To many discerning minds and keen watchers of Nigerian politics, unfolding events in Buhari's six-month presidency have further accentuated the pertinent need to subject our politicians to detailed scrutiny before entrusting them with machineries of government. In advanced democracies, aspiring politicians and public office seekers are subjected to strict and detailed personal pedigree assessment as a prerequisite for leadership and political appointments. However, in Nigeria's case, emphasis is mostly placed on politicians' power of eloquence, oration and ability to convince audiences with unending promises(no matter how unrealistic and unattainable they are). This brings our minds back to the numerous aspersions cast on the PDP led Federal Govt under former President Jonathan and derogatory statements made by prominent APC stalwarts including Fashola in the rundown to 2015 elections. The former Lagos State henchman was recorded at many fora labelling Jonathan's 6-year administration as a sublime waste. For him and other APC leaders, nothing was worthy of been mentioned as a positive achievement in the last four years.
However, during Fashola's maiden ministerial briefing while unveiling his 2016 Power and Works roadmap, listed amongst his targets for 2016 fiscal year were the following;

1. Continuation of ongoing Road Constructions nationwide. No new project will be embarked upon in 2016.

2. Continuation of the previous govt Power privatisation programmes.

3. Reintroduction of Toll Gates nationwide.

Now, let's have a deep reasoning and dissect above Fashola cum APC tripod targets.

a. If indeed Jonathan and PDP's six-year rule was a monumental failure as Fashola and APC made us to believe, who initiated the road projects he and his party now wants to complete in 2016?
Why can't APC lunch new nationwide road network initiative other than tapping on existing framework?

b. Nigerians expect Buhari's adminstration to introduce a clearcut new policy on Power reform going by how they tagged PDP's power reforms as a fraud. Why is Fashola towing the privatisation line of the govt they once utterly rubbished? We were also given the impression that power projects were solely awarded to Jonathan's cronies and PDP financiers, why is it now a herculean task for Fashola and Buhari to revoke those contracts and start on a 'clean slate'?

c. The last administration was accused of impoverishing Nigerians through white elephant projects, will the proposed introduction of Toll Fees do otherwise? Are there no other revenue generating mechanisms Fashola and APC can adopt without draining the pockets of hapless citizens?

Conclusion:

This piece was not intended to project or condemn the image of any political party but an exposition of our politicians subtle and deceitful manipulations while seeking elective and appointive offices. We all have a lot to learn as 2019 approaches.

First, governance is about continuity and you should get that OP. It saves the people's money and time.

Second, at no time did APC say there were no projects in the past administration, the monumental failure was as a result of the projects not seeing the light of the day.
People were using them to enrich themselves and I am sure you are aware of the current revelations in terms of how our money went into private pockets?

OP, Governance is about the people and not political parties. 2019 is coming and you can campaign but now it is business of bringing the goods and it will be great to support the govt because their failure affects everyone.

Friend, firstly, my post was not intended to campaign for any political party. Secondly, we all agree with the fact that government is a continuum and that emphasizes why PDP had to cope with the rots inherited from the prolonged military rules in 1999 without raising dust or engaging in name calling as APC often do. However, please google the many statements issued by APC as a party and individually by many of their members including Fashola before and after the last elections. They all collectively asserted and chorused the complete failure of Jonathan and PDP's 16-year rule.

My apologies but this is a very dull way to reason. So do you expect the new government to abandon ongoing projects in a bid to start their own projects?... Have you not heard that government is a continuum?.... Can you kindly name a single road project done by the last administration which wasnt started or touched by his predecessors?

Now for all the projects scattered all over the place which was started by the previous government, what sense does it make to award thousands of projects but yet not a single one is finished?... After paying mobilisation fees, the rest of the funds are withheld/embezzled but they still come forward to the election grounds to claim they did x and y projects when in reality, all the projects are at infancy. Now the Op in his peculiar wisdom wants the new government to tow the same line by abandoning previous projects and starting new ones.

Most of the road projects were conceived and mainly started during the govts of Obj or Yar'Adua.
Op, I dare u to mention ONE(1) road project conceived and started by gej during his time.
In order to simplify this for u and save u from embarrassing yourself, please don't mention the Ore-Benin-Onitsha,Lagos-Ibadan,Onitsha-Owerri or the East-West roads because almost all these were started while gej was still a struggling, unknown lecturer somewhere and was still thinking of how to pay his next rent.
So pls research and mention one his govt conceived, drew up the plan from the scratch and mobilized contractors to site.

Obviously my post does not suggest I am dull. Moreover, common sense dictates that you don't continue with a project you had hitherto labelled as a WASTE. Fashola and APC summed up PDP govt as a failure. Politicians and people like you need to give honour to whom its due. OK?

I would have completely ignored your fables but for the sake of sensible Nairalanders, I would advise you to pick your phone and google the road and other projects initiated and completed by Jonathan's administration and report back to us(Nairaland) if you can't find any. However, this tread is not meant for Jonathan or PDP image laundering but to expose the lying and sweet tongues of our politicians. It cut across all political divide.

It is so unfortunate that Nigerians love scammers. Fashola was not even ashamed to mention that a lot of the roads have neared between 75% - 95% completion. The roads mentioned in his broadcast were all initiated by GEJ. The Power sector they want to continue with is also by GEJ.
They will do only 5%-25% and then want to take the glory for building roads in Nigeria. It doesn't bother me cos I never expected these bunch of deceitful and media propagandists to do any better. To all those that were shouting change I hope they are feeling the change in the air.

You seemed to have misunderstood me. The whole essence of my post was to highlight the apparent deceitful vices in APC and its leadership and not to exonerate the past administration from any blame. let me try and break this down for you in simple terms maybe you will understand.

1. A project can be termed wasteful if the amount allocated to the project was hiked astronomically in the first place.

2. you can continue with such projects by forcing the contractors back on site to complete the works.

3. actually it's kinda stvpid to abandon such projects after having paid so much.

4. PDP government was a failure because 16 years after, we are still talking about providing basic infrastructures facilities like roads, constant power et al for the people.

5. PDP is a party without honour and as the revelations of gigantic stealing midwifed by Jonathan continues to assault our senses, GEJ worshippers ought to tuck their tails between their legs like a whipped dog and slink off.

Why do you APC jingoists indulge in so much deceit while defending the party or its mischievous leaders? Was there any day Jonathan's govt was accused of inflating project contracts or has there been any revelation of contract inflation in the ongoing comedic probes Buhari is engaging in? On the contrary, Fashola and Kwankwasso were the ones accused of over-invoicing of contracts in Lagos and Kano respectively. Let's call a spade by its name, APC used name-calling and hoax to gain power and it will hunt them forever. Stop defending evil.
