The senate on Wednesday, February 10 summoned Bala
Muhammed, the immediate past minister of the Federal Capital
Territory (FCT) over illegal allocation of lands.

Dino Melaye, the Chairman of the committee on Federal Capital
Territory (FCT) disclosed this while briefing newsmen in the
senate.

Also the senate summoned not only Muhammed Bala, but all
other concerned actors on land in FCT which include directors
of survey and mapping, urban and regional development,
development control and land administration.


Melaye added that the concerned directors directors affirmed
that the allocation of those areas were done with impunity
“Aspiration of the founding father has been utterly wrecked by
the over-ambitious administration of FCT, most especially the
immediate past Minister Bala.

“The decision of stop work orders was predicated upon the
committee’s assessment. It is important therefore to note that
the committee’s decision was guided by due process and the
rule of law,” he said.

However, Senator Melaye further reminded the FCT
administration that this eighth senate is guided by change and
will not condole misappropriation of funds or misapplication of
the laws as the case may be.

“With this administration of change, it is no longer going to be
business as usual. This is what justice demands in this
circumstance to right the wrongs,” he said.

Also, Melaye said that the committee strongly shares the
opinion that the Abuja master plan needs to be adhered the city
made beautiful by preserving it’s green areas.


It will be recalled that Dino Melaye on Friday, February 5,
faulted allocation of lands in Abuja to former president
Goodluck Jonathan.

He made the allegation during a budget defence meeting
between his committee and Muhammed Bello, the FCT minister
who claimed that the area was supposed to provide tourist
attraction for foreign visitors.

However, Bala reacted to reports saying that throughout the
tenure of the previous administration, all allocations of land in
the FCT were based on professional advice, availability of
layouts and the provisions of the Land Use Act.

He also said that in reference to the Ministerial Hill, which the
Senate Committee gave the Department of Development
Control directive to stop work, the area was not designated as
recreational area or park but was designated as undevelopable
among many other reasons.
