Yes.

I always remember him as that small goalie that joined the team in celebration each time we won a game.

God Bless who ever thought of introducing the MRI to the U17s.

He should be a candidate for our next U23.

I hope we maintain our scouting model that unearth these talents, coupled with the current NPFL U15 tournament, we can keep unearthing rare gems.

I agree wholeheartedly. He is definitely a strong contender for the Olympics goalkeeping position.

Francis is not the smallie. Which is frightening. Abdulazeez Abubakar is younger than Francis Uzoho. He was the smallest keeper.

Yeah Abdul Azeez. Where is he now?

Former Nigeria U-17 Goalkeeper Gets Senior Squad Number At Deportivo La Coruna

Former Nigeria U-17 shot stopper Francis Uzoho has been handed a first team squad number by the technical crew of Spanish La-Liga side Deportivo La Coruna.

The 18 year old joined the team in January from the prestigious Aspire Academy in Qatar, a transfer exclusively reported by this football portal few months ago‎.

Although he is yet to make a first team appearance, he has severally trained with the first team, and impressed the handlers who have now decided to hand him a first team squad number in jersey number 23.

In the summer, he is expected to make his debut for the team in pre season games from where his performances could land him a permanent spot in the first team in competitive games.

For now he is the third choice goalkeeper of the La-Liga outfit, who are placed 16th on the log, and mathematically not saved yet as they face the prospect of dropping to the second division in Spain unless they pick up ‎points in their remaining five games of the season.

Uzoho was a part of the Nigerian U-17 team of 2013 that won the U-17 World Youth Championship in the UAE. He was the third choice goalkeeper of the team as head coach Manu Garba settled for Dele Alampasu as his first choice.

Francis Uzoho was already a huge kid. You can see him far right in the picture. The young really grow. Look at Iheanacho looking like Crayfish. LOLS. grin

Yeah I remember that face.

Chigozie Obasi seems to be the smallest.

But Isaac Success is not in that pix.

I almost insulted one of my colleagues then who said those boys were above 25.

If Manu Garba gets another nod, then some of us will need to lobby for external support for the team. We can not depend on the NFF alone to cater for our future talents. The incidents of the boys without proper food or water should end.

Organization is a big part of Success. Wishing our Eaglets the best.

When was the U17 tournament? Consider time lapse you cannot make an application on past glories. How many senior caps has he won, has he been playing in a top European club. Has he played Champions league what are his stats, top goal scorer in league or club, highest number of assists, etc. Bearing in mind your earlier assertion, What Special Talent

If he had come to Arsenal's academy as a young teenager there would be no issues he would now be classed as home grown.

However, he has been in Holland for the past 2/3 years, doing what I do believe he will face work permit issues even on appeal I doubt if he will be granted a permit.

Just my opinion.

p.s. Checked his Stats, he is 20 now and has played 23 games and 1 goal.

This is Kelechi Nwakali first professional season.

He is just 18 years old. Will be 19 in June.

He can get a work permit on the basis of winning the best player at a world Cup. Iheanacho was in a similar position.

Also he has 2 goals and 3 assists. He has also won quite a number of MOTM awards.

I read an article sometime in the past where this guy gave an interview saying he would jump at the opportunity to wear the GWG. Been following him ever since. Good thing he has been improving. He and Onyedinma haven't been capped by England at any level, this is a good time to cap tie him before that move to either of the two London giants materializes

Odinaka Francis Uzoho currently stands at an impressive 1.96m (off my head, that is about 6ft 4.5 inches)

But Alampasu stands at 1.99m (6ft 7inches or so)....

Excellent heights for Goalies. shocked

Ikeme is 1.93m.... Enyeama is 1.82m....

Mehn... all are tall.... but tall pass tall.... grin

I did not read of foreign based players making it to the Amunike U20 Open camp for screening. I think this was the first stage because it was the qualifiers. If we qualified, there would have been room for foreign talents like Ovie and Henry Onyekuru.

OK. I see.

Meaning he was 13 at that tourney.
Alampasu's back up goalies were really very small.

imagine how it would have looked for Uzoho or AbdulAzeez to have mounted the post then per adventure Alampasu was injured.

If fairness is applied in that next U20 selection. That team will go places. Some of those Amuneke's boys are even still eligible.

That NPFL U17 team should be a bedrock.

I would personally recommend Siasia for that U20 job or what do you think?

I pray Solanke to RB Leipzig materialises.... they have some of the finest unknown young talents.... oliver Burke, Werner, Naby Keita, and more.... I have been following them ever since the takeover of the club by Redbull sports...

And you are right about Simy.

We have a Tammy who is 1.90m... but in Simy , we have a super giant.... of about almost 2m (exactly 1.98m)

Such players with speed and heights and technique also can be of great addition of the Super eagles and give us even greater tactical depth.

forgiveness:

RB Leipzig is a very ambitious club. It will become another Chelsea in the German league.

Simy Nwankwo could be good addition to the team. This boy tall pass Peter Crouch. grin

We need such kind of player. grin

It means Uzoho will likely overtake Alampasu since he (Uzoho) is still 18. Alampasu is 20 already.

Samson Siasia will do a wonderful work if it comes to training the boys for the tournament and playing good football. The challenge comes from the coach battling with finances.

If the NFF pays him on time and there is support from multinationals and concerned stakeholders, Siasia can go places with our current crop of talents.

Also with a strict warning of no backhand dealings for players to make the final cut, we can have a brilliant campaign.

With finances in place, Siasia will get my support.

Hopefully our radar falls on him soonest.... smiley

Solomon Viv Otabor and Bright Osayi Samuel are two other fine talents waiting in the wings for Nigeria to just pick up.... and I hope we do.
Both look like very Decent talents... but Fred is indeed a player we can call "another real deal"
