Why stop now? Nigerians have been lying to themselves since independence. "Nigeria will be great AGAIN". That in itself is a fat lie. When was Nigeria ever great? "The giant of Africa" How exactly is she a giant? Another lie; 'Nigeria is are not a corrupt nation'. Unless you have been living under a rock, then you must know this is a fallacy. The President gave a truthful and genuine opinion on the obvious perception of how the outside world sees the country and he was crucified for it. Nigerians don't like the truth. They feel better when given a fabricated version of it.

zombies will never learn, why? xos they lack brains!
obama is obama today cos he rode on bush failures n economic downturn of usa. today america economy is blooming thanx to obama who didnt heap the blame on his predecessor but capitalised in his weaknesses to build what we have today.
great leaders n potential great leaders will never put blame on anything instead they build on the downfall of the past.
tmao they will blame our population for their inability to fulfil their promises, sorry e bin don start sef.

Wow! This is spot on op. I wish I could write like this. You said the economy is broke, you want to raise money inwardy, hence you increase tax, increase electricity tarrif, started deduction of postal whatever from all bank deposit, thereby making life hader for the average Nigerian. Yet you presented a budget to spend 215mill naira on kitchen utensils, 515mill naair to maintain cars in you convoy. Cars that's not driven outside Abuja. The amount of money to be used to buy books for the vice president office is about 4 million naira, whereas the amount to buy books for 11 out of 22 federal polytechnics is about 3milion naira.

As a president, you can't cut these things off?? U want to spend 315 million naira to build a VIP wing in Aso Rock clinic! A clinic that when u are sick, you will not go to be treated. Instead you will be flown abroad. It's just funny how things are in this country. Dunno why one person can't just come up and be our Nelson Mandela, to give selfless service and better the lots of Nigerians.

Well am not surprised anyway. If you tell lies to attain power, you will need more lies to keep the power.

I took sometime to read this piece and some points the writer highlighted. However, the writer failed to give us empirical facts to counter issues she raised. For example, if she says, that TSA amount is not up to N2.2 trillion, so what is the actual figure? Until you tell nigeria the actual figure and your source, then in my own opinion I she have committed thesame crime she accused the Govt of doing. Secondly, I am left with no choice to say she has been paid to write this nonsense.

A well-scripted piece. As we knw, d size of d head does not affect what flows out of it. Kudos to d writer's lively head.

For d avoidance of doubt, I was here in 1983, there4 I don't expect buhari to perform. However, I'll b very happy if I'm proved wrong. Comparing 1983 performance n d discovery dat he lacks educatnal qualificatn, I'm not surprised.

The reality of politics is that all governments lose popularity over time. It is a given in multi-party democracy. Election and ascension to power is like an account to be cashed. What you want to do is to make sure your withdrawals are invested, not wasted. And that your first expense is a hit to stave off rapid devaluation.

This government is going through, burning good will too fast without political investments on ground. If I'm not mistaken the only hard, progressive and conclusive achievement of significance is the removal of fuel subsidy and even this was easy due to the low crude prices (what will happen when they rise again). The most important and key issue, restructuring the country is not in view.

It all leads me to conclude now as I did as soon as Buhari emerged presidential flag bearer, that he represents the establishment, he will maintain the status quo and few real reforms will take place during his time and at best changes will be cosmetic. Since then I have not seen otherwise.

The best days of the APC are over. Not just because of what they do or don't but it is the nature of things. Just that they are not helping.

If this is all expected then he should have said so. That is what the OP is insinuating. Nothing wrong with what he has/is doing. I think it is/was the people that were highly mistaken.
Re: Buhari, Time We Stopped Lying To Ourselves - Abimbola Adelakun by deleib(m): 11:18am On Feb 11, 2016
to me, the only thing buhari can do is to fight corruption. he doesn't understand how to solve Nigeria's problems especially d economic and unemployment one.

I think d guy is as clueless as gej having regretted to become d president when Nigeria's economy is plummeting.

The general problem we have in Nigeria is leadership without ideology. our leaders can't solve problem because they don't have good political and economic ideology. Our leaders do not Read and that's what make them clueless the most.

the last sentence says it all: "coming into office when the oil price is falling is not the problem, not enough imagination to confront what looms ahead doom us"
Enough of politics .let governance starts..PMB major problem is that there is too much politicking with little time for governance.

Once again. Nigerians did not vote him to tell them who they are, truthfully or lie to them. They put him there 'to do' and not 'to say'. That is the yardstick they choose to measure him now. Promised change. Their pastors and Imams do the holiness heads-up stuff week in, week out.
