In the day of biotechnology, steel is low tech. Even car manufacturing is considered medium tech.

It is not true that a country needs tohave a steel plant in order for it to industrialise. That is a myth.

If steel manufacturing is so profitable, why hasn't Dangote or any other rich Nigerian rushed into it.

Instead they are avoiding it like a plague.

Well, the Nigerian govt acts before it thinks. A feasibility study will expose the folly of steel manufacturing

biotechnology is an high tech industry.........
most countries involved are advanced economies.......
it's not for middle or low income economies........
it involves a lot of research and development, and Nigeria is not cut out for that yet.......
biotechnology application include genetic engineering, genetic modified foods, pharmacogenomics, gene therapy, bioinformatics, biofuels, industrial biotechnology etc
our knowledge in basic and advanced genetics is too poor for us to have any competitive edge in this industry.......
Nigeria should first learn how to produce pencil, toothpick, spoon and steel before dabbling into above

pls mention one industrialized country that lacks a steel industry.......just one

dangote and co are avoiding it because govt is yet to come up with a detailed blueprint on steel manufacturing in Nigeria
let the govt repeat what they did in the cement industry in steel and see whether dangote will not take advantage........
Govt protected the cement industry from cheap imports and that enabled the industry to thrive and perform well.........
and we can all see the result today........
the price of cement is coming down, we no longer import cement and we even export to west African countries.

Show me where Onu said it would take 2 years to start producing pencils?

At least he is announcing his targets.

Fayemi is busy talking about bottomless pits and doing studies and investigations with no plan to get the sector generating income.

Tomoarika:

Lol. The same Ogbonnaya Onu who announced that Nigeria is due to start production of Pencils! in 2 years time right?

You want Nigerians to pay through the nose for steel like they did for cement? Dangote net profit is over 50% of sales. It is best to rob Nigerians blind because they won't even know it.

It never worked and still will not work becos Nigeria is shameless corrupt bribe taken country. I hope whenever you are ready to make it work, you will contract it to the sane countries that does not give nor take bribe. The Russians were ready and still ready. Minister, don't sit in your office and conclude it will not work. Hadiza have set the pace for you to tap on. Minister fashola, the anti-poor leader, when you were governor you build houses for your friends and concubines and called it low cost. The civil servants you are paying 18k are the people that can afford 9mn? Wicked leader smooth operating manipulator. Ok, nass does not have power to talk abi, anti-poor leader. The riches of this country, how many of them pay light bill? Government establishment don't pay light bill. Fashola, do you pay light in your house? If yes, publish your receipts of payment in the last eight year to comfirm your credibility. Please, do not get expart to manipulate the receipts as it is stock in-trade of politicians. Fashola, enemy of the poor, it is the poor people that pays light bill and are harassed to pay light bills even when light is not inexistence and you know that. Minister fashola, is your ministry not suppose to see that all houses are metered before tarif increase? This is robbery in broad day light which is worse than Anini. God will continually judge all of you that are humilating the poor. Theives.

Why don't you write a rebuttal instead of resorting to petty insults man.

Bro, I am really sorry for reacting this way,

If you witnessed families go 13 months without pay, families dying from consumption of Cassava species not meant for eating, children starving to death, sick people dying because they can't afford to pay fir drugs to maintain diabetes....... The list is much, kai people suffered to death in Ajaokuta, news men refused to carry the news rather the past vp under Jonathan connived with madam opolo eyes of NNPC and the past minister of solid minerals to write the place off as scrap.... I have said it, if Nigeria will not make a headway with the steel company they should call back the Russians who built it to repair and run it. Once again I apologise for my temper.
