ferry @ oworo these will drop the traffic on the route
7. With all process in place, introduce daily drive congestion tax within Lagos it can be as high as 50-100k to drive to Island..

Haven't lived in England for some years and travelled around Europe. There are a lot of transport systems that can remove traffic congestion in Lagos but will they invest in it? I doubt it. Lemme mention a few to add to the OP's own. Cable Car system, Tram system, Ferry with the ones the OP mentioned Overground and Underground train even though it will take so long and massive investment in building underground tunnels and stations. The power sector is still bad so alot of these projects is not sustainable. The bottomline is that these idiots in govt have to stop stealing money and invest in massive infrastructure and planning. Try checking out transport for London( tfl.gov.uk) and see how a good city transport system is planned.

Non of those ideas will ever work in Nigeria until we change our attitude and mindset. its not just govt. what about the people? the few flyovers we have in Lagos are living apartments for area boys, stinking with human waste littered around. talking of infrastructure, do we have maintenance culture in our DNA? the day we even start using bicycles, one hustler will arrange to steal them from where they are parked. After all a ship got missing in a shipyard here in Nigeria. For Lagos to work, it has to be planned and rebuilt. Lagos has no plan! Can you compare the attitude of the foreigners you've seen with Nigerians?

Serious! Learning to drive entails more than just kickstarting a vehicle and driving off like you guys do in Nigeria which happens to be the major cause of road accidents. Untrained deivers.

The major cause of traffic jams are bad roads. There cannot be traffic flows with those ditches filled roads slowing down vehicles, with hardly any traffic lights and regulations of any kind. I don't think we have one third of the cars that plies London or new york roads everyday in Lagos, yet they manage to be puntual.
