I think it takes longer days in reference to earth for venus to rotate on its axis than it takes it to revolve around the sun along its orbit |
Re: Only A Genius Can Interpret This (photo) by Nobody: 6:58pm On Oct 01, 2015 |
Very easy Venus is closer to the sun and it rotates slowly, it's the only planet in the solar system that rotates clockwise meaning that the sun rises from west and sets in east unlike earth that rotates anti clockwise. So it takes Venus 224.7 days to complete one revolution or a year. But 243 days of the earth is equal to a day in Venus. |

Just to add my own idea! As a student of geology, the scientific mumbo jumbo may be too much, so aptly put! Venus is the second closest to the sun which makes it receive substantial amount of sunlight before the earth...in view of this, the amount of dark hours is considerably less as compared to earth(12hrs dark and 12hrs light). A day on venus is hence longer than a day on earth due to its closeness to d sun! |

mohemos:Maybe it takes longer to rotate along its axis than around the sun. Make una no fight me o! |

Whereas earth takes 24 hours to rotate on its axis which is called one day, and 365 days to orbit the sun which is called one year. Venus on the other hand is very slow in rotating on its axis. It takes venus our own 243 days to rotate on its axis. In other words it will take our 243 days to make a day on venus. However, venus takes 225 days to orbit the sun which will make a year. Simply put if you celebrate January 1, 2015 on Venus before the sun goes down and you get to January 2, 2015 , a year of 225 days would have been completed. In fact by the time you wake up from your sleep it is already another year, 2016. In addition venus rotates backward. Mystery of God. 1 Like |

seyitanhep: Very correct. I didn't have the figures but figured it meant that. At the time of completing an orbit, it is yet to complete a rotation around its axis. Note that it is closer to the Sun after Mars (hence completes an orbit in less than 365 days). Must be way larger than earth too since it takes so long to complete its spin. |

that's cool then! On my way to Venus. At least I get to have daylight for 131.5 days, approx 132 days and nightfall for 131.5. I think I'll shuttle back to earth before nightfall, cos having night for 132 days is pretty scary. Think am nah! |

It takes less time for Venus to revolve around the Sun as it's orbit is closer to the sun compared to the Earth. Compared to this, it takes much longer to the planet to rotate along its own axis. |

Re: Only A Genius Can Interpret This (photo) by Nobody: 8:11pm On Oct 01, 2015 |
A day is the result of a planet's rotation about its axis, while a year is the result of a planet revolving around the sun. So for a day on Venus to be longer than a year on Venus, it implies that its takes longer for Venus to rotate about its axis than its takes to revolve around the sun. |
Re: Only A Genius Can Interpret This (photo) by ADAMUdaCOWBOY: 8:16pm On Oct 01, 2015 |
mohemos:It simply means Venus completes a movement round its orbit before it completes a movement about its axis |

a day means a planet spins on is own axis, while a year meas the planet rotates around the sun.... so it is possible that it takes longer for venus to spin on itsown axis than to make a complete 360 distance around the sun. |
Re: Only A Genius Can Interpret This (photo) by Nobody: 8:46pm On Oct 01, 2015 |
"my 1 kobo". A day is longer than a year in venus because the planet is very close to the sun. There is always day in venus because no darkness no matter the rotation but a year comes while we are still in day. |
