I was wondering why is it that some of our leaders know the right things according to Sharia, The Quran and the hadiths but they still sideline females.

Re: Sisters Discuss Issues And Questions Here Relating To Feminity And Islam. by Lagosboy: 12:03pm On May 21, 2009
Sidelining of females i will say is more of a cultutral thing and depends in the part of the world we are talking about. I could be wrong but i know in Malaysia the females are involved in almost many things and in islamic activiites they involve them and their opinion counts well.

In Saudi it is their culture to relegate women to the background and sideline them and not islam. In africa i think it is mixed in some places women are not sidelined but it some areas they are.

But could you expantiate on the kind of sidelining we are talking about here.
Re: Sisters Discuss Issues And Questions Here Relating To Feminity And Islam. by mukina2: 12:38pm On May 21, 2009
Thing is when you try to tell people to separate religion from cultural practices they tend to ignore, tel lyou are being disrespectful, tell you its what their religion says, because that is not what Islam says, and some go as far as creating new rules/laws that are not even in  the Quran.

The fact that most men feel its not Islamic for a woman to start her own thing, some believe once they are married, a Muslim woman should not earn her own money, she should stay at home as the housewife, rear and take care of the kids. Dont get me wrong here, there is nothing wrong/bad in being a housewife but i want to believe that if a woman got as far as a university, got her degrees and is qualified to work why stop her? why create mix culture with Islam when it comes to the female folk?

Most girls get taken out of school as soon as they attain puberty. forced into marriage, beaten or in some extreme cases killed if they attempt to disgree, even though these are clearly cultural why mix it with islam? angry women are not like basic commodity. we are equal to men in all spheres of life, why misinterpret all this, when the religion speaks for equality for both sexes?

Mostly the male child is favoured to the female one.

Religion has become completely interwoven with culture and morals.nearly. . .infact all religions treat women as inferior species and oppresses them.just looj at creation stories of different religions, the man is always created first and superior and always given all the responsibilities. . . .islam is not alone in suppresing women.
The only solution here is for women to campaign for their rights and try to change societal attitudes
Re: Sisters Discuss Issues And Questions Here Relating To Feminity And Islam. by Lagosboy: 9:58am On May 22, 2009
Mukinah

you are right and it is unfortunate. A wife not workig depends on the Understanding between the wife and the husband. It is not forbidden for a woman to work and in fact whatever money she earns belongs to her as it is the responsibility of the husband to look after her right from the ribbons on her hair to the polishing of the nails on her toes. That is islam !!! Women have been exploited by every single culture and this will always remain I guess. However muslim women should not go along with the western style women liberation as it is just a recipe for societal and marital coolapse as we see in the western world. Muslim women shoul look inwards into islam and realise the abundant rights they have !!! Knowledge is power and knowledge is light!!

We are all equal before Allah ta'ala and what differentiates us is our taqwa!!! In many verses of the quran Allah elevates men he also elevated women Surah 33 v35 Inna li muslimina wa muslimat, wal muminina wa muminat, wa qanitini wa qanitat … . . . ( The Muslim men and women, the believers men and women, the obedient men and women, the truthful men and women, the patient men and women, the humble men and women . . . . ) This is just to emphasise that men are not superior to women in any form before Allah and spiritually as well.

Having said this , one must realise that in every aspect or organistion on earth a leader is always required. The home as well requires a leader and (note I haven’t said a boss) man is the natural leader of the home in every single culture. In Britain of the 40’s 50’s women never use to really work and they will make tea for their husbands look after the children and so on. Hoever men should never exploit this position and fear God in the dealings as the quran has stressed.

Women played a significant role in the time of the prophet PBUH , they will treat the injured during battles , feed the army, some even fought side by side the prophet and a woman of repute may Allah be pleased with her stood her ground at the battle of Uhud when men ran away she stood by the prophet and defended him. Nasiba was her name the princess of strength and heart of a rock. Women are our mothers , sisters . Educate a woman you educate a nation. The prophet said whoever brings up his daughter in a pious way till maturity will be next to me in jannah. Such is the importance of our beloved sisters in the ummah. May Allah bless them all!!!

Cuntries like Saudi Arabia have expoited women and that is a fact based on some strange interpretations of the quran. Women cannot drive which has no bloody basis in islam. Women cannot go shopping alone which has basis in islam as she isn’t travelling, some women are forced to use the niqaab which isn’t compulsory of all women and so on. The positive and good thing though is their women attend good universities and highly educated and some of them work which is good unlike in south asia where some groups don’t allow women attend western education which is a shame.

Question Number 2,

Why are divorced or single women discriminated angry
Re: Sisters Discuss Issues And Questions Here Relating To Feminity And Islam. by Lagosboy: 2:14pm On May 22, 2009
@Abuzola

Seriously speaking some aspect of the saudi society as regards conservatism towards women have no basis in islam. Banning women from driving is not only shameful but absolutely no basis. The notion that a woman cannot answer the telephone is also another aspect i find stange as aisha RA used to teach men after the demise of the prophet AS.

Aisha rode on horses and she rode on Camel. During the unfortunate incident of the battle of jamal Aisha rode on a camel and Ali RA escorted her back to her home in Medinah. If women could rideon those means of transportation then why not now.

The issue of mahram relates to travelling and not a woman not been able to go shopping alone. How do we explain single women that fought in battles with the prophet.

I have been to arab world , i have loads of arab friends. The issue of visiting your friend and the wife guarded away and not been able to serve guests has no real basis in islam as even the bride served guests on her wedding day in the time of the prophet as recorded in hadiths. I could go on and on. The khalaiji cutlture is conservavtive and people have taken this to be of islam.
