Missy89: You do know just last few weeks there was a london anti corruption event attended by UK PM and many big players. Via international treaty the US is obliged to obey these court orders of the parties do not contest it within a number of days. Omokrie is in EFCC detention while Aluko in on the run. Athlantic Energy only exists on paper without a history of business before the acquisition and lifting contracts and there is proof behind doubt that illegal dealings occurred. It wouldn't take long for any judge in UK , LA or Switzerland to freeze such assets. The only unknown is how long it would take for Nigeria to repatriate such funds . |

greenpasture: Not just that he sold it but the manner in which he did. He made a 2 million loss on a home in a hot property location because he could not wait 2 weeks for a counter offer and the transaction was processed through a company registered in a tax haven so it can not be easily traced. Who does that, this was coming and he knew it. I'm sure his lawyers are setting up to get paid rather well knowing it is a lost case. I should have studied international business law in uni |

kcnwaigbo: Jeez are you this slow. This is in effects warrant that allows the EFCC tonaeize assets in Nigeria and begin a legal process to have assets outside Nigeria frozen. A case would be submitted to the court with jurisdiction where the assets are who would invite the parties to evaluate the request, I don't expect Athlantic Energy to be successful in contesting the case that is if their lawyer shows up. Aluko is on the run and if he steps a foot out of Swiss where he is reported to be holed up , Nigeria would request for Interpol arrest and repatriation. It is just the way international laws work. This is a loss-loss situation for Aluko . They were not discrete in their actions guess they never envisioned PDP would ever lose the election 1 Like |

kcnwaigbo: Wow how slow. You do not need to be convicted in an American court to have assets frozen abroad. Abacha is yet to be convicted of crime. All EFCC has to do is furnish a court with jurisdiction doyments to prove the prperties were acquired with questionable funds. That is obviously not a difficult task given how lousy these guys are, remember Deziani who is very much connected to this case is being investigated in UK. The presiding judge would delibrate over the case and give a judgement which I espet to go in Nigeria favour, parties can contest and appeal the judgement but during that time the said accounts can not be accessed, the assets can not be used a guarantees for loans and all loans affixed to said property would be frozen. It is a laid out process some everyday in many countries. Cross border crimes are very because it involves movement of money across banks which can be traced |

cktheluckyman: It is not about asking but proving. The EFCC have been given authority to place a request to a court with jurisdictions in USA who then examine the case. It is nothing new. However nigerian assets and those which enter Nigerian border from now eg planes or ships woukd be seized without delay. |

cktheluckyman: All you have done is to substantiate his argument . The fact remains the process of injunction has begun and I don't realisticalkybsee how Nigeria FG would not be granted the request given the mountain of evidence. Rememeber we are in global anti corruption lock down |

xwolverine: That is actually very different from what is being discussed. The FBI is probably the more relevant agency in this case. The agency can gather information about foreign corruption in in several countries but not the US. besides, they cant enforce anything. |

Missy89: It's the same ma'am. Although it might involve inter agency collaboration, but the initial stages of investigation would be carried out by the CIA because of the involvement of a foreign country which is the origin of the stolen funds. As far as the feds are concerned he's just a business man. They can only investigate him if he's involved with illicit dealings within the US, but prior to this, they need Intel or tip-off from the CIA. After which they would take over. |
