oglalasioux: You would be surprised that it is those of them with 'humble beginning ' who keep those at the lower rung of the ladder at arms length the most. Majority of them would become so engrossed in amassing wealth that they forget to spare a thought for their people 'on the other side' ...and while we are at it,dont you think it is not too good that it took the governor a 2nd term to visit that school and 'lay' on that bug invested mattress? Not talking about him in particular now,but it is a shame that our schools are now a shadow of what they were.Government at all levels no longer care. Dormitories in those days had well laid beds in decent environment. Every sector now begs for attention. Wonder what they now govern. |

anonimi: The mattresses should be given to the students as personal properties if the government/school is responsible for the supply or the school should put it in student's prospectus for the parents to supply each for their wards. In the event of mismanagement or damage, the student should be made to replace his/hers. Nigerians are not ready to care for or maintain public properties 1 Like |

karashita:You've got a sound point. But for your other observations, do you know that a hostel supposed to serve students are vandalized by the same students? I schooled in a boarding school and I've witnessed students doing that with the reason that government will provide another one. Our lack of maintenance culture is very appalling and we'll blame government for it. Most of the infrastructure in Nigeria are stronger and better than the ones in South Africa but they maintain theirs while we vandalize ours. Don't be surprised to learn that the hostel Al Makura was inspecting was built and furnished 5 years ago. |

Couples who don't have the means to take good care of children should never be allowed to have any until they can prove that they can provide for their feeding, accommodation, education and health. Parents who cannot provide good beds for their children at home and school hostel are idiots. |

There is no good governor in nigeria. Good governor should be able to generate substantial part of their annual budget. |

... and this made the fp? who is the administrator? Lying-- present participle of lie(an intentionally false statement) Lay- past tense of lie ((of a person or animal) be in or assume a horizontal or resting position on a supporting surface) and we brag about our grammar in Nigeria. oglalasioux: Hmmmm. This is a new one on me-that students would deliberately vandalise infrastructure to make government replace them? If truly that is the case, then the students must be made to pay for a replacement or at least be made to make some payment. That is a bad trait that must be curbed. I have a sister who would make her kids pay for wasted gas, even soap, from their pocket money. She would tell me that would teach them to not be wasteful.Haba. I agree totally that we lack maintenance culture in this country.Wonder when people will understand that the resources are no longer there to be wasted and that by being wasteful or destructive, they get to bear the brunt. 1 Like |

TheophilusA:I understand the need for the publicity stunt but what he's doing is just plain dirty. The mattress is already used way past it's intended date, and as it stands looks like a health hazard. Besides, the background of the room also looks very filthy and I wonder how humans live is such an environment. Why are Nigerians so dirty? |
