My Hond AC had an issue too. I took the car to the usual illiterate Kazeem. Lo and behold, no solution.
Eventually a friend told me to visit Gazuss.

He's popular here in the car section. To cut the long story short, gazuss fixed it and I've been using it now without stress

The thing is you buy a car of 1 million for instance you take it to the same baba a to who has been working in your previous old model cars and has not upgraded his skills, so all in the name of not spending much the brain box or something else is damaged who us to blame

The car is 2006 Skoda Octavia (same as volks golf mk4 I think).
last year, the compressor was replaced with the popular Peugeot compressor when someone misdiagnosed the existing compressor (this compressor doesn't have a clutch magnet so when he couldn't get it to magnet, he concluded it was bad).
I didn't like the wires snaking under my hood after the conversion so I bought a fairly used OEM compressor and fitted on the car with a new condenser as well.
all was well for six months plus, then the performance deteriorated three weeks ago.
it now takes a while for the AC to pick up and the fan speed must be set to 3 or it won't blow cold air.
on cold mornings, it starts blowing cold air though even with the fan speed on 2.
this weekend though, it has totally stopped blowing cold air.
I checked the condenser this night and the left side feels a bit hot when touched but the rest of the condenser is cool. the compressor is working cos I can feel it cycle on and off from the engine rpm.
the fans (cooling and AC fans come on and go off in unison as they normally should when the AC is working).
it was checked for gas two weeks ago and the technician said the gas was okay though he didn't hook up the gauges.
when the AC was working fine, I used to hear a hissing sound around the dashboard and as soon I hear that sound, I start getting cold air. I don't hear that sound anymore.
can any guru here help me guide my AC tech in the right direction?

Specialist900:
does this mean the AC gas when filled last more than 10yrs before refill?
I think it can last 100 years as long as there is no leak or damage to any components of the AC system grin

the ac kini is a closed system. the refrigerant is meant to circulate, it actually does not finish.

@OP,Readonee35L,
Thanks for this thread which is long over due. Quite frankly I do not believe we have air conditioner technicians for cars in this country. Most of these technician's rely on trial by error methods. Right now I have two cars and the air conditioners have been savaged by so called air conditioner technicians.
They have replaced condensers, evaporators, dryers, radiators etc to no avail. They air conditioners will work for maybe a month or two and then pack up.
Just so frustrating.
Trust me there are the good guys. For every single problem with any car, there is the solution here in Nigeria (as long as you dont have to change d radiators of a bugatti to double cell grin) , just be prepared to spend good money, coz quality doesnt come cheap.

This is discouraging to hear. Ac systems on most japanese cars tennd to be resilient and trouble free.

However on european cars they can be a headache when things go wrong.

I would advice u to consult ur owners manual or car forums online before jumping to anaija tech.

Even dealerships in naija don't have competent hands , they just hire kazeems and give dem uniforms to decieve customers.
Actually, the best AC systems are on Korean cars (speaking from personal experience)

this is nothing new, its standard practise, from honda place to coscharis motors et al

I would sincerely appreciate it if you could hook me up with one.
It is not spending money that is the problem, the problem is after spending the money and you feel that the technician has done a wishy washy job and to top it up shows no remorse.

Re: Most Nigerian (AC)Technicians & Mechanics are Quacks >:( by 9icetoo(m): 9:49pm On Jun 12, 2016
the AC issue has been fixed. I had a bad pressure regulating valve (the 'sensor' with positive and negative wires going into it) on the AC a tiny pin hole leak on the AC discharge line.
for peeps whose cars (toyota and volkswagen) use the variable displacement compressor (sanden compressor), you might want to look at servicing or replacing this valve.
also make sure u refill the gas correctly. if you overfill the gas even slightly, this valve will shut off the circulation and increase the pressure on the low side to above 60 psi. and at this pressure, nothing works. make sure you refill with the correct quantity of gas. hook up a gauge to the low pressure side and make sure its between 25 and 35 psi with the compressor running. anything higher or lower isn't good.
YouTube was quite helpful for my fix

They blow hot air. Though I've refilled and changed pressure hose to the condenser and the compressor. The rear vent on the acura blows hotter. It's either the dryer is leaking or this or that. After repair I'll have one week to enjoy the money spent then straight to the Sahara

If after repairs you enjoy it for a week, and it started blowing hot air again, that means there is leakage.

Leaks are an AC system's worst friend, leaks are the result of damage or the presence of moisture. When moisture and refrigerate mix, nasty corrosive acids will eat away the seals and the components, causing a leak.

Before recharging the system, let the AC technicain carryout a leak test.

How did the AC technicain check for gas without the use of manifold gauge?

Can you identify the low pressure line, it is cold and sweating (the liquid line)?

If the low pressure line is cold and sweating and you are not getting cold air, let the AC technicain check the evaporator filter under the Dashboard.

The hissing sound you normally heard under the dashboard is from the expansion valve. The expansion valve distributes the proper amount of refrigerant to the evaporator. If the expansion valve is blocked, the refrigerant can't flow into the evaporator. The expansion valve should also be check for blockage.

Most ac technicians will tell u ac repair is mostly luck, once it has been touched outside factory it can never be the same, very few are lucky that they change parts and it last up to a year without issue, i have an old honda civic 2000 with very good ac, even freezing my windshield in the mornings or evening, blowing cold like a deep freezer, i askd my ac technicial to explain why my ac is cooler than my frnds honda 2009, he simply couldnt say anything,
