The Inspector General of Police (IGP)
Solomon Arase, while speaking at the Police
Commissioners Conference held in Abuja
yesterday February 3rd said that the Nigeria
Police Force will soon replace firearms with
shun guns . According to the IGP, this is
part of measures to reduce casualties from
the misuse of firearms by officers who are
on patrol. INFORMATION NIGERIA has put
together the 3 reasons proffered by the IGP
for making this move …
– A shun gun being a weapon designed to
stun or immobilize ( as by electric shock )
rather than kill or injure the one affected is
saver. It only temporarily immobilizes a
person without inflicting serious injury .
– The IGP said the introduction of shun gun
this year will drastically reduce cases of
police killings.
– Mr . Arase said it is important to
introduce shun gun became in case a
patrolling officer mistakenly shoots
someone, the fatality will be such that it
does not result in death.
Do you think that some police will misuse it?

NPF is long overdue for this. I have been having that though in my mind for some times now. you see violent protest in foreign countries and there is hardly any casualty, but here in Nigeria, the most peaceful of protest isn't guaranteed no lose of life or life threatening injuries.

NAIJA no be America oo. Even if una go do am, no come dey announce am naa. For the records, the sight of rifle by mopol dey discourage bad things for we society hoohaa.

Our kind arm robber no go give police time to open car trunk and bring out rifle.

What we need is proper training and remuneration for our officers and men of NPF.

It seems a good adviser of the IGP read my post sometimes ago on the need to us "Tasers".
Sanchez01:
They would all pass! Where the madness come from is the gun they carry about. Most have never even had the opportunity to squeeze the trigger before and they would cherish every bit of opportunity to do so. The IG alonside the FG should start considering the use of tazers. Our policemen should not be allowed to move with guns!
Nigerian Policemen should never concern themselves with guns. Let special units handle guns and other weaponry.

Unlike guns, tasers can only send some particular volts of electricity into your system. One may be temporarily incapacitated but would be fine eventually. Tasers would definitely give another chance at life and perhaps even push or file a petition against the NPF for being abused. It's way better than getting shot at from rusted guns. Imagine the twin and their friend that was killed just during the New Year.
