Plateau Govt “deports” Fulani by ELNAFATY1: 8:21pm On May 07, 2009
The Plateau State Government has started "deporting" some Fulani nomads in Bashar District of Wase Local Government Area of the state to their "various states of origin",

Some Fulani nomads were allegedly arrested in five different villages in the district, including Yuli, Bumyun, Sabon Gari, Zak and Kampanin Zerak and deported from the state. The Deputy Head of Yuli Village, Malam Haladu Adama confirmed the deportation to Daily Trust. He said ""on the morning of April 27, we saw some armed security men, some in uniforms while some were in mufti, they told us that they came to arrest and deport some Fulani people who migrated to the district because they have not sought the permission of the state government before they entered the state. They told us that it was an order from the above so we assigned a guide to them because the Fulanis generally live deep inside the bush".

According to a reliable source who spoke under anonymity, the deportation operation was jointly implemented by the operatives of the State security service (SSS), Army, Police, and Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corp (NSCDC) who went to the villages in three armoured tanks and 15 trucks .
When contacted on the matter, the Special Adviser on Media and Public Affairs to Governor Jonah Jang, Mr Dan Manjang said the state government was aware of the deportations in Wase, stressing that the evacuated Fulanis in the district were not known to be residents in Wase.

"They are alien to the environment because they migrated from somewhere, that is, they are not known to be residents in Wase, therefore, they lack the minimum requirements, one needs to have to acquire a land there".

He explained that the deportation of the Fulanis in the area was carried out by the Wase Local Government and not the state government.

"Their evacuation was carried out by the Wase LGC not the Plateau State Government because we have been in touch with them", he said.

Efforts to speak with the Wase Local Government Chairman, Alhaji Abubakar Muhammad Bado proved abortive fruitless as he neither answer picked his calls nor responded to the text message sent to him as at the time of filing this report.
However, the Nigerian Army has denied its direct involvement in the matter.

The Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, 3rd Armoured Division in Jos, Lieutenant Colonel G.J. Shekari said that the Fulanis are Internally Displaced Persons (IDP’s) who were repatriated to different places where they came from under the supervision of the state government and Wase LGC emphasizing that "The army were only there to ensure that the repatriation is done peacefully, not that we were directly involved".
Meanwhile, in a letter addressed to the Plateau State Director of State Security Service which was made available to Daily Trust, the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria, Plateau state chapter (MACBAN) has condemned the action, describing it as "barbaric and primitive" .

"We consider this barbaric and primitive means of chasing away Nigerians from any part of Nigeria as peace-breaching action that cannot be tolerated today in the world, especially Plateau state which is barely struggling to recover from the November 28th crisis", it said.

The Chairman of the association, Malam Muhammad Nuru who signed the letter alleged that the ejection was planned by the state government in conjunction with Wase Local Government.

"This unconstitutional and criminal action was hatched and authorized by the Plateau state Government in concord with Wase Local Government without any justifiable reason other than these people are Fulanis and Muslims and therefore not wanted in Plateau state", he said.

IT seems the FG. is afraid of Plateau state Govt. or so, they just try to initiate things and do what they feel like. If that will continue then all the people in Nig. should go back to their origin and not that only the Nomads dont have their Host community also.

There definitely seems to be something covert about this action that was carried about the WASE LGA
WASE LGA is dominated by Muslims, so this action to me would not be solely undertaken by them alone

Fulani are trouble makers, they let their cattle graze on peoples farm lands, try to stop them and the will come out with their bows and arrows to fight. And the ones that are not into cattle are now armed robbers, yes even the beloved Fulani are now into rubbery.

If you don't believe me, try and travel from Kaduna to Minna at night. There is this isolated area I can't remember the name now where Fulani men would wait and rob any passing vehicle.

They all need to be deported back to Niger and Chad, I know the nomads. but they need to go.
