Players' ratings according to Owngoalnigeria.........

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Corsica 1-1 Nigeria – Players Ratings; Onyekuru Disappoints, Etebo MOTM, Mu’azam Shines, Odey Impresses

The Super Eagles of Nigeria forced the French Island of Corsica to a 1-1 draw in a friendly meant to prepare the Nigerian team for their upcoming AFCON 2019 Qualifiers against South Africa next month.

Owngoalnigeria.com foreign correspondent Michael James was at the Stade François Coty in Ajaccio where the game was played, and rates the Nigerian players on parade.

Ikechukwu Ezenwa – Didn’t have much to do during the course of the game dominated by Nigeria, and could do nothing about the goal scored by Corsica via the spot. Looked calm and commanding especially in dealing with crosses into the box…..6.5/10

Tyronne Ebuehi – The Dutch-Nigerian full back had a rude introduction to international football, giving away a penalty very early into his first game for Nigeria, but he recovered brilliantly from the set back, particularly in the second half but he still need to work on his marking abilities….6/10

Elderson Echiejile – His experience was very clear to see, strong and very smart in tackles, not the quickest but wasn’t beaten for pace. His forays upfront also helped the Eagles in attack in the second half. A fine display from the stand in captain….. 7/10

Chidozie Awaziem – Awaziem proved why he is so highly rated by Portuguese side FC Porto with an almost flawless display in his first game for Nigeria. Quick, very strong in the air and in duels. His ball playing abilities was also another area which caught out attention….. 7/10

William Troost– Ekong – Was his usual self, full of energy, running and commitment. Loves to take a tackle for his team, always willing to put his body where it hurts. Dovetailed nicely with Awaziem in the heart of Nigeria defence as Corsica failed to mount any serious challenge….. 7/10

Mikel Agu – Quick in turning defence into attack with forward passes. He had a very commanding game in the middle for Nigeria. Covered lot of grounds, the only major drawback was his unwillingness to join the attack even when Corsica sit back to defend….. 7/10

Oghenekaro Etebo – Can easily pass as the man of the match. Clearly the best player on the pitch for both teams. Strong, quick and incisive, he was too good for the Corsica defence. Brought down for the penalty converted by Iheanacho which. drew Nigeria level….. 8.5/10

Alhassan Ibrahim – Mu’azam as he is fondly called was one of the best players for Nigeria in the first half, and twice came close to scoring with one of his efforts bringing out a parried safe from the goalkeeper of Corsica. Headed wide when he should have done better in a promising position. Tired out in the second half….. 7/10

Ahmed Musa – Failed to connect a spilled ball by the goalkeeper of Corsica after a well hit drive for Mu’azam, but overall was too much for the left back of Corsica to handle. Musa’s raw pace and quick feet helped Nigeria win fouls and his unselfish play was wasted by Onyekuru who failed to connect with the goalkeeper at his mercy….. 8/10

Kelechi Iheanacho – The Manchester City man brought out a fine save from the Corsica shot stopper from what looked like a half chance. Didn’t quite imposed himself in the first half, but was very lively in the second half, had a hand in the move that lead to the penalty for Nigeria, which he converted to maintain his fine scoring record for Nigeria….. 7/10

Henry Onyekuru – Looked lost and tensed. Missed a sitter which could have drawn Nigeria level shortly after they went behind. Took up goal scoring positions but wasn’t clinical enough to convert them. Presently highly sort after by top clubs in Europe after his 24 goals haul for Eupen, Onyekuru had a debut he won’t want to remember in a hurry….. 6/10

Substitutes –

Stephen Odey – The top scorer in the Nigeria Premier League took the game by the scruff of it’s neck after coming on for Nigeria. Eager to shot at goal and had an effort on target. Link up play was also brilliant particularly with his back to goal…… 6.5/ 10

Shehu Abdullahi – Picked up a yellow card for foul play but overall helped stabilised the defence of Nigeria, showed commitment and a willingness to get into duels for his team….. 6/10

Uche Agbo – Helped sprayed the ball around nicely, his range of passes gave the Eagles attackers a lot to feed on. Not quick but takes up good positions which nullified any potential danger posed by Corsica on the break…..5.5/10

Sikiru Olatubosun – Tried to bring his positive energy when he came on, but didn’t have enough time to settle into the game. Nice touches though few times he got the ball….. 5/10

Understandable. He was having his international debut in the "full glare'(?) of fans who think he's the best thing since iheanacho. That contributed a bit. Hopefully, He'll grow into the team.
Etebo is easily becoming my best eagles player.

What a turn around.
Sincerely, I am really excited about Iheanacho's WestHam move.
Here he will have enough opportunities to show what he is made of.
Good for our build-up to the 2018 WC.

Exclusive – Iheanacho Leaves Eagles Camp, Heads To London For West Ham Medicals

Super Eagles forward Kelechi Iheanacho who scored Nigeria’s lone goal in their 1-1 draw against Corsica has departed the camp of the Super Eagles of Nigeria in France for London, where he is scheduled to have a medical with West Ham United.

” He left camp this morning with the permission of the coach. He is heading to London, so he won’t be part of our travelling party to Paris. Although we expect him to return before the game against Togo on the 1st of June “, a camp source told Owngoalnigeria.com.

Iheanacho will team up with West Ham on a permanent deal, with Manchester City having the option of buying him back after two years according to reports gathered byOwngoalnigeria.com editorial team.

The 20 year old lost his spot at Manchester City following the arrival of Gabriel Jesus, who pushed him further down the pecking order leading to the forward missing out on some of the matchday squad of manager Pep Guardiola. .

His move is expected to cost the Hammers £24m, a fee which will make him the most expensive Nigerian player beating the record set by Odion Ighalo when he moved to Chinese side Chanchung Yatai from Watford for £20m.

Isaac success in good hands!!

Watford Football Club is delighted to announce the appointment of Marco Silva as Head Coach.
The 39-year old, who has experience of managing in Portugal, Greece and most recently in England with Hull City, has signed a two-year deal at Vicarage Road.
A title-winner in Greece with Olympiacos, he’d previously led Sporting to a third-place finish in Portugal in 2014 and delivered their first trophy – the Portuguese Cup – since 2008.
Early managerial experiences were gained at Estoril, where he guided the club to promotion and a place in Portugal’s top-flight.
The Greek Super League triumph in 2016 came with six games to spare, with Silva having earlier in that campaign led his team to victory at Arsenal in a UEFA Champions League match.
Chairman and CEO Scott Duxbury said of the appointment: “Marco was one of the most sought after Head Coaches in the Premier League.
"His pedigree and promise speaks for itself with his achievements in top divisions elsewhere across Europe, as well as his work at Hull City last season."
“We are delighted to have secured his services and to be welcoming a Head Coach of his profile and potential,” he added.
“It’s an exciting time to be a Watford fan, and I’m sure all supporters will join me in offering Marco and his family the warmest of welcomes to Vicarage Road.”

Sitting in a club with the excuse of fighting your way back to the team barely increases your value. Hey he is already the highest Nigerian income earner! It took some Eagles player a lifetime to achieve this feat because of the real reason -- comfort zone.

well most expensive. let's wait to see his salary

Super Eagles Depart Corsica For Paris Saturday Afternoon Ahead Togo Clash
By James Agberebi

Players and officials of Super Eagles will depart for Paris this afternoon ( Saturday) ahead of their next international friendly match against the Hawks of Togo on Thursday, June 1, Completesportsnigeria.com reports

This was announced on the Super Eagles official Twitter handle on Saturday morning.

On Friday, the Eagles completed the first part of their doubleheader friendly games following their 1-1 draw with hosts Corsica.

Jean-Jacques Mandrichi gave Corsica the lead early in the game from the penalty spot before Kelechi Iheanacho also converted from the spot to force a draw for the Eagles.

"The first phase of our preparation for the 2019 AFCON qualifier vs South Africa ends in Corsica today. We leave for Paris this afternoon," the Eagles Twitter handle stated.
Eight players made their unofficial debuts for the Eagles in the draw with Corsica.

Tyronne Ebuehi (ADO Den Haag), Mikel Agu (Vitoria Setubal), Chidozie Awaziem(FC Porto), Henry Onyekuru (Eupen) and Ibrahim Alhassan (Akwa United) were all in the starting eleven for the Eagles.

The trio of Stephen Odey, Sikiru Olatunbosun (MFM) and Uche Agbo (Granada) were brought on in the second half.

Meanwhile, the President of the Executive Council of Corsica, Gilles Simeoni and the parliament had an official reception for the Nigerian team on Thursday.

Speaking at the reception, Simeoni revealed Corsica's admiration for the Eagles while tipping them to win next year's FIFA Word Cup in Russia.

"We have been huge fans of the Super Eagles in Corsica since 1994. We are behind you. You will win the World Cup."

Kayode Joins Super Eagles Camp In Controversial Circumstances, Suspended After Getting Himself Booked

Austria Vienna striker Olarenwaju Kayode is on his way to Paris to link up with the Super Eagles ahead of their international friendly with Togo on June 1.

Initially, the ex-Golden Eaglets and Flying Eagles star had been omitted from the roster due to club commitments with the Austrian Bundesliga side.

'Fortune smiled on Kayode' after he picked up his fifth yellow card in domestic competitions in Thursday's Bundesliga clash against Red Bull Salzburg, which automatically triggered a one-game suspension and ruled him of the final game of the season against Admira on Sunday.

It has been suggested that the leading marksman in Austria deliberately got himself booked in the 83rd minute of the contest against Salzburg.

The Nigeria international was cautioned in the closing minutes of the last two games in the Bundesliga, and was last booked six months ago (November 27 against Wolfsberger ) before the strange episodes.

Nigeria: Football Enthusiasts Happy With Super Eagles/Corsica Match

Some football enthusiasts on Saturday said that much meaning should not be read to the Super Eagles 1-1 draw against Corsica in an international friendly match.

The enthusiasts said this n Lagos that the match was a test run to evaluate the team ahead of the 2019 Nations Cup qualifier against South Africa on June 10.

Bright Omokaro, a former Super Eagles player, stated that the outcome of the match was not bad, adding that it would help to prepare the team ahead of the qualifiers.

"Friendly matches are good and I believe this is what our team need to be ready for the task ahead.

"There should be more improvement in the next friendly match against Togo," he said.

Nduka Ugbade, an ex-international, said that the friendlies would help to create a better understanding among the players.

"We have played Corsica and we are playing Togo. This will help the players to have a better understanding of themselves on the pitch.

"The technical crew should also do the needful and work on the lapses in the team," he said.

Also, Francis Uzor, a grassroots football coach in Ajegunle, advised the Gernot Rohr led technical crew to assemble a formidable team ahead of the Nations Cup qualifiers with the friendlies.

"The aim of the friendlies is to prepare us against South Africa, so I expect Rohr to select the best players from the two matches," he said.

Nigeria will play against Togo on June 1 in another international friendly match in France.

Manchester City Wonderkid Iheanacho, 15 Eagles Land In Paris Ahead Of Togo Friendly

Allnigeriasoccer.com understands that sixteen Super Eagles players have just landed in Paris to begin their second phase of camping, ahead of the African Cup of Nations qualifier against South Africa.

Contrary to reports in a section of the media, this website can exclusively report that Manchester City wonderkid Kelechi Iheanacho was in the Super Eagles traveling party to the French capital.

However, a source close to Iheanacho has stated that there's a possibility that he will leave for England tonight, if he is given permission by manager Gernot Rohr, as he has some pressing commitments to sort out.

The ex-Golden Eaglets sensation was the saviour again for the Super Eagles when he converted a spot-kick in the closing minutes of their 1-1 draw with Corsica on Friday night.

Nigeria will face West African side Togo in their next friendly on Thursday before returning home for serious business.

TheSuperNerd:

The Super Eagles of Nigeria arrived Paris the venue for their next friendly game without star striker Kelechi Iheanacho who scored the lone goal in their 1-1 draw against Corsica last night.

Confirming the reason why the out of favour Manchester City forward didn’t travel with his teammates, a member of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) said he left for London this morning.
