Depends on your reason for calling. If it's a serious matter, one that involves life and death, then even calling up to 20 times isn't wrong.

If it's calling for other important stuff that isn't life threatening, like reminding someone about an appointment, or rescheduling a meeting or briefing someone about a particular important news or plan, then 5-6 missed calls is okay, at least the person would see the missed calls and know it was something important

But if it's just to say hi, and talk about trivial issues like; how are you, how has your day been and all that issh, then 2 is my limit.

OP i think you should listen to one song titled 99 missed calls.

Mine is 3.
First may not be with the phone.
Second trying to get the phone.
Last. May finally take the call, else then relax and try again later.

I call just twice maximum.

If someone doesn't pick their phone after 2 calls, it means:

1. They don't want to talk to you at that point in time.
2. Their phone is on silent mode.
3. They're not around their phone at that point in time.

That's it...too many calls will make them feel important. Plus the aim is to let them know that you tried to reach them so 500 calls won't mean anything, it's still 1 call that you guys will use to talk.
