Dear Seun,

I believe that anybody that engage in Forex or game betting is up to the age of accountability and can be able to take a good decision for his or herself.

Kindly note that Forex and game betting are legitimate business as such banning it on your forum will not be a wise idea.

My 2 cents.
Well said.

Is this a joke or something? Sports betting has come to stay in Nigeria and the world at large! Banning it doesnt make much sense to me.

Oga Seun, what's really going on?

Saying people don't make money in the financial market is false, FX, binary, etc
Create a section for FX and the likes remove it from business section. All biz has their upandan
I have never protection FX on this platform i might have coment on,
Any one going it is at his own risk but for you as a biz man it shouldn't be more of your biz as this people are adult.
The TV still make advert for cigarettes though they will add to it liable to die young, why not do something similar
If you doubt any one makes money from FX fund your binary account with just $30 and i will turn it into $100 in less than 2 days at no cost(I DONT TRADE FOR PEOPLE)

I think the religious and the sexual should be giving more attention

Forex,Spread betting, Stocks , Indicies & Futures are all legit. I am a professional Trader and i dont have any other job i do.
The challenges faced by Nigerians lossing money on forex is inadequate training.
Every profession requires time to master. I cant just want to be an Engineer in Mechnics under 6 months, it dosnt make sense.
Nigerians rush in and rush out. To be a master @ anything you want to do , look for a Pro to mentor you and pay the price.

Also Betting is Legal in most countries but i dont know of Naija. its just like Cigarettes , Brothels . All these things are to be done responsibly.
if you want to Bet, then go on but stop when the fun stops .

I'm surprised at the level of censorship on Nairaland.
Both forex and Nairaland are legal businesses in Nigeria.
So if you were to be made President of USA for a day, you'll ban all the casinos in Las Vegas because people lose money there?
Wow ..

Well,here is my advice...

Instead of banning them, create separate section for them, and make it accessible to only those who are registered on Nairaland and above the age of18/21 depending on what u consider legal age to be matured enough to participate, and put a clear disclaimer that you do not advice pple participating in said activities.

But trying to limit or control how pple spend their time and money negates everything freedom of speech and expression stands for, and Nairaland should not be known for that.

America spent millions of dollars fighting drugs like weed, yet now some States now are legalizing same weed...if you decide to censor betting and forex, you'll only succeed in driving pple to look for it elsewhere... #ThinkAboutIt

Oga Seun, a betting company gave out 1M to the winner of the nairaland sports betting competition last year.

We (Surebet247) are giving out a brand new Hyundai Accent to the winner of our Sure6 competiton in two weeks time! Mind, the competiton is FREE 100%.

A betting company is the sponsor of the on-going Miss Nairaland competition.

I believe everyone that has an account on NL is old enough to know the risk involved. Let them go with the flow or back off on their own terms.

Sports betting isn't evil! Addicts made it seem so!

Dear Nairalanders,

We are thinking of completely banning the promotion of forex trading and sports betting on Nairaland.

Forex day-trading and sports betting are fundamentally fraudulent because they're promoted as a quick way of making money whereas due to mathematical facts, the only people who make money are the middlemen and marketers. The "investors" almost always lose their money.

In our experience, it's not enough to warn Nairaland members about the dangers of forex day-trading and sports betting. The promise of quick profit is just too strong for thousands of vulnerable Nairaland members to resist. The only way to protect them is complete censorship.

We believe that the complete ban of such content will make Nairaland a better platform for discussing legitimate entrepreneurship and finance.

What do you think? Please click 'like' if you like the idea; thanks.

I personally don't bet financially on anything or do lottery, but you have no right to dictate what type of business anyone should do. You can warn Nairaland forum members by pinning a threat about the warning, not by banning!

Nairaland is becoming more and more restrictive. It supposed to be a forum where people are free to make their thoughts public without pervasive restrictions! You can't tell anyone off on this Nairaland forum without being banned. What is wrong with freedom of speech on Nairaland? It's pathetic!

I have traded forex in the past. I made money and lost a lot too.

It's legitimate though highly risky.

Even though I wouldn't encourage anyone to consider forex as an investment, don't force your opinion on others please.

modified I would like seun to ban sports betting. But it's would be unfair to punters.

I suggest you create a section for it with a warning that whoever engages in such does so at his or her own risk.
Thanks

Perhaps, they could make it be like sexuality section. You must login to view the content.

I came across a broker that created a naira based mt4 platform to allow Nigerians trade in Naira so as to avoid the very erratic nature of dollar/naira exchange rate. I brought this good news to the attention of nairalanders who might be interested but my post was yanked off. I asked interested people to click this link but to my dismay, I could'nt find my legitimate post again!

https://my.hiwayfx.com/partner/links/go/1840

On reading this thread, I now know the reason why.

But if I may ask, would Mr. Seun reject a N50 million advert placement contract from an international fx broker like hiwayfx to be featured on nairaland? or If bet9ja decides to make Make him a brand ambassador with an endorsement deal worth N80 million, would he reject it ? morality should be a personal thing but business should be business Mr. Seun.

Ridiculous offers by charlatan should be frowned at but not endeavours that are global institutions on their own. Even Milton Keynes, the renowed British economist did clasify speculations as a legitimate means of making money. We cant be more English than the queen?

My advise to Mr. Seun, you can create another website that will be dedicated to all speculative activites eg forex, sport betting, baba and mama Ijebu games etc
Your business model is such that it thrives on audience and I guess you dont want to lose out on your market share.

Na wa oooo, why don't you just rename nairaland as a monastery. Sports betting is just like the lotto and national lottery that we have had in the past. I see no reason why NL should ban it.
There is a reason why it's tagged [18+], it's for those who can take responsibility for their actions.
Why don't you just altogether ban explicit threads on Romanceland and nonsense celebrity gossips since that also ruins personalities and homes.
Next thing we'll hear is Seun has banned discussion on "fulani cattle rearers as terrorists ". we know where you're going, speed up! Yeye dey smell

God bless you sir. u spoke my mind.

@ seun pls I beg u with the name of God desist from taking such action. reasons are
1. Your traffick would drastically reduce

2. Nobody is being forced to bet

3. 99% of Nairalanders here are adults

4. sport betting is a risk just like any other venture, (so why stop a man bent on taking risk?)

5. Sport betting ain't illegal anywhere in the world

6. If u say u are concerned by the financial losses, can u like nairalanders more than themselves?

7. You would be viewed as autocratic

8. lastly in this dwindling enonomy, sport betting is the only succour for the masses.

I thaught Seun has gone beyond this sage of autocratic tendencies.

In the real world we have scams and deadly products but the relevantt authorities only warn people to be wise.

In like manner i would advice ha you do same...WARN rather than ban.

The reasonable question to ask is simple,is fx trading legal? is sport betting a legitimate way of making money? if Yes then banning it will make nairaland look like a joke so just warn people as brokers do and let go of this endless unwarranted and unfounded bias.

Everything and anything can be used to scam people but people mus be wise.

Im a fx trader, trainer and signal provider and if you doubt me i can scan countless western union reciepts of wha i make as a trainer and signal provider.

The problem is not the business but the approach of the investors...shall we say buying shares is a scam despite the huge loss experienced by invesors some years back?

Many fx traders on nland have called me and i tell them bluntly that they can make 10 to 20% profit monthly and they tell me its too small....please what can we make out of this?

it is not enough to make a decision on who clicked like or share but for you to use your IQ to decipher if you want o make nland a liberal one or an autocratic one...

The choice is yours.

Mr Seun sometimes surprises me, he is a free thinker and a liberal man, but acts uptight at times.....

U obviously don't like forex or betting, but you should be tolerant nd accommodating to those who engage in it...
Don't shove ur dislikes to other people....
