okikiosibodu: Standard RT calls follow the same format. Who you are talking to Who you are/what you are if you are calling for the first time Where you are What your intentions/requests are. And no over. You were almost correct but missed the first one. It would be just 'runway 22' not 022. I'm sure when you entered the airspace they would have told you to"reduce airspeed" |

Re: Ask A Pilot... by bolajiboi(m): 9:23pm On Jul 10, 2017 |
Faseyi17: if u are in Lagos try aeroconsult. currently the only airline that employ often are airpeace and medview airline. Note: going for training doesn't guarantee u automatic job. u need to search for job and apply and most importantly pray for God favour. |

Back!..... when flying in ehmmm....cloudy conditions..... like huge mountains of thick clouds.... is the plane affected in terms of speed or maintaining altitude when moving from cloud to clear to cloud? |

Let's keep the thread airborne..... Don't let it stall. Let me bell the cat. Why is nitrogen induced into the tires of an airplane.... What is it's significance? |
Re: Ask A Pilot... by prof1999(m): 11:39pm On Aug 24, 2017 |
okikiosibodu:hahaha *Nitrogen is used cos. It is an inert gas so high pressures and temperatures do not affect it as with air. It is also more compatible with rubber, and does not corrode like air containing oxygen and water vapor does. More importantly it will not support combustion or explosion as does air containing oxygen. 5 Likes |

prof1999:You nailed it. It helps to Cushing the effect of of the hot temperature of the runway on the wheels of the airplane when heated by the sun... |

airplane distribute
it's weight on the

Re: Ask A Pilot... by okikiosibodu(m): 4:19pm On Aug 29, 2017 |
prof1999:Let me try.... There are basically 3 types of landing gears: Tricycle landing gear (like keke-napep formation) taildragger (or conventional) Landing gear, and then Tandem Landing gear. Tandem Landing Gear is common in large aircrafts, and this helps to accommodate weight.... Both relative and absolute weight. Though forward movement is generated by the propellers which is powered by the engine, the movement on land is assisted by the wheels. So during take offs and landings, the rear wheels have increased weights temporarily... And to provide more support for this, hence more wheels behind (like we see in trucks). Some of it also bear the weight of the wings, bear the weight at the rear if the fuselage, and also some to bear the frontal weight of the fuselage. Some have about 28- 32 wheels You can check out Hercules aircraft (a cargo military aircraft) or Antonov aircraft. As to how weight is distributed in an aircraft, I think the people in the airline find way of sharing the weight evenly in the aircraft(of goods and passengers) after considering the total weight the airplane can bear excluding it's weight and that of fuel)... Aviationists in the house should help with more suitable answers pls |

Re: Ask A Pilot... by prof1999(m): 9:16pm On Aug 30, 2017 |
In a forward tricycle configuration
(small nose gear, large main
gear), most of the weight is
actually on the main gear (the
middle set of wheels). The front
gear carries some weight, of course, and contributes some
braking effort and steering. The balancing act is done in the
airlines by the Dispatcher. The dispatcher wants to put most
of the weight of the aircraft (the
centre of gravity) close to where
the wings produce most lift ( If you do that, you can minimise
the control inputs and trim
required by the pilots, making the
aircraft more predictable (and
pleasant!) to fly. CG too far back
and the nose will want to pitch up; CG too far forward and it'll
want to pitch down. 1 Like |
