Romance. 13:1-7
There is a perception that God's ministers that venture into politics have lost focus and are now in pursuit of worldly positions and should therefore remain on the pulpit.
However, a clinical and unbiased examination of the epistle of Apostle Paul in Romans 13:1-7 to the Romans and by extension to the body of christ worldwide unambiguously declares political leaders as Ministers of God appointed by God to administer leadership to the general populace. Of enormous importance is the term "ministers of God " which was clearly used 3times, twice in verse 4 and once in verse 6 to describe those in political leadership. One of the dictionary meanings of the word "minister" simply says; servant, officer, instrument, subordinate, assistant or agent. Which therefore puts everyone with an assignment for humanity whether spiritual or political on a uniform pedestal.
In other words, our President, Governors, ministers, senators etc are not less of God's ministers than the characters of the fivefold ministry namely; Apostles ,
Prophets, Pastors, teachers and Evangelists. The difference in their roles is that unlike the latter whose responsibility is primarily but not necessarily restricted to attending to the spiritual needs of people , the former are chosen by God to attend to the economic and infrastructural needs of the people in the form of providing social amenities amongst other things for the people's use.
However, the question that has generated so much controversy is whether or not God could deem it fit to merge these 2 responsibilities of providing both spiritual and political leadership in an individual. The answer to the question is abundantly enumerated in the lives of major Bible characters. A realistic and contemporary understanding of these Bible characters appreciates an unequivocal dichotomization of the anointing with which they operated. Prophet Moses been the protagonist of the Jewish freedom project from Egypt is no different from a Nelson Mandela who championed South Africa's liberation from the British. A biblical Deborah who was the judge in Isreal is by no means less a political leader to Britain's Margaret Thatcher. A Joseph who was Egypt's prime minister is certainly no less a leader to Britain's Gordon Brown. The man who perfectly epitomizes this duo capacity is none other than the Charismatic and fascinating King David who was both a Prophet and a Political leader of Isreal for 40years. The likes of Joshua, Samuel, Samson, Gideon all exhibited top notch and exemplary leadership attributes that characterizes both spiritual and political leadership sagacity.
Therefore , the political ambition of a spiritual leader is a further pursuit of his divine mandate.
