Kaduna State government has confirmed the death of three people following an outbreak of Lassa fever.

The trio – a doctor, a nurse and a pregnant woman, were confirmed dead at Saint Louis Specialist Hospital, Zonkwa, Zango Kataf local government area.

The Commissioner for health in the State, Professor Jonathan Andrew Nok, told newsmen on Monday that the doctor and the nurse had symptoms of Lassa fever shortly after operating on the pregnant woman, who was brought in from another hospital in Kafanchan.

He said they died few days after testing positive to the deadly disease.

Nok disclosed that the affected hospitals had been put under isolation, with a view to tracing the primary and secondary contacts with the deceased.

Nok called on residents of the state not to panic. He urged them to maintain personal hygiene as well as keep their environment clean.

We are obviously not well informed and equipped to handle these diseases that's why I won't even do busy body to attend to any sick person. Even doctors and nurses are dying talk less of scientists.

Yes maam, Ebola was repelled from coming into Nigeria.....
But Lassa fever is our very own, was discovered, bred and brought up in Lassa village in Nigeria.

We can actually export it to other nations sef. Just praying it could be nipped it in the board this time again.
Wake up! Dear Minister of Health.

Sometimes I wonder where all these diseases appear from. Are they created in the labs somewhere in Europe or America...maybe in one big pharmaceutical lab, who wants to make billions from selling the cure to the world? Cos I sure know most of these diseases weren't around in the times of my father, and there were rats around then too.
Lassa fever is generic to Lassa village in Nigeria where twas discovered in the 1980s, was suppressed long ago.
Like you said, was it released by some wicked and corrupt multinatinals? This we can't tell because the resurgence could have been as a result of re-introduction of the virus 'stolen' from a laboratory.
Uncool!

Check my signature happy people.

This Minister of health is obviously ineffective..He should be removed with immediate effect abeg..He lacks experience in Public health disease control and surveillance..He is still going around blaming GEJ for the spread of Lassa Fever..Infact GEJ has made him clumsy in the discharge of his duties..

Hmmmmmm. I heard a Corp doctor died in that hospital

*As copied*

A PATRIOT GONE TOO SOON
On behalf of the NYSC Management, staff and serving Corps members nationwide, I, Brigadier General Johnson Olawumi, hereby extend our sincere condolences to the family of Corps Doctor Ogboji Kelechi Aaron (KD/15A/1165) who died of Lassa Fever on Saturday, 20th February, 2016 in Kaduna State.
Dr. Aaron contacted the disease in the course of active service in his place of primary assignment, St Louis Hospital, Zonkwa.
The death of this promising, selfless and patriotic young man is a great loss, not only to his immediate family, but also to all of us in the NYSC family and the entire nation.
We, however, take solace in the fact that Aaron made the Supreme sacrifice in the course of great service to humanity.
We stand in solidarity and prayers with the bereaved family in this moment of grief.
May the Almighty God grant him eternal rest, and give his immediate family and the rest of us the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.
I also use this medium to advise all Corps members, especially those serving in health facilities all over the country, to always take extra precautions in the face of the reported outbreak of Lassa Fever in some states of the Federation.
Signed:
JB Olawumi
Brig Gen
Director-General — with Yahuza Isa Adamu
