PDP National Chairman, Sheriff, Set To Resign This week by Nobody: 11:59am On May 10, 2016
THE National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party and ex-Borno governor, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, is to resign as Chairman of the party latest by Friday so as to pave the way for him to contest for the position of National Chairman in the coming National Convention slated for May 21.

A source within the inner circle of the PDP Chairman said that Senator Sheriff had already confided in his close political associates and confidante last week about his plans to quit to enable him contest the position of the National Chairman, which will span for the next four years.

Already, Sheriff, according to our source, had reached out to governors under the PDP and delegates of almost two-thirds of the 36 states as at yesterday (Monday) and had deployed billions of naira to execute his mission.

The source, would not, however, exactly say how much the billionaire ex- Borno governor had earmarked to buy up the delegates.

Recall that the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has ratified the proposal to hold the party’s national convention in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

The convention will take place on May 21 when the tenure of the National Chairman, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, would have come to an end with the election of a new members of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC).

Already political pundits are of the opinion that the decision made by the party’s zoning committee headed by Akwa Ibom State Governor Udom Emmanuel to zone the National Chairman of the PDP to the Northeast was a calculated attempt to pave the way for the incumbent National Chairman, Ali Modu Sheriff, to retain the position.

After his disgrace from Borno politics in 2011 when he failed to return to the Senate following massive protest votes by the electorate and his subsequent humiliation in 2015, when he could only deliver 7% of Borno votes to Goodluck Jonathan as against APC’s 93% to Mohammadu Buhari, Sheriff, will again be testing his popularity at the party’s national convention billed to hold in Port Harcourt on May 21.

Meanwhile, the PDP will be holding another NEC meeting on Wednesday May 11, to ratify amendments to its constitution.
