ELDERS of Woji in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital, yesterday criticised Governor Nyesom Wike for claiming credit of the Abuluoma-Woji Road and bridge in the state capital.

The community leaders – Chiefs Joseph Eke, Lawrence Chuku, Ade Ogbonda, Samson Amadi-Odum, Chike Ogbonda and seven others – insisted that contracts for the road and bridge were awarded by the former administration of Rotimi Amaechi, and was 90 per cent completed.

The Woji leaders said the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Dakuku Peterside and Director-General of Greater Together Campaign Organisation, Chief Victor Giadom, who were commissioners for Works, supervised the projects but were not acknowledged by Wike.

The governor, at Wednesday’s inauguration, claimed that the 1.672-kilometre road was inherited at the earthwork and filling stage, before his administration completed it with sidewalls, median, toll point and a 275-metre bridge.

Wike said there would no longer be abandoned projects in Rivers, adding that no council would be neglected.

Works Commissioner Kelvin Wachukwu said the former administration initially awarded the contract for N3.5 billion, but revised it to N13.6 billion in 2014.

But the Woji leaders said: “The people of Woji will forever remain grateful to Rotimi Amaechi, the minister of Transportation, for initiating and building the Woji-Akpajo Road up to 90 per cent completion.

I remembered Peter Odili awarding Gas project to Dewoo in the year 2000 from Oyigbo to station in mile 1.After his tenure, did the last administration complete the project? I am just asking.
I think mr Wike should be commended for completing this particular project.

GOV WIKE IS OBVIOUSLY ATTEMPTING TO OUT-PERFORM AKPABIO.
Completing on-going projects, even as he starts new ones. If he remains focused it's possible.

What is more important between seeing a project completed and crediting a political officer? Wike should be commended for completing the project instead of this unnecessary political talks.

In seven months APC is still shocked by their luck, in acquiring what they never thought was possible.

Silly elders, instead of asking Wike to ensure Woji to Artillery is worked on the are there giving credit to the previous govt that started a project and didn't complete it, these elders are APC members, so I do not expect anything different, Woji to Artillery is so bad and there could not get Ameachi in 8 years to work on the road silly elders.

NO ONE CAN BE SURE THAT THE ELDERS SAID SO. APC IS SYNONYMOUS WITH LIES.

Jonathan. Even Amaechi said he was surprised at the level of work done by the last administration. I give Amaechi credit for that statement because he ddnt play politics with the rails this time. Wike should learn to be quiet or just say it the way it is. The said road was 95% complete with 3 long bridges befor wike came on board. Those of us who work around that area have been using the roads and bridges as early as 2013/2014. All you need do is get familiar with the contractor working on the raid and they allow access.
It is a good thing that he commissioned it officially but he should have said the truth. Except someone is saying that wike built that stretch of road and bridges across swamp and rivers in 3months (considering when activities started befor commissioning)

Nuff said.

Are you sure?

But APC warriors were here telling us how Buhari completed Jonathan's abandoned project. They even broke down the cost of completion of the rail project under Buhari.

Bro it was all over the news. The pdp took a swipe at Amaechi for saying that he ddnt know the railways were functional. Nlanders did not spare him too. Brother I wouldn't know where that breakdown you talk about came from. Amaechi's position on phc -aba railway is that Jonathan did well with the rail. He added that they will improve on the gauges later in this administration.
