Most Nigerian (AC)Technicians & Mechanics are Quacks >:( by Readonee35L(m): 12:06am On May 03, 2016 |
The thing is ac issues are fixable in Nigeria . But most won't last. Some mechanics are real clowns and they've ruined lot's of good vehicles, *From changing ac compressor of a 2010 accord to knocking the engine, *Frying the Ecu(brainbox) of a 2013 Maxima by putting the batery terminals in the wrong way *From plug change to smoky engine *Putting diesel in petrol engine *Converting 2008 passat to 5s-fe e.t.c Let's talk about AC Once a car's ac system has been worked on by our technicians i don't even think it will ever function properly again.. Unlike the old Fixed Displacement Compressor, the Variable Displacement Compressor (VDC) automatically varies its pumping capacity to meet air-conditioning demands. When the car’s cabin temperature is high, it increases its refrigeration capacity until the desired temperature is reached. Once the desired temperature is reached it automatically reduces its capacity to maintain the desired temperature. With a VDC(auto compressor) there is no jerking of the engine brought about by the switching on and off of the compressor clutch as in FDC(manual compressor). In fact, some VDCs have no clutch at all. This results to a very smooth operation and improvement in fuel consumption. Most recent cars come with climate control system but once they get faulty our techies can't seem to diagnose it and fix it properly , i don't know if they are scared of it, Their only solution is to recommend the manual compressor. Recent Cars in Nigeria have been kazeemized and they have manual compressor installed. Most of the technicians overcharge or undercharge the system or even use wrong refrigerant in charging it. Effects of Changing to a manual compressor: *More load on your engine *High fuel consumption *Rough idling *Increased rate on engine wear. My 2003 pilot has been to so many ac technicians since 2014 till date but between 3months the ac is back to the same issue, It won't get cold in hot weather, i now start to feel the car is cursed, Changed Compressor's condensers e.t.c. A techie worked on it recently let's see how it goes I don't really drive the car much anymore. Venza also takes like 20-30 seconds to start blowing cool air in the hot weather, but it cools well it just takes time, tho the ac system was recently checked and it's working perfectly now and am looking at how it goes , I've seen lot's of Benz with Peugeot compressor lol Honda,KIA,Toyota e.t.c using all sorts of compressor and they end up rough idling and shaking like a grinding machine.lol Many people buy car's with money but they don't even care to understand how it works, Thinking the mechanic will do all the work, don't be surprised if you know more than the mechanic. OK now, do we av a pro in this ac fixing. Had similar experience on my last mercury villager 1993 model. Spent close to 100k fixing the ac. It got a stage, the ladipo guys upon sighting me, would run away and I was giving discount at the park. Now I av another 1999 model of the same car, is there anyone here good enough to handle it for me. The whole system is OK working but compressor got hooked. If you can kindly quote me 3 Likes 1 Share |

I'll personally marry the grandmother of that technician that will be able to fix the ac of all three cars, QX4 02' MDX 04' and VW Passat 99' It's as if the cars are cursed since they lay their hands on them. The annoying part is they will always tell you the other guy wasted your money and like a child in a babalawo's house you'll believe you've arrived solution ground. Enugu is my location. They blow hot air. Though I've refilled and changed pressure hose to the condenser and the compressor. The rear vent on the acura blows hotter. It's either the dryer is leaking or this or that. After repair I'll have one week to enjoy the money spent then straight to the Sahara 8 Likes |

OP, u r ryt on this. it is very difficult for our AC kazeems to repair ur Ac and still retain same compressor. the latest invention is installing Peugeot 507 abi 508 on many cars. claiming it is d best. 2 years ago one kazeem constructed a button like a missile launcher for me to use it to power my Ac. I didn't waste time in tearing it out. wahala dey o. 16 Likes 1 Share |

pacino26:The pressure hose, is it the metal pipe that goes from the compressor to the condenser? If after filling the system with freon, and it works only a week, then there is a leakage some where, and its large, because the system supposed to be loosing not more than one gram a year, so if it looses more than 400 to 700g a week, then it is leaking somewhere. Does the kazeem have a vacuum pump? I really doubt it, look for somebody that has a vacuum pump and is not afraid to connect the red quick connect of the gauge to the high pressure side also, because it shows that he knows what he is doing. 1 Like 1 Share |

It worked for a coupla days then it started blowing hot air! I ve changed the compressor twice, filled the gas four times all in this year alone.... Now the mechanic says it electrical issue. xavier0327:once you filled it with gas, you got cold air for some days before it went hot, okay. There is a leakage somewhere in the ac circuit, the gas goes out from that hole, Okay, buy a UV torch ( the type used to detect counterfeit money), buy a small bottle of UV dye and pour it into the compressor, just as you do to add oil, then fill it again with, the gas and drive the car till it blows hot again, then park the car in a dark place or at night, use the UV light on the entire circuit, any where you see a bright greenish glow when you shine the UV light is the source of the leakage. what this video please https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pCv7rCdcXsc&itct=CC0QpDAYACITCLPz7OONvswCFciGHAodtx8NBlIjY2hyaXNmaXggaG93IHRvIGZpbmQgdGhlIGFjIGxlYWthZ2U%3D&gl=US&hl=en&client=mv-google Also, refrigerant cans (r134a ) with UV dye or tracer are available, just look for it, maybe they sell it in your locality. 2 Likes 1 Share |

It is possible to fix car ac system and have it work same way it left the assembly plant but will cost more in terms of finance and man hour. But most times the technician want the easy way out so that he will have less issues to deal with in the event that the car comes back for the same issue. The owner too may want to spend less so long as the car cools. So to avoid long grammar, i offer the two options and let the owner decide but will explain the side effect(s) of any conversion done. But whatever the option, if done well it will serve the owner provided he is willing to buy quality parts. |

mejai: Now this really cracked me up. I haven't laughed this hard in a while. I almost choked! @topic this was why I got my own tools and recharged my system myself. It's been factory cooling all the way. The truth is that most technicians under charge your system and in most cases moisture and air is not removed via vacuum. In my experience pulling a vacuum and filling people's cars, it does take some considerable amount of time to get a system properly charged with the exact amount of gas listed on the AC sticker (charging as gas). |

I nearly gave up on mine car ac before a good samaritan took me to an ac technician who charged me 40k to fix it. He bought evaporator, compressor and condenser. He losed my dashboard to locate my evaporator I must confess this is 4months now and my ac works like bran new car. |

@OP,Readonee35L, Thanks for this thread which is long over due. Quite frankly I do not believe we have air conditioner technicians for cars in this country. Most of these technician's rely on trial by error methods. Right now I have two cars and the air conditioners have been savaged by so called air conditioner technicians. They have replaced condensers, evaporators, dryers, radiators etc to no avail. They air conditioners will work for maybe a month or two and then pack up. Just so frustrating. |

This is discouraging to hear. Ac systems on most japanese cars tennd to be resilient and trouble free. However on european cars they can be a headache when things go wrong. I would advice u to consult ur owners manual or car forums online before jumping to anaija tech. Even dealerships in naija don't have competent hands , they just hire kazeems and give dem uniforms to decieve customers. 2 Likes |
