Yes. There has been so much buzz about this as the on going construction of the Lekki refinery by Dangote has put a strain on the traffic there

Another one is going to be built in Agege.

Lets hope it goes well

Nice.

Hope they won't keep moving this thread the way they moved the last one.

This flyover has generated major buzz. Wish they would include Jakande roundabout especially with Shoprite coming there and the block of shops on the other side.

but they need to reduce size of those roundabout immediately, they are chokes. flyovers will be great, but people will go thru hell before completion in 18 months.

there is effort ongoing on facebook too for the lekki axis, you can join us.

Lagos states govt approves flyover bridge for Ajah, Abule Egba
December 13, 2015 at 4:18 pm

The Lagos State Government has approved the construction of flyover bridges for two of the State’s high-density traffic zones – Ajah round about and Abule Egba junction.
The two major projects were approved by the State’s Executive Council and have been duly awarded to contractors for a speedy commencement of work.
In a statement, Sunday, by the State’s Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Steve Ayorinde, the projects will be completed within 16 months as part of Governor Akinwunmi Ambode’s ongoing road infrastructure projects across the state.

The statement said the construction
construction of the reinforced concrete flyover and signalized intersection at Ajah roundabout will be undertaken
simultaneously with the rehabilitation of Freedom Road in Lekki, with a view to reducing the heavy traffic being recorded at the Ajah round-about and the Lekki-Ikoyi axis.

Ayorinde said the Ajah flyover bridge will have a solar-powered signalized intersection in order to greatly improve traffic, while the upgrade of Freedom Road is expected to ease traffic considerably for vehicles using the Third Roundabout to connect Lekki through Admiralty way.

While the Ajah project will ease movement of residents and commuters on the Lagos Island – Ibeju Lekki areas, the construction of the reinforced concrete dual-carriage flyover bridge at Abule Egba junction will equally bring joy and relief to millions of commuters that use the Lagos -Abeokuta Expressway in Ifako-Ijaye Local Government Area of the State on a daily basis when completed.

Like the Ajah project, Ayorinde said the Abule Egba flyover bridge will also have signalised intersection under it to service Oko-Oba and other link roads within the axis.

To underscore its commitment to road infrastructure development that seeks to touch every area of the State that may have been inadvertently left behind, Ayorinde said that the State government has also awarded contracts for the rehabilitation and upgrade of strategic arterial/inner roads in Epe Local Government Area of the State.
While noting that Epe division of the State is currently undergoing rapid industrial and commercial growth arising from the commencement of developmental projects such as oil refinery, air and sea ports as well as citing of various industries within the Lekki Free Trade Zones (LFTZ), the Commissioner said a massive upgrade of strategic roads within the Epe division had become necessary.

According to him, some of the areas to be rehabilitated and upgraded in Epe include Lagos Road, Prof. Agbalajobi Road, Awolowo Road (Marine Police/Oke Oyinbo – Hamarun); as well as network of roads in Oloja Estate, Araga Road and Oke Osho junction –Itokin, among others.

The Commissioner said the newly awarded road contracts are coming on the heels of several other projects being constructed by the Ambode administration through the Ministry of Works and Infrastructure, some of which are either completed or nearing completion.

He listed areas such as Brown Street in Oshodi, Ago Palace Way in Okota as well as Okota-Century road, Ijegun -Igando Road, Ayobo-Ipaja Road, Okesuna Street, Shomolu and Coker-Aguda Road in Surulere, as among projects at various stages of advance work.

He said as at last weekend, more than 300 roads have been repaired and rehabilitated through the Lagos State Public Works Corporation (LSPWC)’s ceaseless road maintenance that has left no local government area unattended to.

In line with the government’s zero tolerance for potholes, Ayorinde said another hundred roads have been earmarked for repairs before the new year to underscore Governor Ambode’s top priority to ensure motorable roads and infrastructural development across the State.

Hello everybody. I'm happy to see everybody again (this should be season 4 or 5, right?).

I'm particularly happy that they are finally going to fix Freedom Way. They also need to fix Hakeem Dickson Street. There are always humongous traffic jams on Durosimi-Etti, Omorinre Johnson and Oladimeji Alo streets in the mornings and evenings because of the bad portions on Freedom Way and Hakeem Dickson (they will need to build a new gate on Hakeem Dickson Street).

Governor Fashola had promised to repair Freedom Way when he commissioned the Lekki-Ikoyi. They dredged the canal, constructed trapezoid concrete walls at the edges of the canal and dismantled the shanties that had been erected on the road and the canal, but work stopped just before the elections. I'm happy that they are going to complete it.

I wonder why they cannot increase the size of the roads at the roundabouts. It acts as a funnel and thus causes more traffic. Ambode should also build a flyover for Jakande roundabout as Shoprite is about to open and there are shops on the other side as well that will soon open. The place already has enough traffic.

Freedom Way was meant to be a dual carriageway road, but they never actually completed the back end of the road (the section from Abimbola Cole Street to the lagoon). That portion of the road had become a single carriageway road (2 lanes instead of 4) because the second carriageway had been taken over by dirt, plants and shacks. In fact, it was difficult for cars to pass the lone carriageway because half the road had been taken over by traders.

Governor Fashola promised to fix Freedom Way, Glover Road, Thompson Street, etc when he commissioned the Lekki-Ikoyi Link Bridge in 2013. This was so that traffic from the bridge would be dispersed through these roads (the idea was that people from the mainland and Lagos Island could bypass the traffic on Victoria Island and part of the expressway by taking Glover Road → Lekki-Ikoyi Bridge → Admiralty Way and then to the Lekki Expressway via the third roundabout).

The fact that the stretch of road from the end of Admiralty Way to the beginning of Freedom Way is bad has led to massive traffic jams on Bisola Durosimi-Etti Drive, Omorinre Johnson Street, Oladimeji Alo Street, Fola Osibo Street and Hakeem Dickson Street as people try to avoid the bad road.

All the roads on the Ikoyi side that he said that he would fix have been fixed, but Freedom Way was not completed. They came and fixed the canal beside Freedom Way. They dredged it and built concrete sides to prevent siltation (the canal walls were previously made of earth) and they chased away the traders that blocked the road, but they never got round to fixing the road itself before the elections.

It was announced (a week ago) that the government was going to fix Freedom Way and construct a flyover at Ajah. I hadn't been to the junction of Freedom Way and Admiralty Way in about 4 months, but I decided to go there to take pictures of the place before construction starts (I had planned to take before and after pictures.

I was shocked when I got there today. They had already started construction. In fact they had actually gone far. It appears that they are also going to reconstruct the back end of Admiralty Way. Four years ago that place looked like two rivers flowing side by side, separated by a thin strip of land (the road median). The residents association reconstructed the road using interlocking paving stones, but they didn't do a good job and the surface of that stretch of road is uneven.

Billboard.

Freedom Way (heading towards the third roundabout on the Lekki Expressway). It's now a dual carriageway.

The section towards the lagoon has not been completed.

Pedestrian walkway.

They need to clear the canal again (it's filled with weeds).

Urgent - Ajah Flyover Construction: Diversion commences

Good morning all.

The Lagos State Government through the Contractor Messrs. Hitech Construction Company Ltd has commenced the construction of Ajah Reinforced Concrete Flyover. This Bridge on completion will alleviate the traffic gridlocks been experienced by motorists in Ajah and its environs.

Vehicular movements in and around Ajah roundabout will henceforth be disallowed from Tuesday 7th June, 2016.

As part of the Traffic Management Strategies to minimise the effects of the closure on motorists during the construction period,
the following diversion/alternative roads are available for use;

1. Main Diversion/By-pass: The newly constructed 2-lane dual carriageway running between the existing carriageway of the Eti-Osa/Lekki/Epe Expressway and the fence of Royal Garden Estate shall serve as the main diversion in both directions.

2. Alternative Routes Outward Lekki Scheme 1 Inward Ajah Roundabout:

i. Turn off Eti-Osa/Lekki/Epe Expressway at Ilaje bus-stop, onto Mobil Road to connect the road network within Lekki Scheme II to Ogombo Road and return to the Expressway at Abraham Adesanya roundabout.

ii. Turn off at Ikota 1st Gate Bus Stop onto Gbola Gas Road after Mega Chicken to link Mobil Road, connect the road network within Lekki Scheme II to Ogombo Road and return to the Expressway at Abraham Adesanya roundabout.

3. Alternative Routes Outward Abraham Adesanya Estate Inward Ajah Roundabout:

i. Turn off Thomas Estate Road to Kemfat Road after Ajiwe Police Station onto Modupe Young Street to connect Ado-Badore Road.

ii. Turn off St. Gregory Road beside PHCN Substation onto Modupe Young Street to link Ado-Badore Road.

4. Alternative Routes Outward Ado-Badore Road Inward Ajah Roundabout:

i. Turn off Ado-Badore Road to link Market/Ayetoro Road and connect Eti-Osa/Lekki/Epe Expressway at Berger Bus Stop/Ikota junction.

They have resurfaced much of Admiralty Way, from Freedom Way to the roundabout before the bridge. They are resurfacing it with interlocking paving stones. The work is being done in sections.
They are also rebuilding the little bridge over the canal at the junction of Freedom Way and Admiralty Way, so motorists have to do a u-turn and take Emmanuel Abimbola Cole Street to get to Admiralty Way from Freedom Way.

This reconstruction is needed, particularly at the section between Ebeano and Freedom Way (Ebeano-Cold Stone - Laura Ikeji - Nepa - Nitel) which has been in bad shape for years.

However, there's a potential problem. They've reconstructed the road in such a way that it is much higher than the sidewalk, so some motorists are now using the sidewalk as an extra lane, thereby endangering pedestrians. The walkway used to be much higher than the road.

I'll try and take pictures later today.

THREE MORE ROUNDABOUTS TO BE REMOVED IN LEKKI NEXT WEEK – AMBODE

…Says Ajah Flyover Ready By May

Lagos State Governor, Mr Akinwunmi Ambode on Wednesday assured that his administration will complete the ongoing construction of Ajah Flyover by the end of May 2017, just as he revealed the plans of government to remove three more roundabouts in Lekki-Ajah corridor to ease vehicular movement.

Governor Ambode, who spoke at Lagos House in Ikeja when he received the management of Chevron Nigeria Limited led by its Chairman and Managing Director, Mr. Jeffrey Ewing, said the roundabouts would be removed starting from next week, adding that the action was in line with the resolve of government to totally eliminate traffic in the axis.

The affected roundabouts, according to Governor Ambode, are Igbo Efon, Chevron and Third Roundabout.

He said since assumption of office, his administration had tried as much as possible to improve on the business environment, and assured that government would continue to invest in security and infrastructure to make life comfortable for residents and investors.

“We have tried to improve services within the State and the area of operation of Chevron which is the Lekki axis is not left out. Few weeks back, we improved on the traffic management towards that axis and we believe that the move would also enhance productivity of the people.

“I also like to use this opportunity to say that because of the impact that we have seen in the elimination of roundabouts in the Lekki axis, we have actually approved another exercise and starting from next week, we will commence the elimination of additional three roundabouts in the axis most especially Chevron, Igbo Efon and Third Roundabout. We believe doing that will totally eliminate traffic in that axis and we hope to also open the Ajah Flyover before the end of May,” Governor Ambode said.

He noted that the essence of government is to create the enabling environment for businesses to thrive, assuring that he would continue to do his best to provide safe and sound environment.

“Security will be improved upon; we don’t think we have gotten to the ideal state but we will continue to expend resources efficiently on security to ensure that the businesses that come to Lagos and the ones existing in Lagos will continue to thrive,” he said.

Besides, Governor Ambode commended Chevron Nigeria for provision of jobs for people in the State, sound Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), as well as being dutiful in the payment of taxes, and expressed readiness to partner with the organization in the interest of the people.

Earlier, Ewing said he was at Lagos House to further advance the partnership that had existed between Chevron and Lagos State, saying that the organization has had a robust relationship with the State for over five decades.

Ewing particularly noted the significant improvement that the present administration in the State had carried out in various sectors of the economy such as road construction, investment in security and education, among others.

He particularly expressed willingness of Chevron to scale up partnership with the State Government in terms of CSR especially on healthcare delivery, education, among others.

I think work on the bridges has only been suspended for emphasis to be put on the road itself.

In all, I commend Gov. Ambode.

The intention of creating the thread is to keep people abreast of developments in the lekki axis.

A lot of developments in the area are driven by the actions of the Lagos State goverment.

For instance, the removal of roundabouts on the expressway, construction of Ajah bridge and other developments at the deep sea port, free trade zone, etc are government-related (read that as politics).

Current and prospective residents and business owners find information shared on the thread timely and useful.

Keeping the thread in the politics section will reach a broad set of people (those interested in govt policies/actions, property, business and even travel).

The two threads in question are definitely not related to politics. Should I move them to the Property section?

I would like to appeal to our mods (justwise, Disguy and oga at the top seun) to move the thread to politics where it would be useful to the greater number of people.

johnie:
Dear Seun,

I understand the need to revive the business/money section but I don't think that would be achieved by moving active threads with many posts there.
embarassed
That only disorientates the followers of such threads making it difficult to follow up on the threads.

What I think ought to be done is to ensure that threads are moved to the appropriate sections as soon ( or soon after) as they are created.

I agree that the politics sections have become the favourite posting section for most people as the sections is probably the most active and so a thread there not matter how remotely related to poliitcs is likely to get wider attention and that this needs to be curtailed.

I implore you to return the threads I have mentioned back to the politics section as they are more relevant there.

I have also observed that rather than make posts to update existing threads, quite a number of NLanders prefer to start up their own threads. This, to me, not only creates duplications of threads delaing with the same issue but makes it difficult to follow up on issues raised in the threads. I think you need to address this in conjunction with the moderators.

Meanwhile, please restore these two threads back to the politics section where they belong.

Thank you and keep up the good work.
