APELE – LEADER of the Hausa Community in Sapele, Delta State, Alhaji Sahab Umar, has disclosed how the community arrested a suspected Boko Haram suspect, penultimate week, in Sapele and handed him over to security agents.

Alhaji Umar, who addressed reporters in Sapele, said the Hausa community recently put in place a new surveillance team to track down new persons infiltrating the Hausa quarters in the area, saying the committee identified the suspect because of its eagle-eyed vigilance.

He said the Hausa community in Sapele was desirous to uphold the peaceful of northerners with its host community and so was prepared more than ever before to ascertain the true nationalities of those entering the town through the Hausa quarter.

Umar said the newly surveillance team was on red alert and closely monitoring new entrants into the town as well as their activities, particularly their sources of living.

He said that the number of commercial motorcycle and tricycle operators in Sapele and environs had risen in different times and the Hausa community in Sapele had in the few months been assisting security agencies with relevant information to check the influx of persons from northern states.

The Hausa leader said members of the community already know that they should report any suspicious character to the Police and Army for interrogation.

He enjoined them to remain calm, be vigilant and continue to assist government to check criminal elements infiltrating Sapele.
