The Sunday Tribune published an interview in its December 20, 2015 edition with the headline:"Buhari not sincere with corruption fight--Sagay." A lot of issues have since cropped up on that interview with the supposed interviewee disclaiming it through an online medium. We have done a preliminary in-house investigation into how the interview was conducted and on what could have gone wrong with it.The fact of the matter is that the interview was conducted through telephone by one of our politics reporters on Thursday, 17th December, 2015 calling the interviewee on TELEPHONE NUMBER 08023137144. The normal introductoryformalities, according to the reporter, were observed before the interview commenced. In thecourse of the interview, the person on the other side answered all questions even when he was addressed as the Chairman of the Presidential Advisory Committee on Anti-Corruption.Online reports quoting Professor Sagay as denying granting the interview were, therefore, received by us with a shock. We consequently listened to the audio recording of the interview and, regrettably, discovered the voice not to be that of Professor Sagay. While we are continuing our investigations on who the person on the other line actually was and what could have gonewrong along our own line of editorial control, a number of disciplinary actions has been taken against our key members of staff involved in the publication. Specifically, the reporter has been dismissed from the employ of the company and the Editor, Sunday Tribune, placed on indefinite suspension. We have no reason whatsoever to put words in the mouth of the respected Professor Sagay. We apologise to him. We equally apologise to President Muhammadu Buhari and all other persons who were variously attacked in the publication. Our apologies also go to our esteemed readers. There was no deliberate action on our part to mislead our readers. We have an enviable pedigree and a long history of pioneering, in this country, a brand of journalism that upholds the truth as inviolable at all times. We have an institutional rigorous process in place that hitherto ensured this kind of unfortunate slip never took place. How this happened, escaping the control system, is part ofissues we are addressing. We are taking a firm, corrective look at that mechanism again. Once again, we promise our readers that this unfortunate incident will not happen again in our operations even as we retract the interview in its entirety.

From now on, I will take any news from Tribune with the proverbial pinch of salt.

Shara Reporters remain the best news source for investigative and reportage news even though they make mistakes too.

I feel for the hapless editor. Diligent supervisory oversight could indeed be tedious.

Wailers opened a dozen threads regarding the fake interview- even their self proclaimed Matriarch from the Shadow Cabinet created one and insulted the president as usual.

This is the umpteenth time their lies would be exposed under a month. It happened before the elections and it is happening again.

We told this formula would NEVER work, trying to pull a good man down at all cost, they didn't listen then, they aren't listening now. And as they trudge along in the dirt-road that leads to nowhere but total damnation, the shameful fate that befell them 8 months ago would revisit them again!

Now they are running all over the place spreading lies about one fictitious interview granted by Onaiyekan- it is just a matter of time before the Bishop comes out to expose their lies, just like Sagey.

It is well with Baba and Nigeria.

I've got a very good hunch where the person at the other end of the phone comes from.

What a shame. The desperation of PDP and her supporters is sickening!

Cc: Lalasticlala, Seun, Mynd44. You would agree with me this is important enough to be placed on the fp. It borders on a very serious issue as it relates to the president and someone impersonating his appointee. angry

This has been going on for far too long.

Yesterday, some fake quotes were attributed to Bishop onaiyekan.
Soyinka too has fallen victim.
Why can't these idiots be men and take responsibility for their thoughts like Fayose at least does.

So this is what PDP has been reduced to?.... They now stoop to the shamefull level of impersonating the voice of notable personalities. God help us from this desperation.

Anybody who knows Prof Itse Sagay would have had reservations about that interview.

Even, if he wanted to criticize the president, his policies or his party, he wouldn't have been so brazen. He would have been somewhat circumspect or diplomatic - especially as a current "Employee" of the president. That is why I had strong reservations about the interview.

If this was a desperate attempt by the opposition to discredit the president, then they must be very debased. They have just cost somebody his job.

Immediately I read the so Interview with the Prof, I instinctively doubted it. The Prof is too refined to be associated with some of the language used in the interview and the clearly libelous insinuation of some Inec staff on the payroll of an APC leader.
It just didn't make sense to me.

No wahala.

My joy is the message and its content which has gone into wider circulation.

Nigerians through that message have become even more aware of what the APC government are made of.

So they should stop crying over spilt milk
