Change Engine Oil From Oando To Any Available Engine Oil. by delaw6(m): 11:01am On Apr 27, 2016 |
Pls I need an advice here. I am using Toyota corolla 2005 . currently I am using oando and its due for service but I can not get it around my area. The question here is, can I change from oando engine oil to either Mobil or total or any that is available in my location? Pls tell me benefits or implication of changing the brand of engine oil in my car. |

I believe what should be considered is the oil spec/ type you have been using before. Example 5w20, 5w30 etc. You could make use of another but with the same oil spec/type. 2 Likes |

It is most likely obvious you are making use of mineral oil which is 20w50..How much did you get your last Oando oil..if within the region of 3k to 4k, then it is the normal mineral oil..It will be better you switch to mobil Xhp which cost around 3,300 naira..That is the best bet for you..Currently drive a 2006 Corolla LE and it is this Mobil Xhp I use and it works just fine.. PS..be sure to change your oil every 3000 miles..All the best 2 Likes 1 Share |

@Op, you are very right I have been to several Oando petrol stations, even called the Customer care they couldn't come up with any reasonable answer. So I intend changing to Mobil, my car specs for the engine oil reads 5w30, 5w40 specifically or any good oil is what's written on the car manual. 1 Like |

meetchandus: Ever wonder why cars once imported into this country and driven for 2 years loses its initial feel of smoothness?apart from our bad roads, our maintenance culture for 98% of us is zero. You are pouring 20w50 in a corolla that specifies 5w 30 and you are happy to say it works fine and advising someone else to follow suit.In due time both of you shall reap the benefits.using 3,300 oil and filter plus service charge every 3 months versus 9,800 oil and filter plus service charge that lasts 9 months plus engine remains pristine,do the math bro=pennywise pound foolish. 9 Likes |

delaw6: Hello Delaw6, Always study your car user manual as it knows more than your mechanic. The recommended engine oil for your car is SAE 5W-30 and make sure it has the API (American Petroleum Institute) seal. This is assuming your Corolla is the American spec. Autojoshng 2 Likes |

fasmen: The preferred one is the oil with the API (American Petroleum Institute) seal which could be the Toyota branded oil or any other original brand. However, you can also use other original brands found in Nigeria without the seal. 1 Share

Hi Fasmen, There are several types of motor engine oils (Mineral oils & Synthetic oils) in the market. Most of these engine oils do not have good anti-wear, extreme pressure additives and also lack additive for good thermal stability; that protects oil thickness (viscosity) from being reduced as the temperature of the engine increases, which causes engine wear. However, the best engine oil in the market now is Royal Purple Synthetic Motor Oils. The available oil grades are 5W20, 5W30, 10W30 and 10W40. Due to the high quality of this product, the oil change interval is 12,000 miles (20,000 km). You can use Royal Purple 5W30. However, as your car is getting older, you may need to change the oil grade to 10W40. For other questions or concerns please respond via this medium. Contact us via 07035407519. Immediate changes that will happen to your car: 1) Lower Temperature (means engine is cooler than before) 2) Reduction in engine sound (means engine works quieter - less friction) 3) Car moves faster (means reduction in wear and less friction) 4) Less fuel consumption (means engine not working forcefully) Please try to use this product. A trial will convince you! Please watch this 9 mins video demonstration via this link below https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8dEFGJqpCMY |
